I like all the choices, though I prefer no 2, personally.

first of all, let me say i have a solitaire. i would strongly consider accomodating the guy on his choice. it is lovely and i would use that as my bargaining tool to get the three eternities. as in, they will compliment worn on the other hand.
if you like his choice it never hurts to make him happy. down the line if you still long for the solitaire you can try to lobby for a colored stone in the setting and get the solitaire. if your heart is set on solitaire it''s a no brainer, go for that. which ever it will be all good.![]()
Thanks! I was hoping you'd chime in. Does your fiancee find her ring flimsy, as some fear?Date: 7/2/2007 11:54:15 AM

I am obviously a little biased, as my fiance's ring is based on #1 (a few minor tweaks, double prongs, etc)
It depends on the look you are going for. I think it does not get any better than a big stone in a thin simple solitaire. I'd go with #1 and between you and Leon I'm sure you will get the 'perfect' thickness and lines to compliment the stone.
I''d vote for #1 though I''m with dee jay that it looks very thin - too thin. But I do love baskets over prongs.Date: 7/2/2007 9:50:20 AM

Of the two I prefer the second one. The first one just doesn''t do anything for me. I think maybe because of the super delicacy it just looks insubstantial and (dare I say it?) almost ''flimsy'' to me because it''s so thin. I know that''s obviously not the case but that''s my gut reaction every time I see this setting. (I know I can be honest with you!) (And BTW I know I''m going to get wailed on by my fellow PSers for that ''flimsy'' comment--truly, it''s just my gut reaction opinion, I certainly mean no disrespect to Leon or anyone who has or likes that setting!!)
ETA: Mrs. S. and I were posting at the same time and she raises a good point about having a solitare that you can mix with other bands. If that''s what you''re looking for I would go with a different style of solitare setting. Like... um... maybe something similar to what you have. ()![]()
Yes, it''s pave. I''m tired of it...I was tired of it after 1 month. I feel like mine is just too busy for an everyday ring. It''s a very pretty setting...I''d just choose it for a tsavorite or another colored stone. It''s also set VERY high, which is not practical in my line of workDate: 7/2/2007 11:33:44 AM

Hi Miranda, I can''t see your ring clearly. Is yours paved? If so, why do you want to change?Date: 7/2/2007 10:45:34 AM

Between the two I''d pick #1. If you get the two Novo bands you will have a sparkly look similar to the split shank, but, you could change bands as you please. I do think I am biased though because I am dying for the simplicity of a solitaire or three stone.
Yah, Ellen! I like that one the best!Date: 7/2/2007 1:51:35 PM

I love #2, but I wouldn''t want it for an every day ring, the colored stone would be scrumptious in it....
And I think the first looks too delicate for your boulder, I mean, stone, Harriet.![]()

I know you said you like single prongs, but for your substantial stone, if it were me, I''d put it in a bit more substantial setting, like this:

Guess I''m no help, huh?![]()
I''m with Ellen on this one, and if Leon will customize the setting so that it complements your beautiful RB, then run with it. For the long term, I think a simpler setting is more appropriate and timeless as an engagement ring. The split shank would be great with a coloured gemstone as a RHR.Date: 7/2/2007 1:51:35 PM

I like crown1''s idea! You can always put a colored stone in the setting if you really don''t like it and get your simple solitaire.Date: 7/2/2007 11:36:13 AM

We were trying to figure that out. Maybe Leon is using "Classic" for more than one style?Date: 7/2/2007 12:10:07 PM

Boston Jeff- I thought you had purchased the Classic Solitare? I think this is a little different then what Harriet has posted.
Harriet, what is the difference between the 2 settings, besides the double vs. single claws and the thinness of the band.

I really like both settings. However, my vote goes to setting #1! I love solitaire settings and how the thin delicate band will make your beautiful diamond pop! It''ll look huge! I also love the idea of being able to mix and match bands to give you different looks.
Yet another good point. Aarrgghh!Date: 7/2/2007 12:35:09 PM

I''d go with the split shank ring. Call me old fashioned but if you both love that one and it''s the one he''d pick, there you go - it''s an engagement ring, no?![]()

Personally if I were going to the time and expense to have Leon Mege create one of his masterpieces I would want something more unique and special than that solitaire. I think the split shank would be stunning with your big beautiful diamond and it is even better that your fiance likes that one.

Hi Harriet,
Personally, I LOVE that solitaire. Its so classic and timeless, and leaves alot more options than the other setting does, even though I like that one too....But, if it were up to me, I would go with #1...
Good luck!
