What do the knowledgeable folks here think about going to J on a cushion cut? Will it be decidedly more yellow than a round J or because the edges are rounded are they ok? I've heard in emerald cuts it is a bad idea. I was focused on round until someone made it very clear they wanted a cushion cut instead ;). She does like the slightly rectangular look over a more square looking cushion, just personal preference I suppose.

I've been searching for J or up on color, SI1 or up on clarity, very good or excellent cut, and don't really care about carats except she does want something on the larger side so I've been trying to find a stone with maximum dimensions and still the other criteria in my price range. Oh yea price range is up to 18k for the loose diamond.

I found one and have it on hold that looks amazing but I don't really understand the dimensions on because it seems to measure large for the weight/table/depth combo Maybe (most likely) I just don't understand the concepts that well, I'm trying! :)

Polish Excellent
Symmetry Good
Fluorescence None
Table % 59%
Depth % 63.2%
Culet Very Small
Girdle Thin to Thick
LxW Ratio 1.13
Measurements 9.41mm x 8.32mm x 5.26mm

Any thoughts? I need to make up my mind on it by tomorrow morning apparently, but as someone already pointed out there are plenty of diamonds out there so if this isn't something special I can skip it. Not in a big rush or anything.

Also saw these ones...

Thanks!!

The BGD cushions are stunning but they are in fact square. The largest dimension is the diagonal.

So if it says 8.17 x 6.97 x 4.99 from BGD it basically means it is around 6.97mm square?

Thank you Julie. Assuming an excellent or very good cut diamond, is it the table and depth that matter more on cushion cuts? Is there an ideal range to be looking in so I can go out and search all the sites?

Also what makes that first one from B2C unattractive? Does it just not look good or are the dimensions no good? Just curious to help refine what I look for in the good ol search.

If it weren't for this site I would really be flying blind on this purchase!

Thanks again!! :)

Wow I had a super long post and then I accidentally killed it.

In rounds, there is a narrow depth and table range that increases your chance of getting something nice, the odds of getting an ideal cut stone by random chance is very, very poor. Further, there is a weak inverse relationship between table and depth values that can increase your chance a little further. However the design of the modern round brilliant is very standardized. You can cut a fancy shape in many more ways than the standard round, so depth and table is not really good for much. Just look at pictures.

The large J from Ritani: yes J fancies will show more color than J rounds... Just a hunch but from the one picture and the not very good video, I don't think it looks like anything special.

Found some larger candidates from B2C:

I have a GIA J, SI1 with VSBF. It looks mostly white but in the car it does look somewhat yellow at times.

It appears some other folks liked those larger ones too, haha. I'll keep looking around that range, looking at some on hand pictures it appears anything in the mid 7mm and larger range looks pretty substantial although I'm sure that's relative :).
