Need some help in whether I would be over paying for this.

Looking at a Peerless cut diamond at Jared''s. It''s both ASG and Gemex certified. The stats...
Cut: ASG triple 0 rated.
Carat: 1.5
Color: ASG (H)
Clarity: VS1 (I think)

Price: $13,900

It''s a very, very nice looking diamond. Very brilliant. Though I''d prefer soemthing in a F for color, I''m not anyone would really be able to tell with the way this thing sparkles.

Any opinions, suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks all.

Hi FD,

Is the price just for the diamond or does it include the setting too?

can you also get the exact carat size? I know Jareds has "ranges" for what they consider 1 carat is or 1.5 carat is. I''ve had them tell me that anything .9 -.99 they still consider calling them 1 carat

That''s just the diamond. I will most likely go with a white gold band for an additional $300-400. I tried to negotiate, but the best I could get from them was free mounting.

Unfortunately I don't remember the exact rating. It might have been 1.499... though I looked at a few so I might be mistaking it with another.

Some addtional info that I remember... the depth ratio was 73% and the table was 71%.

don''t forget to add sales tax and thats a chunk of change right there alone from Jareds.

Yes, that is correct. The tax comes out to be $840. I''ve been looking online as well, and have come across some nice finds, though I''m still leary about buying online. Going locally affords the comfort of a 30-day money back gaurantee and a lifetime warranty. I''ll pay the extra for that... though I just want to make suere I''m not getting robbed. I suppose though I could have it appraised within the 30 days to determine that.

So this is a princess cut?

Yes, princess cut, peerless.

I was in the same boat last year, I almost bought one of their round Peerless for $7200

I was taking comfort in their replacement warranty and all that sales pitch, then I researched more, and getting insurance on the ring, covered more than what Jareds (also note they are very strict about you getting your work done and the ring checked and documented to enforce warranty - if you lapse your warranty could void)could offer especially if you were robbed, or lost the ring or whatever. It is a very big investment, but do take your time. I highly recommend purchasing a diamond from a reputable Pricescope vendor. Many here will be able to help you find an optimal performing diamond site unseen. The vendors have great return policy too. And UPGRADE policy!

Try goodoldgold.com

here are some diamonds just from searching really quickly I had not looked at all of them, I even threw in a square H&A as well just a thought.

I am currently in process of purchasing through WF - great process, so far... as rgrds the above: I had them send it to an appraiser, loose, so I can evaluate the stone with my own eyes. I paid shipping for that. money well spent--since it''s a large purchase.

stone was clean, and I went fwd with the purchase... that was comfort that, as you put it: "I''ll pay the extra for that"

this is to say only -- don''t rule out online because it sounds scary. everything in life is negotiable, and that includes the process in which a transaction is conducted. just ask for what you need to have happen in order to have comfort with the trnsaction.

when i started my purchase -- I felt the same. online=robbed, B&M=safe... I totally flipped by the end. I was less able to evaluate or find out what i needed in store... online provides more tools, gives you more space to sit back and evaluate... plus no tax charged at point of sale...

so dont rule it out. online and stores are good options -- one isnt better than other... thieves and con artists at both www and stores ... reputable ppl too. if someone wants to screw you, they prob will... they have a good leg up on you from the start... just do your own DD. Call JVC, for example. check with BBB etc etc etc

Thanks for the links!!!
And info!!!

I haven''t seen the Jared Peerless princesses myself, but I''ve been told they''re beautiful. However, I also have heard that they''re substantially overpriced compared to an ideal cut princess of equal beauty that you can find online. The Whiteflash ACAs or the Infinity princesses would be examples. Up to you, but you can probably save some cash by buying one of these brands instead.

There are hundreds of pages of threads where people have bought from these online vendors. While I understand your apprehension, after reading post after post of satisfied customers that must surely allieviate some of your fears. I''m not as familiar with the Peerless princess cut stones but their Peerless round stones are AGS0 stones. They are beautiful but the better deals can be had with some of the online vendors here. I would strongly suggest that you contact WF or GOG or any of the other respected vendors and compare prices. I think you''ll find much more diamond for the money. If you are buying a diamond and insuring it, you won''t be getting any less than you will from their policies. I wouldn''t dream of letting their policies be the only insurance I had. As for settings and maintenance and polish, any reputable jeweler can and will do that for you. It is sales hype pure and simple - don''t pay for what you don''t need - and at a great premium.

You owe it to yourself to really shop around and compare prices - it''s a big expenditure and I hope you get all the diamond your dollar can buy.

Good luck!

This does help quite a bit.

I guess with all the posts out there from people who have bought online, that I shouldn''t worry about that as much as I have been... provided I do all the homework.

Another reason I had some apprehension about buying online is because I can''t see what I''m buying. There are tons of diamonds out there with comparable features, but I want to get that one special one that shines a little better than the next. I guess I''ll have to decide whether the money I save online is worth it.

Thanks all!

If your "uneasy" because you can''t see, I recommend www.goodoldgold.com

Jonathan will make vidoes and post them online for you to view. He will do a side by side comparison shoot, so you can see the color differences, size differences, and he is AMAZING!

I''d shoot him an email. You wont regret it!
