Were these similar settings from ID for 300-400 in platinum or gold? The WF sleek line legato is 1200 in platinum but 800 in 18K WG.

I was looking on IDJ website.

https://idjewelry.com/18k-white-gold-solitaire-engagement-ring-er11691r4w8jjj.html

But I spoke to them and realized they are super busy now and those options are pre-made rings and custom ring to fit this stone most likely will cost more. So I think I will stick with WF. I was just not sure why to pay 3 times more for similar setting. but if custom ring made from scratch for Dimond size makes sense I'll go for it

Agree, assuming @snowpow was indeed looking at the solitaire version. If looking at the pave version, price starts at $1,256 via wire. I actually prefer the plain metal solitaire myself, which is also cheaper.

Yes, legato is #1 on my list. and platinum cost 1275. So I though Maybe this ring will save me some money:
https://idjewelry.com/18k-white-gold-solitaire-engagement-ring-er11691r4w8jjj.html but I think it might go up in price if it is custom made and platinum .....

I don't think that you need a custom ring. I would feel comfortable saving the money on not getting the custom ring.

FYI it shows a 14 day ship time so that isn't really an option because of time. That style is quite a bit different than the WF ring and is listed at 475 for 18k WG. Price will definitely increase for platinum. To compare apples to apples you need their price for platinum.

If cost is the issue WF has cheaper settings, as long as you are open to some variety in the design.

I dont think it's a complete custom like I designed for my fiancee but rather a "semi custom" where they take their standard design and proportionally adjust for the diamond size being purchased.

Unless the OP requested custom work, which I wouldn't do at this point as it will likely slow down the process.

I will stick to WF then. I'll go with Platinum due to durability. If I am talking just 200 difference between IDJ and WF I won't mind plus I keep stone in the house and as I was told IDJ very busy now. can't risk that. Maybe I'll get wedding bands from them this or next week. -is the trade in benefit with WF applies to diamonds only or to rings too?
According to WF they make their rings from scratch hence the price difference vs those made already .

The issue is that you have to give extra time for a stone to go from one vendor to another, the other vendor to set it, and then for it to be sent to you. I would strongly suggest choosing 1 vendor for the entire transaction (whether that's IDJ or WF).

You would also want to secure insurance on a loose stone before having another vendor set it- more added time and hassle.

I bought my stone from one vendor, my rings from ID, and had it set, appraised, resized, and soldered together locally. (I insured my loose stone through JM, and summitted the completed appraisal when everything was done.) I had a strict budget, (saving $800 would have been huge to me) so went place to place getting what I felt was the best value for my money. BUT doing this at all these places took like two months.

I guess it’s like that saying,
“Good, cheap, and fast- you can only pick two.”

Glad you're going to stick with WF for both the ring and diamond. Sometimes in life it's worth it to pay a bit of a premium for peace of mind and assurance. I know that, if I was in your shoes now, I would make the exact same choice. Saving a few hundred dollars wouldn't really matter that much if you didn't have a beautiful ring in your hands when you need it. :)

Bingo @TreeScientist. At this point, the OP has to assess the big picture goal which is having a gorgeous ring so he can propose.

Even if a few hundred bucks can be saved, the moving parts and coordination required is too risky of making him fail the main objective. If we had more time, I'm sure there are more cost effective solutions but even when time isn't the driving factor I often wonder if the time (and sometimes frustration) we personally invest to save a few hundred bucks is worth the hassle. There is considerable value in having it all done at one place in a quick efficient manner.

Hey @snowpow, here are some other settings you could ask WF about if it helps on the money side. I really prefer the Legato personally but I understand budget constraints.

Years ago one of my buddy's ordered a Vatche for his girl and it had a long lead time too. I don't remember exactly how long now but seemed like it was 6-8 weeks as he was getting nervous about making his deadline when he wanted to propose.
