Hey everyone,
Here's the gemologist review of the two stones I was interested in from James Allen.
What do you guys think? I was leaning toward the more rectangular shape and it seems they favor that one also.

"Thank you for your patience while waiting for the ASET images of diamonds 184124 and 262797. I've attached an interpretation guide for ASET images to the bottom of this email, so please read that over. Other customers have found it very helpful and I hope you agree!

It has come to our attention that the ASET camera that we use (which was manufactured by and purchased from AGS Laboratories) will show ‘green’ in areas that should be ‘red’ for diamonds with tall crown heights or larger carat weights. James Allen is currently exploring other camera options, but in the meantime recommends that the feedback provided by our expert gemologists be given more weight than the ASET images themselves. While I don't believe crown height plays a part in your ASET images, you will see the gemologists feedback does tell a different story from the images attached.

The gemologist has great things to say about diamond 184124, which has great fire, brilliance, and scintillation. It's the brighter diamond of the two and has modern faceting, which boots the amount of pin fire flashes of light it possesses. It's eye clean, has a true "H" color, and has a attractive, soft rectangular outline. This is their favorite diamond of the two.

Diamond 262797 has nice light performance as well, but the gemologist felt that its brightness doesn't balance quite as nicely as diamond 184124. I don't think that you'd see its performance lacking in any way, but this is the reason the gemologist ranked as the second brightest. It has a true "G" color, a soft, squarish outline, and faces eye clean.

The good news is that both of these diamonds are bright and fiery! It's hard to ignore the red in the ASET image of diamond 262797, but as our gemologist has clarified after careful inspection, diamond 184124 is the overall brightest option. Nothing beats the feedback from a graduate gemologist who has examining the diamond in person. Plus, diamond 184124 has the better price as well. I believe you'll be happy with either diamond, but I encourage you to consider diamond 184124.

Please take a moment to review this information and let me know if you have any additional questions. I have extended your hold on these diamonds for an additional 24 hours while you consider your options. I've copied my colleagues in the gemological department on this email and one of them will be reaching out to you within 24 hours to see if you need any assistance in finalizing a purchase. After that time we will release them back to our inventory.

To finalize a purchase, simply call our Customer Service department at 877-826-9866. We are staffed to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any additional questions. I hope to hear from you soon."

I'm really not sure why JA keeps spouting that thing about the red/green border when these stones are neither very large nor have exceptionally high CH.

184124 has a shallowish crown
The other a some what high crown.
The ags aset camera setup is pretty bad on anything but near tolk rounds.

To be honest Im at a bit of a loss when the gemologist opinion is so far off from the ASET.
The tilt in the regular pics makes them not a lot of help.
If you put too so-so stones next to each other one might be better than the other but still so-so.
With accurate aset images one would have a better idea of what is being compared.

I woon't go with the gemologist's pick. The video shows a leaky diamond in the table.

1.70 looks super mushy and gray in the video, I wouldn't even consider it. Plus the rather low crown on that one, some cushions with low crowns are quite bright, but not this.

I am going to suggest contacting Good Old Gold because they can call in cushions for you and get good ASET images and provide you with a comparison video of the stones showing light performance. That is how I bought an asscher a few months ago. Honestly, it is too much money to spend and get a mediocre diamond. I really wouldn't buy one with those ASET images.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll go ahead and contact GOG.

I've just been having a difficult time finding a stone within the specs I want (a good performing stone with surface face area of around 50mm^2+, l/w ratio close to 1.2. Under $12k)

I'm not a graduate gemologist but it seems that the H colour diamond has what is referred to as a "fish-eye" under the table, resulting from leakage.
