Sorry for my indecisiveness, but my ring will be going to Leon when he returns from vacation and I want to make sure that I pick my stone's permanent home.

Option 1:

http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=255
I love this one -- it's simple and will accommodate a wedding band.

Option 2:

I also love this one -- it's unique, though it will not accommodate a wedding band. I had intended to reserve it for a coloured gem, but DF prefers it (he's taking an interest in my jewellery

). Crucially, he's willing to pony up for it.

Thoughts? I know it's comparing apples to oranges, which is why I'd appreciate your help.

Harriet, Remind us again what the stone is that you will be putting in these settings. I do love that split shank one.

Hi cinnamon013, it''s my diamond RB. Let me know if you''d like more specs.

Yes, can you link to it - or post the info on this thread? I love Leon Mege''s work! I''m so happy for you.

I like option 1 because a larger stone doesn''t really need any help and I always prefer to keep things simple.

I love them both for different reasons. But I''d have to say, if this is your forever setting then I''d vote for the solitaire. you can then mix and match bands giving you very different looks which I love. I like the split shank but would worry that I''d tire of it over time. A classic solitaire is timeless for good reason..

Of the two I prefer the second one. The first one just doesn't do anything for me. I think maybe because of the super delicacy it just looks insubstantial and (dare I say it?) almost "flimsy" to me because it's so thin. I know that's obviously not the case but that's my gut reaction every time I see this setting. (I know I can be honest with you!) (And BTW I know I'm going to get wailed on by my fellow PSers for that "flimsy" comment--truly, it's just my gut reaction opinion, I certainly mean no disrespect to Leon or anyone who has or likes that setting!!)

ETA: Mrs. S. and I were posting at the same time and she raises a good point about having a solitare that you can mix with other bands. If that's what you're looking for I would go with a different style of solitare setting. Like... um... maybe something similar to what you have. (

What stone are we talking about here? Didn''t see any specs posted.

I agree with Deejay. I think the setting looks really think and breakable.
How about the classic solitare? I love the one that Boom just recently recieved.

So do I. Usually.

WOW Harriet!!! I would love to see some pics of your stone. Do you have a thread started?

I think that with a honker like that the classic solitare would be beautiful, timeless, and elegant. Leon is definetly the way to go.

Option 1! That''s a magnificent stone. Well, let me waffle...how large are your hands? What is your ring size? That split shank is lovely, and that ring would be awesome. But I''m thinking Option 1 is so elegant...

I agree w/DeeJay completely. No 1 does look flimsy. Hope that helps.

Skipster, are you worried I''ll have another "down the sink" fright?

I''m thrilled that DF wants a active role in the re-setting!

I like option 1. It may look flimsy but I know it isn''t. After all, platinum is fairly strong that that setting is holding a whopper sized diamond! To me, a setting should highlight the stone and let it speak for itself, which #1 does very nicely. Option #2 looks flashy and a wee bit trendy. Option #3 is nice but isn''t for everyone. I love low settings but I keep reading on PS about how the low settings don''t make the diamond stand out, makes it look smaller, etc, so this should be taken into consideration as well.

Wow, they are both beautiful rings......I''d go with the solitaire though, for reasons states above, more classic, more options for bands. ..............I have to agree that it looks a bit thin for my tastes, I''d just like to see it be a little bit thicker, especially for the AMAZING rock you''ll be putting in it! WOW! Just curious, what kind of band are you thinking?

That''s certainly a plus. Won''t #2 be gorgeous with a yummy gem?

I don''t know how thick the band in the picture is, but Leon says I can have it as thin or think as I like. If I go with #1, I''m thinking of an eternity. If I go with #2, there won''t be a band.

I don''t think Harriet needs to worry about her stone looking small. A low solitare setting would be perfect for her honker of a stone.

Between the two I''d pick #1. If you get the two Novo bands you will have a sparkly look similar to the split shank, but, you could change bands as you please. I do think I am biased though because I am dying for the simplicity of a solitaire or three stone.

Harriet- do you like the look of the double claw or single claw?

Hi Miranda, I can''t see your ring clearly. Is yours paved? If so, why do you want to change?
