Is this wide diamond platinum band a good value?

This band (below) ticks off a lot of boxes for me, and I can afford it! Nothing is holding me back once I get the PS seal of approval

What I was looking for:
A wide platinum band for every day
Size 4.75-5.5
I like baguettes but also rounds
I like the $20k Cartier wide diamond band (pic #1) but I prefer this band for $2k... (below) what do you think?



Platinum diamond band. The dome style is set half way around, with 25 round diamonds, that weigh approximately 2.50 carats total. The band measures 8.2mm wide, and weighs 6.2 dwts.

This style looks very appealing on your hand and offers the finger real estate coverage you were looking for. I've purchased high karat gold jewelry from Ruby Lane before and I had a great buying experience. I say go for it! Those round brilliant diamonds will offer so much sparkle and fire with their many facets... That is a plus over the original baguette style that you were after. Great choice @pearaffair

I was 99% ready to jump on this ring... but the seller cautioned me that pave rings for everyday wear are not the most secure setting. I would be SO upset if I ever lost any stones and I was hoping to wear this all the time.

Pavé for every day... am I crazy? Should I look for something more practical? Tell it to me straight

I am also worried about the pre-owned status of the ring. If it had been significantly re-sized, that could be bad for the stone settings. :/

Is there anyone that makes a super secure pavé setting like this? Or is the nature of pavé that it's just not the most durable?

The diamonds look secure in the tiny prongs that hold them. For me- I would not be too concerned if the ring is as it is pictured. I have a pave ring that is over 70 years old and all the diamonds are intact. Does the seller offer returns? If so you can have your jeweler evaluate the ring for any issues?

The seller offers returns but it would probably cost me $300+ dollars for the international shipping and return costs. I *really* want to avoid a return. I'm wondering if I should just be patient and get this style done custom in my size by a reputable vendor :/

I agree. After trying on some baguette and EC styles in person, they just don't have enough OOMPH for me. The bling bonanza of this style really appeals to me and at least I've tried on this style!

I would wear it as a standalone, and maybe with a yellow gold band if I wanted to rock a mixed metals look. Essentially my e-ring is so fragile that I would wear this instead. But now I'm worried that pavé is too fragile...

Are you close to a border? I'd have them ship it to a staffed Federal Express location in the US to pick it up. Or even a USPS location & have the item marked "general delivery for pick up" & they will hold it at that location. I prefer Fed Ex but if you have to return, go to the Post Office, it's cheaper. It would save a big headache to be honest. Federal Express or even Canada Post does not have as high as an insurance rate as the US side which means that if you ship from Canada, you need to have 3rd party insurance. UGH! This is exactly what I do. I drive to Buffalo & pick up my items, if they aren't what I want, I return them before I leave. I usually try to group my purchases to arrive at the same time so I only have to make the trip once. It can get tedious. And Customs might start giving you the side eye if you're crossing every week. LOL

That's actually a really, really good idea! I am indeed close enough to the border that I could do this. But I'd have to find a jeweller there that could check the security of the setting for me. Quite the trip!

I'm 8 months pregnant and my passport expired two weeks ago, lol. Perhaps I will try out this trip in a few months. I can either put the ring on layaway or just cross my fingers and see how it all works out.

Have you his seen rings like this in platinum at a similar price point? I have learned that there are *always* more rings out there in the world... sometimes patience is key.

You'll need a valid passport & definitely wait before the baby. I imagine you will probably have to take the baby but might be a nice trip for you & the family for the day.

To be honest, I haven't noticed any of the larger styles cause I don't gravitate towards them. Once a band gets larger than 3mm I keep looking. I have short hands. There are a lot of PS'rs that have great eyes & are skilled at finding some pretty awesome stuff but I'm not one of them. For me, I would wait & have David Klass make something. Or you know, pick one of the rings you really love, & send him an email asking for a quote, then you'll have some extra info to make your decision. Similar to knowing what the price was of the Stuller ring comparing it to the one you found online. He's pretty reasonable so give him a try. You'll have peace of mind the piece is brand new without sizing issues & he does fine work. As for the sales person telling you you might lose a stone, yes, is possible with pave. but the stones can be replaced. It wouldnt be a bad idea to buy 2-3 extra stones to have in case you need to use them.

Not to dissuade you from the style but have you thought maybe after the baby is born that you might want something that isn't high maintenance or fragile? A lot of moms say they don't wear their stuff & if they do, it's more simple stuff. Is this for your left or right hand? I would recommend a rolling ring & sometimes you can find them on LT & there are some on Ebay. I have the 2mm version on my right hand & it's not obtrusive in any way. I wear it daily. If you chose the classic size it would be a good width maybe. If the plain ones are boring then try rollingrings.com for pave style or have DK make you one. Check his pics, I think he did make one. I realize both styles are completely different & I'm not trying to outsell the pave band, but perhaps with the baby, you might want something more baby proof. LOL

I've seen rolling rings come up on LT and they look awesome but I have no idea what size I would need; do most people have to size up for rolling rings?

Also you are really kind to offer to walk me through it! I will definitely contact you but I'll do it tomorrow - time for me to stop looking at rings and get some sleep

Yes... something less fragile would be practical! Baby plus living on a farm... perhaps pavé is not ideal for me, lol! The heart wants what it wants. I need to sleep on it and do some more research. I'm reading like every post ever on LT about pavé.

This is a really pretty band! I'm a big fan of the wide diamond bands, as they offer a comfortable blingy look. The Ruby Lane band has shared prongs, which is going to be more secure than the traditional pave method, and $2,000 is a great price for 2.5ctw. If you love it, get it!

I agre with LisaRN and Winkself on this. It doesn't seem as much "pave" to me (which for me at least means tiny little .5-2pt stones) and more like a multi row half eternity. Each stone has 4 shared prongs holding it which is how a regular 5 or 7 stone or half eternity with larger stones is commonly done, and those are meant to be worn and aren't considered pave.

Honestly, I wouldn't wear any diamond ring around the house to do housework or gardening etc...but to wear in general every day or going out, I absolutely wouldn't have a problem with this ring. Just have the stones checked to make sure they are snug in their prongs. It's pretty low set, but it is prongs and I don't know how that would be with a baby in tow. Higher set solitaires would be a problem unless in a bezel, but low set prongs, maybe someone else can tell you. As for wearing it everyday out and about, I wouldn't worry.

Otherwise, if it worries you too much, look for a bezel set 5 stone ring. No snags, secure, plenty of bling coverage.
