I'm hoping to get a few opinions on a stone that i have reserved....

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.154-j-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104067973023

From reading this forum over the past month or so, Im familiar with brian gavin's line of diamonds, but im a tad uncomfortable with the fact that im unable to see any of the pictures/imaging associated with the diamond. The flourescence, and the fact that ive never seen a diamond up close and personal with any, is also throwing me off a little bit. Im also in communication with GOG, and i cant say enough about their customer service. Any thoughts?

Specs im looking for

Cut: Ideal
Color: I-J
Clarity: S1-S2 (eye clean)
Ct: 1.1-1.2
Budget ~6K
Thanks in advance!!!

Brian Gavin developed the specs for the original Whiteflash ACA line. I had a diamond recut by Brian or his cutter, and I have no complaints with its performance. I also have purchased two H&A diamonds from GOG.

J color give me some hesitation, unless you know that J isn't too tinted. There are threads on here of J and some K stones in platinum. Fluor only works face-up and only works when you have UV in the lighting, so it may face up whiter most of the time but that tint is still there. Some people prefer the warmer tones of warmer diamonds against their skin tone.

Strong blue might take on a violet tint in sunlight. That would be my only concern with the SB. If it was cloudy or hazy, I think BG would reject it. Crown angle is approaching FIC, perhaps. Table size at 57% is larger than I prefer, but only because I like the smaller table look at 54-56%.

OP - from what I understand, "reserved" (purchased) BGD diamonds are moved to the front as a priority for images of the diamonds to be completed for you to view prior to shipment once they arrive from the AGS lab. If by some chance the images do not match up with your expectations based on the lab report, you will have the opportunity to request a refund, before the diamond even ships out to you.

Thanks for your input TC and Mary. Im not too concerned about the J color. To me, when i wasnt comparing diamonds side by side, I couldnt see a huge difference between the I and J coloring. As far as going to an H, I dont want to sacrifice the cut or too much size as they are paramount for me.

Mary, I spoke with BGD and you are correct about purchasing and moving the pics to the front of the line. Thanks for the heads up.

As far as cut is concerned, does anyone see a potential problem with the stone?

This stone would not have made it into BDG's Signature Blue series if there was anything questionable. Once you see the photos you can assess where the inclusions are. It's a beautifully cut stone and a nice size for that price.

Thanks swingirl. GOG just made my decision incredibly difficult by sending me this stone about an hour ago.

So my choice comes down to the BGD Blue or this diamond.

The GOG is priced at 6300

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Well, they are both J-SI1s, and though the GOG is marginally larger at 6.8 compared to the BGD Blue at 6.7mm, I don't think that would be a visible difference.

FWIW, if I were to buy an ideal-cut J-color stone, I'd prefer strong blue fluorescence over no fluor - so for me, that is a point in BGD's favor.

I also appreciate the BGD Blue's price is apx $400 lower than GOG's.

You can see the images for the GOG stone, and they are all great. The GOG stone does have a couple of crystals on the table (between 6:00 and 7:00 on the Diamond 1 photo), and as I regularly look very closely at my diamond, I would want to check further with GOG as to whether they are easily visible, or only upon close inspection when the diamond is turned a certain way.

Still, the lab report for the BGD Blue stone also shows crystals on the table - just no images yet to see how that translates to real life - so for me I would have the same concerns/questions regarding clarity/inclusions for both stones.

Do you favor a setting at BGD or at GOG? If yes, that might be a good reason to go with one or the other vendor.

Good luck with your decision!
