I could have sworn that I read somewhere that it is harder to detect color in smaller diamonds. Right now, I''m interested in a .80 K colored diamond. It is a AGS triple 0. I''m going with a tiffany setting (platinum head and yellow gold band). So, would it look very yellow when mounted? Is it true the color will be less noticeable because the diamond is not very large? Thanks in advance.

It sounds beautiful to me! The superior cut will mean tons of brilliance and fire which tend to offset body color to the eye. And I think the yellow gold mounting will add to the beauty. Good luck!

I think it sounds beautiful and the "K" won''t be a problem :)

It depends on you.
Many here would be happy with a K, many would not.
Traditionally in these threads people who speak up are those who are happy with those colors, and those who would not be will hold their tongues.
Nobody knows which way YOU will go.

You should go out and see some Ks for yourself of that size in person and compare it to other color grades.

I'm thinking that you might only see a little body color from the side, but none-very little from the top. The setting sounds perfect for a K-color.

I am not sure your diamond is small enough where you won''t see any color. I had an I colored stone approximately the same size, also an AGS0, and I could see some color from the side, although it looked pretty white face up. I just upgraded to a J colored stone 1.33 carats, AGS0, and I see much more color than in the I. I''m not sure if it''s because the stone''s larger or if it''s just because it''s a lower grade color. I do know that I will go back to an I or higher on the next upgrade. So, you want to make sure you are fine with the K color before you buy it.

I think it will look fabulous and really I don't think you will see a problem with tint at all!, just to show you a yellow mounted K (Prongs are also yellow) diamond Triple AGS 0 this is 1.21 carats, and I love the look. with my H/I eternity band

I personally think it would be GORGEOUS and I wouldn''t worry at all.

My studs (approx .75 each) are K color, AGS-0 stones, and lordhavemercy they are whitewhitewhite. I couldn''t be happier with them.

If you do a search you can find the thread, with lots of pictures!

It won't look yellow but it will be a softer sort of white, not icy. You might notice a hint of warmth from the side but that is fine with some happy K wearers. See if you can view some K colour in person ( AGS or GIA graded) to see what you think.

I love this forum because you get great advice with out snarkiness. Yay pricescope.

Anyway, I will try and see if I can check out some K colors in person. I will have 30 days to return the stone if I don''t like it, so that makes me feel good too. Thanks again for the help.

hi I had purchased a J color .72 carat RB and had then exchange for a G color. I do agree that looking at the J color on its own, face up. You can''t really detect the yellow tint. However, should you view it from the side or compare with a G or higher color, the yellowish tint is very obvious to me. Should you be comfortable with the K color, maybe you can consider using yellow gold prongs, as I think that the ''whiteness'' in the platinum or white gold prongs will make the stone appear even more yellowish due to the contrast.

Would you be up for setting it in a full yellow gold setting (including prongs, not just band)? Reason I ask is that yellow gold makes it very, very tough to judge the color of a center stone; at least, that''s my experience with looking at lots of estate jewelry every day. (There''s nothing I hate more than a customer asking me to guess the center stone color on a diamond set in yellow gold- could be D or J, I can''t tell.)

Even if you stick with a platinum basket it''ll probably be white enough for you if you aren''t expecting icy pure white. A K diamond is not going to be glaringly yellow faceup; just a soft white with maybe a hint of ivory in some lighting or at some angles.
