I just bought a ring online, 2 ct Princess, J, VS1, Very good cut and am having second thoughts now after the fact. I have viewed rings in person at Tiffany, and couldn't tell the difference between H-D, honestly, but didn't realize until after buying that they don't even sell J color.

Am I going to end up with a diamond I am unhappy with, or will I not really be able to tell the difference? Set in white gold, with micro pave setting.

Color is very personal, so what might bother one person might not bother another. Do you have pictures of the diamond? It would be almost impossible to choose a princess cut without seeing pictures, so I hope you have seen it. I think color is masked better in ideal cut rounds, and I personally would not go to J color in a princess. But you'll have to see it in various lighting to know how you feel about it. How long of a return period do you have?

Oh, and I don't think you can tell a thing about diamond color in a jewelry store. Almost nowhere else you normally go will have that type of lighting. So you need to see it in your home, office, outdoors, etc. to determine if the color is acceptable or not.

No, have not seen it. Ordered through Blue Nile, so 30 day period.

You'll just have to judge it when you see it.

If you had come here first, we would have advised you to only buy from a vendor that supplies pictures, because cut quality varies a LOT in princess cuts. The only safe buy would have been an AGS Ideal cut princess. Other than that, there's no telling how it will look.

Here are a couple to show you what I mean. The first one is labelled very good, but it has a huge table and very flat crown. The second one is ideal cut and has a higher crown and much better proportions.

This shows how pictures can be so helpful in eliminating the poorer cut stones. So compare the one you get to the second one here and don't settle for a stone that is not as well cut! I actually am more concerned about the cut than the color.

Thanks. I have actually contacted BN and canceled the order. Too many questions... Will go for a lower size, higher quality.

Ditto this! Also, a better cut stone will help a lower color look whiter and brighter with all the beautiful flashes and fire! :))

If the vendor you ultimately choose does not have ASET of IS images for the diamond consider searching for an AGS OOO, as was already mentioned ideal light performance will help to mask color. Personally I prefer princesses H and above, though I have seen some very white looking I in AGS OOO.
