Harriet- do you like the look of the double claw or single claw?
Single. You?

first of all, let me say i have a solitaire. i would strongly consider accomodating the guy on his choice. it is lovely and i would use that as my bargaining tool to get the three eternities. as in, they will compliment worn on the other hand.

if you like his choice it never hurts to make him happy. down the line if you still long for the solitaire you can try to lobby for a colored stone in the setting and get the solitaire. if your heart is set on solitaire it''s a no brainer, go for that. which ever it will be all good.

I like all the choices, though I prefer no 2, personally.

Hi crown1,

We''ve also found alternatives to the Novos. 3 bands -- 1 in platinum with white diamonds, 1 in rose gold with pink diamonds, 1 in yellow gold with yellow diamonds. Which do you prefer? Look at:

I am obviously a little biased, as my fiance''s ring is based on #1 (a few minor tweaks, double prongs, etc)

It depends on the look you are going for. I think it does not get any better than a big stone in a thin simple solitaire. I''d go with #1 and between you and Leon I''m sure you will get the "perfect" thickness and lines to compliment the stone.

Thanks! I was hoping you'd chime in. Does your fiancee find her ring flimsy, as some fear?

Boston Jeff- I thought you had purchased the Classic Solitare? I think this is a little different then what Harriet has posted.

Harriet, what is the difference between the 2 settings, besides the double vs. single claws and the thinness of the band.

Of the two I prefer the second one. The first one just doesn''t do anything for me. I think maybe because of the super delicacy it just looks insubstantial and (dare I say it?) almost ''flimsy'' to me because it''s so thin. I know that''s obviously not the case but that''s my gut reaction every time I see this setting. (I know I can be honest with you!) (And BTW I know I''m going to get wailed on by my fellow PSers for that ''flimsy'' comment--truly, it''s just my gut reaction opinion, I certainly mean no disrespect to Leon or anyone who has or likes that setting!!)

ETA: Mrs. S. and I were posting at the same time and she raises a good point about having a solitare that you can mix with other bands. If that''s what you''re looking for I would go with a different style of solitare setting. Like... um... maybe something similar to what you have. (

I''d vote for #1 though I''m with dee jay that it looks very thin - too thin. But I do love baskets over prongs.

I really like both settings. However, my vote goes to setting #1! I love solitaire settings and how the thin delicate band will make your beautiful diamond pop! It''ll look huge! I also love the idea of being able to mix and match bands to give you different looks.

I'd go with the split shank ring. Call me old fashioned but if you both love that one and it's the one he'd pick, there you go - it's an engagement ring, no?
1.gif

Personally if I were going to the time and expense to have Leon Mege create one of his masterpieces I would want something more unique and special than that solitaire. I think the split shank would be stunning with your big beautiful diamond and it is even better that your fiance likes that one.

Hi Harriet,

Personally, I LOVE that solitaire. Its so classic and timeless, and leaves alot more options than the other setting does, even though I like that one too....But, if it were up to me, I would go with #1...

Good luck!

Between the two I''d pick #1. If you get the two Novo bands you will have a sparkly look similar to the split shank, but, you could change bands as you please. I do think I am biased though because I am dying for the simplicity of a solitaire or three stone.
Hi Miranda, I can''t see your ring clearly. Is yours paved? If so, why do you want to change?
Yes, it''s pave. I''m tired of it...I was tired of it after 1 month. I feel like mine is just too busy for an everyday ring. It''s a very pretty setting...I''d just choose it for a tsavorite or another colored stone. It''s also set VERY high, which is not practical in my line of work
28.gif
. I really just want a much larger stone set in a simple setting and really miss wearing a wedding band. My current setting doesn''t look quite right with one. I look young and I''m a little tired of people asking me when the wedding is. I appreciate the effort DH made in surprising me, but, I think he knows not to make any other jewelry purchases unless they are off of ''the list''. I''m just toooooo picky. It''s a good thing he has very thick skin...He has to after all of these years with me!

Do you think you will be tired of pave? I think you need to ask yourself if you change your mind frequently after it has been made up. There is more flexability in a solitaire...On the other hand maybe the simplicity will bore you. Both are beautiful choices. I don''t envy having to make this decision. I can''t even decide what color to have my bedroom painted!

I prefer number 2, who needs a wedding band when it looks like there is already one with it anyways? I actually prefer the look of a split shank than the look of a normal setting with a wedding band b/c a split shank is symmetrical whereas a regular set is not when paired with a band.

I really love the design of number two. It''s really a spectacular ring and it is not overkill for your stone. A halo would be overkill, but a split shank just shows it off.

Number 1 is simple...and plain. Yes it will show the stone off, but the ring itself will not look as spectacular in my opinion than set in number 2.

I like number two. But number one is nice too. If you get a number of nice bands for number one... that sounds good. But personally, I''d like the split shank, especially if your FI prefers. it.

I love #2, but I wouldn't want it for an every day ring, the colored stone would be scrumptious in it....

And I think the first looks too delicate for your boulder, I mean, stone, Harriet.

I know you said you like single prongs, but for your substantial stone, if it were me, I'd put it in a bit more substantial setting, like this:

Guess I'm no help, huh?

I''m with Ellen on this one, and if Leon will customize the setting so that it complements your beautiful RB, then run with it. For the long term, I think a simpler setting is more appropriate and timeless as an engagement ring. The split shank would be great with a coloured gemstone as a RHR.

I like the fact that your DF is so involved in the decision making, but remember that it''s being worn on your finger hopefully for a looonnnngg time.

My vote goes to #1, a timeless classic beauty. You can have a great time wearing different bands with it, so much fun. So many options. The second one is gorgeous, but for some reason it hits me as more of a RHR setting. Not sure why, but there ya go.

I love this one too! I think a stone your size warrants a more substantial setting. IMHO, this one would balance out your gorgeous stone- it''s substantial, but classic and timeless.

I like crown1''s idea! You can always put a colored stone in the setting if you really don''t like it and get your simple solitaire.

I love #2 and I think it would look amazing with your RB. Plus you can always get the 3 colored diamond bands anyways and wear them as a RHR or alone on the left hand when you don''t want to wear your beautiful diamond!

Oooh Harriet! I love the first setting. Its just so beautiful! I love the simplicity but to me it also looks like you spent a lot of money if that makes sense. I have looked at that one before and I would love it (if I had more money lol!)

Haaaaarieeeet,
We've been through this before...

We were trying to figure that out. Maybe Leon is using "Classic" for more than one style?
