#JOTW Meet Marilyn Monroe-My Mesmerizing 7.6 ct Old European Cut

Well, I appreciate the second comment @Dmndsr4evr11 . And, I've slowed by roll (as the kids say)

Wow! Thanks for sharing @nala ! Holy moly, is that you next to Forever Marilyn-she's huge!

Of course @Begonia! Let's meet at NY Jaws :lol-2:

Seriously, it would be an honor to try on that bad girl!!

Yes? That’s me! She is 26 ft I think!

Just a couple of new pics of MM. No reset yet, but I did pick up a new OEC band.

It’s amazing

Ooh I’d forgotten about this stunner! Yes please do let us know if you change her setting. Would love to see.

No updates yet. I'm still playing around with reset ideas. In the meanwhile, I have gone a bit band crazy

I was in SoCal so I snuck off to GIA in Carlsbad to get MM certed. I've been wanting to do this for a while but was too nervous to ship her.

As you may recall, MM was graded M SI1 by HRD Antwerp (up until recently, GIA international locations did not grade diamonds over 3.99 ct).

To date, all of the dual certed stones that I have seen have varied by two color grades so I always assumed that MM was a GIA OP color.

She came back as an N color!

The diamond nerd in me is thrilled-though she did come back .01 carats lighter

One of my most favorite stones… Marilyn could have been a Q and I would love her the same, but an N?!? YAY!!! So happy for you and Mrs M!

Curious, did you have her inscribed? Flora isn’t, and I wonder if I might if I ever redress her…

I did not because I could definitely spot her in a line up

Haha yay!! The Queen B is back. I was oh no you might have to ask the mods to change the title but luckily you only put 7.6ct which is still accurate lol.

I am so happy that you finally got to do this cause I know how much it's been on your mind. And a N in that size is so impressive. Lol she's so pretty loose I don't want to set her back but I would be anxious carrying her around loose lol.

Thanks! I was a bit nerve wracking and the cost to reset her in Carlsbad was too high!

Luckily, I am very unassuming-so no one suspected a thing

Thanks for sharing! You're in my backyard! Isn't it fun to take a stone to GIA in person? I hope I get to do it again one day. :mrgreen2:

Did GIA call her OEC or circular brilliant?

Gorgeous area! She's a CB due to her medium size culet. If I had the facet enlarged then she'd get the OEC designation. But I'm too scared to mess with the faceting...

Noooo don't touch her! She's perfect.

Are you still thinking about resetting? That setting is so unique and suits her perfectly. Then again, she would look gorgeous in anything.

Oh I love that story!! What a fun thing to do on your trip!

Is there any chance of a loose side shot? Perhaps I've missed it...

That's another diamond that has a story behind her.

"I was mined in the bedrock of South Africa from a prism greater than twice my cut size. I was sent to Antwerp to a 7th generation cutter who studied me for several days before attempting the first cleave. I was destined for the crown of... "
