Lets help my friend's son find an engagement ring! 4K all in... c'mon bang for buck prosumers

OP, as others have already suggested, your friend’s son should really put this stone on hold ASAP. It’s the best alternative that he can find within budget.

I actually lean toward this simple setting. The T&Co True’s shank is under 2mm and if that’s is what his SO wants, I don’t see too many other setting options. Also, if she eventually wants to change it, he would have not spent that much on the original setting.

@apacherose Completely agree with others that the H&A radiant @ccuheartnurse found is the best find! To put it further in perspective, GOG has these h&a radiants which are the same color/clarity but only .91 and a bit more expensive https://www.goodoldgold.com/diamonds/id/3746786 and the one that's over 1ct is over $2k more than the JA stone! https://www.goodoldgold.com/diamonds/id/3639074

Just wanted to put this out there since it has a crisscross facet pattern that's different and pretty, as well - although rectangular and J in color but has a bit more spread: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...NDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&catalogView=true

This one is also pretty and an icy white D but faces up small: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...NDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&catalogView=true

I agree with what simonedi (and others) said. That cut cornered square radiant https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/radiant-cut/1.12-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-2100615 is going to give her the look she wants in the right price range. I also liked the 1.20 radiant https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...NDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&catalogView=true, but it does have a glitch dead center... so I lean to the 1.12 radiant. I think the simple claw prong in platinum is timeless https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...olitaire-engagement-ring-flush-fit-item-67339

Both the 1.12 h&a radiant and the 1.2 ct radiant are good choices. I'd forward those on to him with a basic plat or WG four-prong solitaire from each vendor. He may like one facet pattern over another when seeing the videos.

I've been looking at secondhand sites but haven't been having too much luck.

Hello my pricescope friends!

My workfriends' son is looking for a ring to propose with and he asked for her input! EEeee- exciting!

Her dream ring:

If she isn’t set on a colorless “white” stone, I’d also throw this ring into the pool:

Lovely color and weight. And has a very similar cut, albeit a bit softer and rounded corners.

Hallo @apacherose!

I'm only just seeing this thread now, I'm sorry!

The Tiffany True isn't a radiant. It has less facets and looks more like a step cut, if a step cut had an offspring with a round brilliant. Frankly, I'm not fond of it.

However, the lady wants what the lady wants. I see @ccuheartnurse suggested an excellent stone, but if your friend wanted options, I'd suggest this combo:

in this:

Total price is under $3600 and it's a VERY nicely cut stone, at 6.6mm long, which would give it a little more presence on the hand.

It's a J color, but it's such a nicely cut stone, with no blackout, and I'm not seeing a lot of noticeable tint.

Anyway, I think that would be a very elegant ring and probably hit all the marks. With the remaining $400, he could perhaps afford to add a little bling to her wedding ring, which would be a very beautiful pairing.

So - just my 2c. :wavey:
