Are we talking about the package?

Yup. If what UPS told me is true I am annoyed. But I will reserve judgment til I actually see what is written on the label. From past experience it states clearly if delivery was supposed to be by 1030 AM. So we shall see. If I ever receive it that is. ::)

I know many people have faced far worse this year, but it’s now officially a year (yesterday) since I last physically saw my only child.

I AM grateful that we’ve got through this sh*tty year, and that DS and future DIL are safe, but new infections are up substantially here in the UK, and it feels like it’s going to be another 6 months at least until we can travel to see them.

The only bright thing on the horizon is that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved, and they’re going to start rolling it out next week.

*Give it a chance, and somehow it seems to fit this particular time or my mood anyhow, really well.

Been listening to this while we do some light reno. because my house is looking pretty shabby and surprise! we have little money to really do anything about it. Also too, the house lists and there isn't a square/level surface anywhere. The walls are wonky/wavy. Not by a little, by a lot. It's also tiring to always have to do all of the work ourselves(and honestly, mostly DH). What I wouldn't give to just hire it out or be able to choose some fancy finishes. Possibly could've finagled new counters finally but nooooo, the fridge and now the washer and dryer decide to go. Together. How romantic.
All money goes to maintenance. Always.
Wainscoting the living room next- hopefully that will stop the horsehair from collapsing further with some replastering/repair. Ever replaster failing 150+ yr old horsehair that's pulled free from ancient lath? Yeah, then you know. PIA. Seven billion steps. Then repainting downstairs will be next. For the rest of f@&*ing time. This puts a real cramp in my fundamentally lazy self.
Still, I'm grateful for the little money we have so that we can do this.
I do love this house, but damn does she make us work for it.
And I'm scared to go to Lowe's but I have to to get most of this stuff. If we could wait, we would.
Signed,
Poor Pitiful Pearl
(and extra salty about it)

Welp. I know there's way more important things to be grumpy about. But due to my husbands status when he got out we are eligible for certain types of benefits. We applied back in June but the application
mysteriously disappeared. So we had to redo the application and had to go be insuranceless while we waited for them until close to December 20th. They finally approved us and told us we will have to wait for our papers to come in the mail before we can really go do anything for doctors. Thankfully I was able to find 2 offices who do take the benefits. They can see my daughter really quickly once we get our stuff. Which i thank God for because she has some of her own stuff that really needs attention so she can stay healthy. But I can't be seen until may or possibly even June depending on how long USPS takes to deliver our paperwork.
I am trying super hard to extend grace to the mail people as I encourage others to do. But as my medication dwindles I am feeling more anxious about possibly having to wait until June to be seen.
I had 2 90 day supplies of my very needed muscle relaxers for my TMJ. I have no more than 20ish pills left now. The only reason I have any medicine at this point is because I rationed it. Basically right when COVID started being an issue is when my husband got out. I haven't had a doctor who could perscribe me my meds since then. If I cannot get my dentist to prescribe me some when I see her next in a month or so I am going to have a problem. She doesn't really like having to deal with my tmj and wants me to see an expensive specialist for it so I'm so nervous about her telling me no. My teeth hurt so much if I do not take my medicine nightly that it's hard to eat or even drink plain water because it causes shooting pains from the clenching and the grinding and after a bit it's harder to open my mouth. I already have a limited opening no matter what. It just gets worse without my medicine.

My dental appliances that I pay 350 for get broken within a week. Ibuprofen does not help the pain and tightness either.

So needless to say I need my medicine. And yet whenever I have to go to a new doctor they act shocked I have to take them daily and treat me like I'm trying to seek out narcotics instead of 10mg muscle relaxers that I only take 1x a day instead of the 3x I actually need. The whole thing is really frustrating. I wish I was at home in Florida with my nurse practitioner who had no problem administering my medication prescription and didn't make me feel like some terrible person about it like they do every time here.

I'm long out of my medicine I need for my migraines but somehow that seems easier to weather than running out of the other x.x Erf.

I am so tired of people giving my husband credit for almost everything I do.

It happens constantly.

It is not my husband's fault, he doesn't do anything to contribute to it, and he'll tell people, no, that's my wife's hard work. But people don't believe him, they think he's being modest and they turn to me and tell me how lucky I am to have a man who not only does XYZ (really I did XYZ) but who is modest too!

This happens with things from small too large, from stuff we own to things we do. It permeates every aspect of life.

If I wrote down some of the examples they'd seem unbelievable they are so outrageous.

Like the time an organization that promotes WOMEN in the arts, (that I personally donate money and time to), decided to write an article for their newsletter ABOUT MY HUSBAND. Why my husband? Because in their eyes "he supports the arts." How does he support the arts? Neither he nor I have any idea. He doesn't contribute money or time to their organization (I do.) He is not an artist (I am.) He doesn't go to their shows (I do.)

But it gets worse. They interviewed him for the article over the phone about his career (not art related.) When they wrote the article they added things that he didn't say (I heard the conversation so I know he didn't say them). They added how he helps scout for my photoshoots and helps arrange models and costumes (he doesn't.) How lucky I am to have such a supporting husband who all but paints the pictures for me. (My husband is not involved in any of my process and he never claimed he was.)

The article was written by an organization whose goal it is to promote women in the arts. *SNORT*

Ahhh....now for jewelry.

Most of my jewelry, I BUY WITH MY OWN MONEY.

When my husband occasionally buys jewelry for me, I'M THE ONE WHO ENCURS DAYS AND DAYS OF LEGWORK to figure out the specifics of the item to be purchased, to set up the sale and connect all the participants, and even drive 6 hour round trip to pick up the purchase out of state. I do everything but f@ing wrap the gift.

In the last weeks I've had 5 (FIVE) different Boomers tell me how lucky I am to have a husband who would buy a Faberge Egg pendant for me for Christmas. How nice it must be to be taken care of by a man.

1) I bought the Faberge Egg pendant MYSELF. My husband did not buy it for me.

2) I bought the pendant to celebrate a HARD EARNED CAREER achievement

3) I am not a "kept" woman. I work a very demanding career. In addition, I bought our house, the one we live in together, with money I earned before our marriage. I do most of the housework in our house.

And today, I started getting the "Bravo to your husband" statements about my recent Christmas gift of 7 little ACAs (that I spent a year planning and did everything but wrap myself).

My husband had no part in the research or planning and even the execution I did a a majority of the work for. Yes, he paid for most of the gift - but I did a Hell of a lot of work on it.

I wish it were legal to beat people with a bat like a piñata.

I wish I could find a GOOD and HONEST contractor. Not looking for anything fancy. Just a decent job for a fair price and not trying to take advantage of me. My current contractors are getting paid today and won't be coming back. Not their best work, ignored my prioritization not projects, made fun of DH to his face repeatedly, and are not transparent in how many hours per day (with the total being questionable).

I still have work I need done including super immediate stuff like gravel in the driveway and drainage away from the house.

It is not my husband's fault, he doesn't do anything to contribute to it, and he'll tell people, no, that's my wife's hard work.

I so feel your pain. I really really do.

I buy basically all of my own jewelry (except my original engagement ring, one loose diamond for a necklace 15 years ago, and one pin). My husband grew up in a family of non gift givers. That is ok. I knew that when I married him. He supports me emotionally and is thoughtful in other ways. Yet everyone assumes he selected and paid for everything. Every compliment either starts or ends with ‘good job Mr. X’ or ‘what a lucky girl you are that he buys you these things’. Same thing with my Porsche. Bought it all myself thank you very much.

Example 2....my husband is handy around the house. I love that about him. Guess what, I am handy around the house too. Yet he gets all the credit. Our most recent project (pre COVID) was a partial master bath redo. He painted the walls while I edged and painted the trim. That was where he stopped due to an ankle injury. Guess who installed the three new lighting fixtures by herself? After new counter tops were installed by the stone company, guess who installed the two new faucets by herself? Guess who went to Lowe’s, selected the parts needed, and then replumbed the two sinks by herself? I hate it when friends or his family see something we have done and they go on and on about how great a job he did. When he tries to redirect or share the praise, I get the ‘oh, how sweet that you were there to fetch cool drinks while he worked’. MAKES. ME. FURIOUS.

People really need to stop assum

Left that on top as a new grumble. I started to post a grumble and got distracted taking care of something around here. Never did remember to come back to finish the post and now I can't remember what my grumble was :lol:

On the positive side, it can't have been too serious of a grumble. On the grumbly side, I am sick of forgetting things! Oh, and having so much pulling every direction that I can't sit down for two minutes to complain about something...

I'm sure this has already been posted in this thread, but I am so sick of Covid hypocrisy.

I have MANY friends who complain loudly and incessantly when they see people who aren't complying with lockdown restrictions, but they're also the very same friends who do the EXACT SAME THINGS THEMSELVES. It's do as I say, not as I do.

Examples: I've gently mentioned to these friends that perhaps it isn't such a good idea to drive to your vacation home with kids from 3-4 other households in your car and staying with you and your family. Or b!tching about how too many parents are letting their teens hang out together in close proximity/maskless yet they let their own kids do the same exact thing because they're in a "bubble" which of course means they're bulletproof . I've also suggested to a close friend that it may not be such a good idea to travel down to SoCal (where Covid rates are especially out of control) and stay with your elderly/sickly parents and all their other kids and grandkids for Thanksgiving.

They all had the same response, "Oh don't worry. We'll make sure everyone has negative Covid tests before we do this." There is SUCH a false sense of security out there about negative tests. The media needs to call WAY more attention to the fact that a negative test result definitely does not mean zero chance of Covid!

This selective compliance to lockdown measures is a big reason why our numbers continue to skyrocket. OTHER people are always the problem, not us.

Do we have the same IRL friends? My N. Cal friends are in LA for Christmas break, staying with her elderly parents. Although they did quarantine for 2 weeks and had 3 negative tests prior to the drive down. But seriously, it's so bad here, hospitals are out of control. LA County had almost 600 covid deaths yesterday. Do not come here!

I've had a sh'*Ty day.

I have to accept workeers in the house because we had a significant water leakage. The whole wall is soaked and there are electrical outlets etc in it. So imminent danger. Now I have plumber, tile guy, electrician and builder here for several days plus then painters.

I had zero people over because of Covid. They are masked and I air out the house , but they are in different places and I can't be everywhere.

After 9 hours of jackhammer and a generally stressful day and all but one bathroomon functional and one bathtub in my bedroom (!!) I realised my cardholder is gone. It's a small leather " envelope" roughly the size of a credit card. I have no idea where it is. It be has it's place in my small handbag . Tonight I needed my ID and health insurance card (both in there as well as cc s ). It's gone.

it's not the workers, because I had that micro bag on me at home. I have no idea where and how it could possibly have fallen out.

I've just finished blocking all cards. To get a new I D I need to jump through hoops at the German embassy.. I hate it.

Walking, sitting, lying all painful right now
I was just thinking the other day after two years of not going to work my back and shoulder feels pretty good
i have to constantly say to my self bend knees, bum out when lifting
but the kittys play games at bedtime and roll around in the gutter
And i think i carried too big a load of wet washing to the clothes line because my shoulder aches at night the last two nights

What sort of second rate architect designed this house!?! The only window in the kitchen is over the sink (which is in a corner). Okay. Odd, but will be addressed in a remodel later. There is a gorgeous mountain view right outside and you can't see it unless you stand at the sink. Really. The current aggravating discovery is that I can't reach the window to open it. Even climbing my step stool. In order to open it, I will have to clear the boxes off the counter and crawl behind the sink.

This comes up as our new induction range is here and needs to sit on with windows open...

Yeah, I'm so turned off by contractors that our house needs many things fixed.
I do what I can (and I can do a lot) but some stuff is over my head.
My solution is to just live in the house in its sad state.

No worries, I'm old and whoever gets it next can fix the stuff.
I refuse to drop my drawers and bend over for contractors so I can keep up with the Jonses.

Besides, 99.9999999% of the home's value is in the land, and where the land is.

Yep! Pretty much the same here. I care about the stuff we need to be comfortable and/or safe. The rest can take as long as I need to learn how to do it myself. Best way to not get my business is to talk down at me and tell me it is far too complicated and dangerous to even try to explain. Yuck!
