Hello I'd like around 2.5 caret round and will spend about $20,000, maybe could go up to $25,000 if needed I think. How do you suggest balancing cut color etc to stay in that price range in that size. For example how low of a clarity grade can you go with that size before noticing it, how low should you go color etc Thanks!!!

Many people here have I color and are totally happy with it. I am sure you know we stress cut above all else. Great cut will make the stone appear brighter face up. Many people can begin to see tint at J color, but that is a personal preference thing. I don't like to go under VS2 in clarity, but it is possible to get an eyeclean SI1 if you really look. I think to get to 2.5 cts, you won't be looking at VS. I'll see if I see anything good.

My 4.6 ct diamond is an eye clean Si1 but it’s harder to find that so going VS2 is more likely going to get you want you want.

Well, not having great luck. Here's one that you may or may not like as far as clarity goes. You'd have to ask if the stone is eyeclean. You could use a jeweler such as Yekutiel at ID Jewelry who can access most of these stones and sell at a lower price. This one also has a crown angle that could be okay or it could cause a little leakage in the center. You'd need Yekutiel to check it with an idealscope or ASET scope to be sure.

This one is slightly safer in terms of the measurements. Again, you'd have to have a jeweler look at it to see if it is eyeclean. I am not sure about the surface graining on this one.

Are you buying for yourself or someone else?

Sensitivity to colour is different for each person, and sensitivity is different to taste, which is entirely personal.

For example, one might be super-sensitive to colour and be able to see the difference between a D and an E, but one might actually prefer the warm ivory tones of a J or a K.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, one might see no difference between a D and a G, but dislike the cream colour of anything below an I and prefer the colourless range.

The person who will be wearing the stone should go to a reputable jeweller stocking GIA or AGS stones and look at the range of colours available, to test their sensitivity and determine their preferences.

Likewise, sensitivity to clarity and preferences for clarity are two different things.

An older person may have not-that-great eyesight that means they are fine with an SI stone, as long as the inclusions aren't large clumps of black or clouds that affect light performance, but they might like VS1 or better for the 'mind-clean' aspect or because of cultural/societal norms.

A younger person might have super-keen eyesight and be able to see even see-through twinning wisps or crystals in a VS1, but not care if a stone is SI because it means they can get a bigger stone or a higher colour for the same money.

Again, seeing GIA or AGS stones in a range of clarities is a good exercise in working out one's preferences.

SI stones that are eye-clean can be hard to find - twinning wisps are 'good' grade-setting inclusions to have (in all clarity grades) so keep an eye out for those. 'Additional clouds not shown' can be risky, though, as they may cause haziness in some cases.

You could go into the PS search tool at the top of the forum and set your max price, rough size range and then sort the results by colour / clarity, as that should give you an idea of the range of options to choose from :))

I also agree that the cut of the diamond is the most important factor. As of color, J is still looking white if there are no DEF side diamonds in the ring.
Many if the GIAs SI2s sre eye clean. ask for video of the diamond to verify it and ask the opinion of the vendor.
