i feel dressing appropriately is a form of good manners and rudimentary respect. a demonstrative respect for self and others, especially, at a funeral. i'd much rather error on the side of formal and traditional than appear disrespectful and ill mannered

no color. no colored stones.

i agree with it better to being too fornal but if its family or a family friend i wear mum's rings so she can come along (and i only have her coloured stones) but they are very middle NZ and modest by PS standards

if its Gary's family i always wear the pretties shoes that fit on the day because his sister can be in one of those moods where she will pick out my failures

@Daisys and Diamonds

you, definitely, do you, daisy:)

for me, funerals are usually formal events. how i am dressed demonstrates my respect and regard for the deceased and the deceased's family.

my family, has always held formal funerals. i think it has a great deal to do with culture, family background, social circle, location, etc ...

in op's case, she lost her grandfather. i am glad i was able to helpful to her ... along with the articles i linked

i still have nightmares about going to my friend's sister's funeral in my work clothes
i honestly would not have been surprised if i had been struck by lightening that day sent down from my mother
i would normally wear somber attire
....like an office worker in Wellington :lol-2:
they always look like they are off to a funneral
