Looking for help purchasing a diamond!!!

I'll take a good look at those WF rings again. They do look beautiful. Any idea how their return policies are just in case?

I would have to look (I haven’t worked with them yet). I do know from here that they bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. They customer service is excellent.

Additional clouds not shown should be ok with a vs 2 and the same with surface graining.

But, you see, with whiteflash or BGD or HPD, you would have that assurance. You would have diamond light return images, etc.

You can ask with Blue Nile and they will have someone (likely overseas) pull the diamond and look at it and they will get back to you with an answer.

So my biggest question is why the one you suggested would be better than the one I posted above with the IF strong fluoro? It seems like it's the same color, slightly lower clarity grade with no fluoro. Is that the way to go? and once again thank you to everyone for responding with advice

It's funny because I'm Asian and so is my gf and her friends. Definitely must be a cultural standard kinda thing. Really sucks because these SI graded diamonds probably look better than their V graded diamonds

Yes, that is likely where it comes from and you are right that these may look better than theirs.

You do have to ask Blue Nile to have someone look at the one with strong Fluor and see if it affects the diamond in any way—milky? Hazy? I don’t think it is a high risk, but it can happen.

I don't think blue nile has these diamonds on hand which is the issue. The rep probably goes off the numbers on the paper given on the website

The cultural thing is dumb but in the end if having a good clarity grade on paper is important to my gf (and her friends) maybe I should stick with it...

yes, in this case it would be best to stick to a higher clarity. All of her family will ask what the color and clarity is. Probably sticking to a higher color would be best too.

Yup, but pls find a vendor with good upgrade policies in case your gf wants to upgrade to a better cut next time.

Call them about their price and see about price match

You guys are seriously life savers. I called them and they said the diamond is no longer available. It might be because I reserved it through blue nile

That james allen diamond is gorgeous! Is the difference between a G/H that noticeable?

Yes, you may have to take it off hold at BN first

Or call then and tell them it is you who has it on hold at BN and what is their price.

Most asians I know are color sensitive. G is safer, F even better.
I’ll advise against H... the tint is fairly obvious imo under office lighting... if your gf and her friends are used to colorless diamonds, I wouldn’t advise H.

I have a guy friend who struggled (his words!) with buying an E color diamond as he could tell D and E apart but I think he is an outlier...

It’s an HCA 1.8 with two “very good” categories instead of excellent. Very good on scintillation and spread.

Ask her two friends who commented what their diamonds are.

If you have to go up in color and clarity, will you go up on price or down on size?

I did yesterday and they're surprisingly okay with a H color. Their reasoning is that G-H-F wont have much of a difference when eye tested. Is a lower HCA grade a good thing? The BN diamond scored a 1.1 and excellent on 3/4 categories. What exactly does the grade measure??

Probably down on size but 1.4ish would be nice as it seems like all her friends rings are at least that size or bigger..

HCA is a rejection tool. Diamonds over 2 are rejected. Diamonds under two aren’t necessarily accepted. A 1 or higher is preferred for a ring. Below 1 for pendants or studs preferred. A 1.2 isn’t necessarily better than a 1.6 for instance.

Ok. So I think you should stick with a 1.4 H if her friends gave approval.

Got it! Still hung up on that IF diamond. I know it's probably not worth paying the price for it but it happens to fit my budget. Whether the fluoro has a big impact or not is the million dollar question :(

Haha we both looked at the same diamond!
