I'm shopping for a ring for my S/O, she is brand conscience and wants a pear shaped diamond in a Cartier 1895. We're looking for a cut and eye clarity. The most promising diamond I found was:

2.71 carat, H color, VS1 clarity for $63,500

The size, color and clarity are right around what I want but I am not experienced enough to judge the cut. Would getting a copy of the GIA certificate be enough to get a second opinion? Is it uncough for me to ask for an ASET scope image?

If you're dropping this kind of money on a diamond and know you want the brand, then absolutely you should ask for every type of image and verification that you please. If you're spending $50,000+ do not feel bad about asking for all the videos, ASET, etc. that you need.

The experts here would be glad to help you with the ASET, too. The ASET will be more valuable than the GIA report I'd imagine.

I doubt there will be anything out of line on the GIA report, I trust Cartier with this much & well beyond. The diamond can't be objectionable. Then, there is always room for taste & mine would be in deep mourning after the three carat D-E VVS-VS1 that could be had instead; Cartier also prefers those.
