Hi there,

I am about to buy this particular stone for my gf engagement ring I am just wondering if it is a good stone.

The link to the analysis:

http://www.jogiadiamonds.com.au/dar/dar.php?reportnumber=GIA1159650249&ct=1.82

It's a 1.82 Pear H Colour Internally Flawless with Excellent Symmetry and Excellent Polish. I looked at the ASET image and there seems to be a lot of green and white but Jogia says that it's an excellent stone and if I don't want it then they will purchase is as one of their signature collections. So any help will be appreciated :D

Thanks,
Evan

The only two bad thing I can see is firstly buying a IF stone is overkill, it doesn't need to be Internally flawless so you could probably drop down a bit in clarity and possibly get a bigger stone and two there is a bit of crushed ice (which is quite common in pears) down in the tip of the diamond....

If you want to look at pear ASET patterns go to Good Old Gold and do a search for pears, there is currently only smaller and larger ones available but you can compare them. If you wish to compare the look and the price check out the pears at James Allen. Good Old Gold could probably find you a nice pear, but you would possibly have to put down a deposit in order for them to do so.

Clarity doesn't matter to me in fancy's. It's one area where I will even pay for IF if I have to. Because performance is all that counts. I want the best performer. And unlike rounds, there aren't equally great cut and performing stones at each clarity level.

This is just one person's opinion and note that I'm not a pear fan. I looked at some James Allen pears as samples. On yours, I think there's less of a crushed ice look in the 360 degree video than most pears - which is good. It's hard to tell at the angle it's filmed, but it also appears to have a less noticeable bow tie effect - which is preferred from what I've read by PSers. If they accept returns with a 100% refund, I think it's worth bringing in for a good look. But, if the inventory is there, I'd rather sacrifice the IF and have a vvs2 or vs1 and larger carat size myself!

Thanks for the reply guys.

The reason that I went for IF is it was the cheapest stone with size 1.7 carat and above, color I and above with at least Very Good Polish and Symmetry. So at the time it was cheaper than let's say 1.7 ct I VS2. I got the stone for about $10000 USD, is this a good price?

I have seen the stone and it looks beautiful, there is no bow tie and no tint yellow at all.

The only thing that bothers me is it looks a bit smaller than what I have imagined. I guess this is normal with any diamond isn't it

But does the ASET image looks good to you all?

That is a very typical ASET for pears.

The ASET is fine, and for Australia the price is also O.K. What size are you looking for?

Not a fan of the proportions. It seems to long and thin for my liking. But as others as said above, fancies are very subjective to individual taste.

I am looking for almost 2 ct stone.

Another option that I was thinking is Marquise diamond but Marquise looks a bit oldish so that's the reason why I went for pears. So do you guys reckon is this a good buy?

I was thinking of putting this in a 3 stone ring with 2 x 0.25 ct pear on each side.

This is only my opinion I got engaged with a pear shape 27 years ago when pear and marquise were popular. These fancy shapes are no longer in vogue so may be a little less expensive. In my opinion make sure your lady likes this shape or the marquise instead of the more classic RB or EC........

Again I made my pear into a pendant after 2 years as I lost interest in the shape quickly. I now wear an EC and feel it will always be classic

it looks nice.. it has a bit of darkness, sort of like a bowtie in an oval but that may be normal for a pear.. my aunt has a pear.. she was engaged in 1969 .. pears were the rage then.. how were going to set it? Halos are huge right now.. not sure if you would do it in a halo.. but in looking at the picture it looks lovely and would be unique today as the 'in' stone is cushion.. which will date you to the far past or now.. so get her what she wants... I have learned here that the setting is more important than I had thought, it can really make a nice, gorgeous diamond go POP WOW.. best of luck!!!! it's such a happy (stressful ;-) time.. :wavey:

edit: sorry I forget you said you were going to set your stone with others.. that will be beautiful.

Too strong a bow tie for me. Shows up both in ASET and in the video.

Hi Gypsy,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the diamond there is no bow tie though. Hmmm, are you saying it's better to change to another stone?
