Looking for diamond earring suggestions

Hi all,

I am looking for a set of earrings for my wife and thought I would see if anyone has any suggestions. The criteria for the search is pretty simple. First, the set needs to complement her engagement ring. To help with this, I've included a few photos of her ring. The first two photos were taken before the ring got redone. The halo stones were not positioned as tightly as originally contemplated during the design, so that had to be fixed. The third photo, is how the ring looks now. And the second requirement is, no colored stones. Realistically, I could expect to use stones between 0.6 and 0.8 ct for a cttw of about 1.5. So with that in mind, what would be some of your suggestions aside from the traditional studs. BTW, my wife is relatively tall (5'9") and has an athletic build, so longer earrings fit her well.

Thanks

% 5'1 or5' 11 everywomen should have a classic pair of studs. You can aways get jackets that have other diamond or diamonds but start with the basics that's my opinion.

What is your budget and ideal stats for these diamond earrings. Ideal cut and ball park of color and clarity?

I agree...classic studs and then you can buy halo jackets for when she wants more bling like for evening wear. The e-ring turned out great! Glad you were able to get it fixed!

I always use WhiteFlash because they have great diamonds that are consistently cut and easy to match. I have a pair of .80 each (1.6 ctw) from WF, actually!

I just found three great pairs, and I am listing the price with the pricescope/wire discount:

Settings:

For studs, these are probably the most popular:

Simple studs would be best when wearing rings with halo / elaborate settings =) .

ONE WORD, STUDS. I'm testing out a pair of fakes now, and I love them.

Although I bow to the ladies here with way more experience than I,
ESPECIALLY when it comes to studs,
I just want to jump in and say
I am a tall lady with long hair, and if I wear anything
"stud" it better have a HUGE presence, KWIM ???

Now, i just purchased a GORGEOUS pre-loved pair of Halo studs that are
JUST the right size and I LOVE them, but that's because the whole
kaboodle adds up to a really big size.....
I would be saving a VERY LONG TIME to find diamond "studs" that size...

I typically favor hoops and my FAVORITE pair of THOSE are an inside-out pair (also pre-loved)
that are Whiteflash......
They are gorgeous, perfect for every day, and make a nice presence on my ear too.....

to me, the above 2 pair of earrings are my favorites and I can't possibly express how much I love them,
but that's me.... You know your lady better than anyone else...

(I LOVE the Blue Nile pair shown above, might have to look into those....)

Ladies,

Thank you for the feedback. I completely understand your point about having at least one set of simple and clean studs. However, ooo~Shiney! brings up the exact point that I am afraid of. The budget for these earrings will probably allow me to go with 0.6-0.8 ct stones for each side, so if they are there just as studs, I am afraid they might look a bit small and get slightly lost. That was one aspect of the engagement ring that turned out very well. While the center stone wasn't small, the well-executed halo really gave the ring some significant presence on her finger. Now with the earrings, I don't think that a halo is the only way to accomplish this, but I'd like some options that would draw the viewer's eye to the earring more than the simple stud.

I agree that any woman would love a good pair of studs, but that carat range may not be noticeable depending on how she wears her hair (up or down) and how big her lobes are. I can't believe I'm saying this because I love halos, but I don't think a jacket would be the best fit for her ering. Have you thought about using a series of small stones in a 3 stone drop setting? It's hard for me to picture without seeing both the ring and earrings in person, but it might work and would be more visible with longer hair. Alternatively, you could go for white sapphire (which is harder than white topaz). It won't give the exact same effect as a diamond, but the average person probably couldn't tell the difference if they are well cut.

White sapphire doesn't sparkle like diamond and also won't be THAT cheap, so you're paying out but still not getting what you really want.

Also, I think that 0.7 - 0.8 each is a GREAT size! Especially 0.8 - that will stand out, especially if they're put in a bezel setting, which easily adds another 1.5mm.

I disagree. I've seen some beautiful white sapphires that would be hard to differentiate from a diamond at a glance. Granted, if someone were to stare at it closely or side by side with a diamond, it would be noticeable. You may be right on the price. I don't have much personal experience to base that on. Only what I've seen. Also, you're right that 0.7-0.8 would NOT small and would be quite expensive as a pair. Unfortunately, if she has a larger earlobe or her hair constantly falls over the earrings, they would appear smaller/less noticeable, IMO (for the same reason a 1 ct diamond may look huge on a size 3.5 finger and small on a size 10).

You can split that. 6-.8 per ear into 3 stones on each side to do 3 stone earrings. That should give a more substantial look than studs.

With whatever budget you have, get what you can with a vendor that has a great upgrade program. Think long term. I am sticking with studs. White flash has a great upgrade policy. Tons of other PSers have Brian Gavin too, also upgradeable. Give her the option of going bigger!! I'd want my husband to.

Well after getting a chance to poke around a few websites with her, it's clear she likes halo studs more than plain ones. She is not entirely sure if she likes a cushion or a round halo, but she is leaning more towards the cushion. So this definitely takes a lot of guesswork out of the process.

As for the stones, Jonathan at GoodOld Gold is the guy for me. He sourced my wife's beautiful engagement ring stone for a great price and given the service that I received from them they've earned themselves a loyal customer for a very long time. Also, knowing my wife, she is not into trading in or upgrading. So the trade-in programs aren't really a concern.

So now the focus shifts to the stones and more importantly the jackets.

That's GREAT !!!!
She's going to LOVE them !!!

I can't WAIT to see what you get !!!
Earrings and pendants are always of particular interest to me....
always planning the next big purchase, hahaha

(p.s. I love DS's huggies as well ! )

Well, you'll get no argument from me about GOG since I have two diamond rings from them! I had forgotten that is where your ring stone was from. I am VERY glad you asked her what she likes!!! The studs with halo jackets are SO versatile!!! The plain studs can be worn casually and with the halos when more dressed up. I do advise that you go with a size diamond that will allow you to buy stock halo jackets, because if you go with a size like .65, you will either have a big gap or you will have to have them custom made. So go with .5 or close to .75 cts each. I have a strong preference for round halos on the ear, because honestly, keeping both sides turned the same way all the time would drive me nuts, and you don't ever have to worry about that with round halos. I'd just have Jon source a pair of ex/ideal cut diamonds for you in I VS2-SI1 and then you'll have to see what jackets he can access. I have seen some I like and some I don't like as well here on the forum, so you'll need to look carefully for those. Round halo jackets will also be more plentiful and easier to find what you want.

(thanks, ooooShiney!)
