Modern cushion question

I'm looking at a yellow diamond I found online I bought it. It seems very sparkly in that crushed ice kind of way, that in okay with, my question is do most all cushions have a glassy spot when tilted sideways. We went and looked at Tiffany's and it seemed like their very expensive cushions had windows. Is that something that most modern cushions have?

Yellow diamonds are usually not cut for sparkle as the top priority but for colour retention, hence they won't be perfectly cut. There are exceptions though. In general, as long as the tilt window is minimal, I'm all for it. When it comes to white diamonds though, I always go for the best cut possible, so a glassy spot when tilted sideways is generally unappealing. Tiffany carries both well cut and not so well cut diamonds. The brand name does not guarantee high performance diamonds.

Very good and interesting question!
In my opinion, there is no such thing as a "perfectly cut" diamond. Any cushion diamond, colorless or fancy colored, will have some "windowing" when tilted.
There's definitely better and worse cuts- and how easy it is to induce this window is part of what makes some cuts more attractive than others.
Sometimes, a stone has this sort of effect with no tilt at all- and many people would find this distracting, and not consider such a stone well cut.
On Fancy Colored Cushions that I consider well cut, it takes quite a bit of tilt to get the window to appear.
It's possible that sparkle and color retention can work together very well.
Although many people on Pricescope have expressed the same sentiment that Chrono has, I also find that nicer fancy colored cushions are indeed cut with sparkle in mind.

If you love the color, and overall sparkle, you've probably got a winner!

What are your thoughts on this stone? It's a y-z. 2.51. vvs1.

HI Bigdog,
There's no way for anyone to properly assess a diamond based on a GIA report.
High quality photos ( all due respect, but your photos don;t fall into this category  ) can give some info- but even then it's still necessary for an expert to evaluate a diamond in person.

I will say that the setting makes a huge difference on stones of this color

Oh I agree! These are my pics off my iPhone ha. When you look at tbese does it look to windowy? It will be set with a cup behind it.y local jewler, give he is trying to sell me a diamond as well, said it is a little
Sleepy but he's not afraid of the windows bc the gold cup will take care of that.

I feel color wise it's quite yellow and is bordering a fly the windows are reallyy only concern but the diamond was priced so well I don't know what I could get that work compare even if I spend a couple thousand more.

Hi Bigdog,
As a tradesperson, and seller of diamonds it would not be proper for me to make any comments on a particular stone.

I can say that, in general, I do not find that a cup improves a diamond- and closing off the bottom of a diamond makes cleaning impssible.
A lot of setters do it though.

We were not doing a full cup in that sence just around the sides and allowing light to come thru the bottom. The windows are only seen when the diamond is tilted. Do you find that is common in cushions. Does this stone seem decent? Since you are in the trade I won't tell you exactly what I paid but it's less then10k, like I said I don't mind spending more. The price intrigued me enough to buy it to see it basiclly. Do you think for under let's say 13k I could find a similar size without the windows or do you think most of the cushions you see have similar windows like you can see in the picks I posted
