hi everyone,

After learning some more from this awesome community and using the HCA tool. I've done some more research into other stones with a passing HCA number and within my range. Please check these out and help me decide!

1) http://www.gia.edu/otmm_wcs_int/proxy-pdf/?ReportNumber=6222591603&url=https://myapps.gia.edu/RptChkClient/reportClient.do?ReportNumber=DBD489C63F3FD5D89BD41B2F5073B01F

The reports also mention in "Comments: Pinpoints are not shown. Surface graining is not shown." Do these comments really make a difference?

2) http://www.gia.edu/otmm_wcs_int/proxy-pdf/?ReportNumber=1228358403&url=https://myapps.gia.edu/RptChkClient/reportClient.do?ReportNumber=8289170F8BF261F6AE298AF10955C64B

The first stone costs about $500 CAD more.

Thanks for everyone's help again! Appreciate it.

This one has a very low 32 crown angle. Totally far from the specs I gave you. So no to this one.

Same here. Outside the parameters.

These are measurements to help you stay in ideal cut territory with a GIA excellent cut stone.

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0 (up to 35.5 crown angle can sometimes work with a 40.6 pav angle)

pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0 if the crown angle is close to 34)

Thanks for your tips ! It isn't easy finding the stone that has a good HCA rating and falls in those parameters :wall:

It really is though. It's about staying within your budget and accepting what type of stone you will get for that.

Personally, I'd go down on everything else but cut in order to get the best performance for your buck.

I see you are shopping in CAD, where are the diamonds you are looking at from? What is your budget and wants?

Hi Stive,

I was shopping at like Diamonds For Less, Blue nile. My budget is around $8500 for a VS1, F-G colour, triple ex, around 1.01-1.05 carats.

Hi diamondseeker,

What do you think about this stone : http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=2226392857&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&c=Page&cid=1355954554547

It also says it has "internal grainings not shown" in the comments. not sure if that makes a difference. :???:

Your pretty safe with a vs2.

What about this one? Already guarenteed your getting a gorgeous rock and you just have to go down a bit in colour, but still an eye clean si1.

Lots let over for the setting.

Yay! Okay, this one is a potential candidate! I have never heard of diamonds for less here, so I would steer clear just because there are safe ones that have hundreds of testimonies on this site. We do have members here who have successfully bought nice stones from Blue Nile, but I personally favor sites that provide at least magnified images of the stones and even better are the ones that post light return images such as Idealscope or ASET. Stive85 mentioned Whiteflash, and they are one of my favorite vendors and have bought from them before. Same with Good Old Gold. Victor Canera has a nice selection of top cut stones, and High Performance Diamonds does, as well. James Allen is more like Blue Nile in that they have good and bad stones listed, but they do provide magnified videos of the stones. You might want to check some of those out or tell us your diamond budget and we can link some stones for you.
