Mixing Natural Diamond with Lab Sapphire?

Would it be weird to mix the two? I have several diamonds I want to work into a ring and while I would love a real sapphire, a truly good quality one would be like buying another diamond. The lab grown ones, that are actually grown, look really good. They are actually real since there molecular obstruction is the same. They take something like 9 months to grow.

Would it be total blasphemy to mix? Of course I could do whatever I want, but what do you think about mixing? Would you do it? Would you ever buy a ring like that? Would it put a bad spin on a final appraisal assuming the adjustment for the sapphire?

People drop diamond simulants into good gold or platinum mountings all the time, so why not a synthetic sapphire? People buy used rings and change the center stone, to. You just don't see a lot of that on PS, since most people are buying diamond e-rings.

Thanks, you just reminded me of something the other day a jeweler was telling me. Something to the effect of a woman really wanted a elaborate setting and opted for the platinum setting and a Moissanite stone. Her rational was that she will replace the stone some day with a real one but for now she wanted the setting more then the stone.

It's just that I am a bit of a purist when it comes to design. I am cool with what other people want to do, it dose not bother me, but for myself, I seem to be struggling with the concept. Usually if the stone if fake the ring is cheap. Hard to get that out of my head.

It's this conversation I can see happening over and over. "oh is that ring real?" "yes but the blue stones are man made". Or else for ease of conversation I just say "yes", but then I white lied and doing that every time someone ask about the ring will start to feel like I am just trying to be pretentious.

I have no problem with it. A few of my last settings for my diamonds have been sterling silver just because gold is
so high right now. I just dont try to pass it off as gold. I tell anyone who ask about the ring/pendant that they are SS.
My conscious is clear and I really love both the pieces.

edit - I should have said that I tell anyone that I am close to (friends and family) that it is SS. Otherwise I just accept the
compliment. If they ask if its white gold or we start talking more indepth about the piece then I disclose it.

I am a bit of a purist and would not purchase a man-made (synthetic), simulant or highly treated stone, more so for an e-ring. Will she mind that? To me, settings come and go but not gemstones, especially coloured stones. They tend to be one of a kind, for the most part, and cannot be made to order. It is far easier to replace the setting than to replace a gemstone in an existing setting. Come hop over to the Coloured Stone side and there are plenty of posters who are able to help you find the right sapphire(s) for your ring.

It's very common as small, high-quality simulants and lab diamonds are not cost effective--they are more expensive than small natural diamonds. Your situation is a bit different of course, but keep in mind that you are probably going to need some sort of custom setting to get the ring to work.
