I am in the market for a ring and I made an impulsive buy from bluenile the other night. My budget was about 4,000 CAD and I was looking to stay around .8+ CT, VS2/SI1, I, a decent HCA score + big/bigger appearance. My main concern is that this diamond is SI1 with twinning wisps type inclusion. Can you give me any input?

I am wondering if I would do better cancelling the order, buying a loose diamond in Toronto (USA Certed) and having it set locally. Any advice is appreciated

I would cancel the order. The stone has a bigger table than depth, which is a red flag. Plus there's no pics or video of the stone so you're buying blind. I would go with USA certified.

To be fair, the stats are good for a 60/60 style stone if that's what you want. But I would never advocatw buying blind unless it's from a highly trusted super ideal vendor.

Hi Lovedogs, thanks for the heads up about the table vs depth. I'm new to this whole diamond game and am eager to learn. I have no problem cancelling my order but I will need to replace it with something equivalent or better. I am looking for a good value stone that passes the eye clean test and to maximize carat/dimensions within a fixed budget.

- I realize a 54% table is preferred but are 60/60 that bad? Honest question, I don't actually know.
- What other stones in this price range (2600 USD) would you recommend?
- I was under the impression that I have 30 days to return the diamond to Blue Nile so I could check risk free if it is eye clean
- any diamond CCCC parameters I should be changing for my search? opinions on fluorescent?

I certainly don't think 60/60 style is bad by any stretch, it's just not traditional "ideal", so worth you knowing upfront. I think if you want eye clean, you 100% need a picture or video. The one you got there's neither, so you have no idea whether it will be clean or not. Here are the parameters we recommend:

Table: 54-57 or 58
Depth: 60-62.4
Crown: 34-35
Pavillion: 40.6-40.8

I have about 5-6 weeks to back out on this deal so I have time to shop around. James Allen seemed pricier but I do like their 3d images. I am currently trying to get in touch with Martin from USA Certed for some more options. Any other recommended retailers near GTA?

If you are from the Toronto area your best bet is dealing with Martin from USA Certed Diamonds since he is also from the GTA.
He is great at finding you something amazing within your budget. And he also has contacts he can refer you to for a setting.

Jalla031, this may help you re cut. If you want an ideal cut, try to stay away from anything right on the line between ideal and excellent because of GIA rounding.

Of course, the advice you receive here is fabulous.....just use the screener as a tool in your arsenal.

Kitchener, about an hour away

None of the new ones have pics either, except the adiamor one, but it's at a weird angle so I can't tell much. All seem to score EX on the HCA, and have angles within preferred ranges. IMHO vvs clarity is overkill and you'll pay for something you can't see. But I trust USA certed can get you pics of ones you like

Stay within the measurements lovedogs gave you above, and you'll be in a much safer place.
