Just razzin ya Harriet.

well, kinda....I still vote for that one.

And ds, let''s make sure we get the size right. It''s 3 1/2 cts.! Which REALLY makes me think the first one is too thin....
I don''t like any shank under 2mm, and 2.5 mm is still thin, especially on a 3.6 ct stone! I think the stone would be very top heavy on such a thin shank. It would probably spin a lot.

That''s exactly what I''m thinking...

i like #1. basket setting, thin but proportionate shank, single prongs, low-set, with that huge beautiful diamond. i have a half-eternity bead-set e-ring that matches my wedding band because my mom thought the more sparkles, the better. i felt uncomfortable with it then but thought i''d ''grow'' into it with age. i still feel like it''s too much, even though my stone is only a 1 ct. it''s pretty, but a little too distracting in the ''wrong'' way. i''d rather my ring were distracting because it had an amazing diamond in a classic yet beautifully designed and executed setting.

would the spinning be an issue? do other pscopers with 3+ ct solitaires have a similar problem? my rings are squarish shaped, so spinning isn''t a problem for me...

i vote for simplicity. plus, it would be so much more fun to mix and match eternity rings (stacking them on both sides would eliminate the asymmetry issue).

How many mm is the 1st one? I don''t like the second because it looks like they are just fussed together on the bottom, just my opinion.

No, no, no. It is just a perfectly proportioned, delicate solitaire, but I have no durability concerns whatsoever, not does it look flimsy; just very delicate.
Good to know. Thanks!

Okay, I like Jeff''s setting far better than #1. I just read that you didn''t like that last link from Ellen, but maybe Jeff''s would be a good compromise?
Maybe. As Jeff said, Leon will work out a balance.

DS dear, don''t worry. I won''t go below 2mm.

Leon said he could put in beads to stop the spinning. Is he talking about the beads Maisie showed me?

I would think so, those are the ones most commonly used.

Hi Erica,
Thanks for solving the asymmetry problem.

Leon says he can stop the spinning with beads.

Dunno. Too much ring at the back, you reckon?

I don''t like how it isn''t smooth/flows in the back.

Gotcha.

Harriet- have you made a descision yet, or are you still contemplating?
I know it must be a hard choice 2 make since both settings are amazing.

Hard, but I''m leaning toward the solitaire. Thanks for checking in!

So what did you decide Harriet?

The solitaire.

Oh, and I have a solution to the spinning problem -- Scotchtape!

Hahaha...I think Leon Mege might take your ring away from you if he heard you say you were going to put scotch tape on it!

Heehee. Imagine what he might write on his site!

Hahaha! Let me think...

"I made this for a client who appeared to be very refined and cultured. I was forced to confiscate the ring after I realized she put scotch tape (a cheap and mass produced product) on the ring to keep it from spinning. I did not find the scotch tape to be useful to the ring design and will no longer be working with the client. However, the ring without scotch tape is spectacular."

so the first thinner one?

How long will your ring be gone?

I could see us giggling in real life over the tape

Yup.

4-6 weeks.

I wonder if he has to keep the stone with him. I know some jewellers don''t when re-setting stones.

I can see us giggling a lot.

I think he needs the stone. Sorry, it would be fun if you could take a picture of it unset; ask him to do that for you

Harriet, Any progress report on your Leon Solitaire? I''m sure I''m not the only one anxiously waiting to see your gorgeous ring!!!

I love option 2! And I always allow my man some say in the ring, especially if he paid for the diamond!
9.gif

I may be late here but, I love number 1. I have been seriously considering that setting as well. Only I would be putting about a 1.25 sz in it. I thought it would be nice to add diamonds around the basket part. I like the idea of diamonds encircling the center stone from below.

I think a diamond your sz would look spectacular. It would be such a tribute to that sz of stone to keep it sweet, elegant and timelessly beautiful. JMO

I can''t wait to see your finished ring. Everyone will be anxiously awaiting it''s arrival. How exciting for you!!!!!!!
