Hi there PSers,
I am interested in making a pendant necklace... i have a diamond in mind and a design in mind. I have spoken to the diamond vendor's designer. however, i think i may have to seek bench work elsewhere. Note, i am not going to state which diamond and therefore the vendor, i am looking at just in case it goes. But those that are savvy
will know which diamond and vendor i am talking about.
I HAVE NOT purchased the diamond yet, as i am a firm believer that i want it all designed such that the purchase and design is all done at the same time. Otherwise, for me, the diamond is going to sit in the drawer. Yes, i know i may lose the diamond, but i am prepared to take that risk. It is a project that i have been thinking about for some time.... and the longer it takes, the more money i save for the project. And, if i lose that diamond, then that is ok. As, i have other projects in mind!
The situation:
1) One vendor for diamond, another vendor for pendant design- there is that issue of insurance. i prefer the vendor that sells the diamond to set it, but it seems that this may not be the case. How do we work around this? I know that many PSers have done it with their jewellry/rings in the past. It seems easier to do this shipping from one vendor to another over in the USA. The postage and insurance is cheaper.
2) Then having an issue with the final product once it reaches AUS. We have to pay taxes once it reaches here. Now, if it has to be corrected, it will have to be sent to the jeweller and then re-enter AUS, where POSSIBLE taxes may have to be paid again. It would have been so much easier if i were a US citizen....than trying to manage it from AUS. I may have to, as a last resort, to simplify the design.
3) i know that certain vendors wont deal with other vendors diamonds and therefore wont set it and as such and what i have read on PS: i have eliminated VC and LM.
4) i have seen M Robinson's work and whilst i am tempted, i do not think that my designs are worthy of his time. My tastes now may not be what either of my daughters will like in 30-40yrs time.... Yes, all my diamonds i am accumulating now are for the wealth of my 2 daughters.... I am enjoying them now, though!!!!!
Given the above which jeweller would you recommend?
