Just really want to drive home exactly the size, weight, and wearability of what you’re looking to create.

Thank you. I definitely need to do some thinking. I should probably request a wax model so I can truly grasp the overall size.

I just wrote David to request a wax model. That way I can get a better idea of halo size. Right now my shank is super thick and substantial too. That’s exactly how I want it but perhaps I should rethink that to 1F27A466-375F-42E6-8CB1-2CC71250A725.jpeg

I could also lighten it by doing something like this CDFDEBCC-4BC0-4F49-BDA5-D52C5BFE3973.jpeg

Here’s the shank and basket of the heavy platinum sapphire vs the extremely light topaz

Thank you. The shank and basket design on my existing CAD is practically the same as your sapphire ring. This will not be an everyday wear but still I might need to consider adjusting. I just haven’t seen any inspiration that I like better. David is doing another CAD for me with smaller melee so I can compare

Don’t get me wrong I love the design, this is why I chose it for my own. If I could do it again I would absolutely choose white gold so it’s lighter and I would hollow out the shank a bit probably to cut down even more. I get “platinum means expensive” but like it’s so heavy I have to wear it in my pointer finger because it’s too heavy for anything else and even then feels like I’ve got brass knuckles on

Agreed! I was very skeptical when purchasing but it all worked out! I’m absolutely thrilled. I’m debating if I should send it directly to DK or sit on it for a month or two. I want to make sure I don’t let my excitement rush the setting process. Caysie ghosted me after I asked for definitive melee size (no surprise there based on other PS experiences)

I'm a weirdo who likes to sit with new gems for a while before setting them. I sort of enjoy looking at them in bed at night when they're all cozy in their gem boxes.

But I also don't see any harm in wasting no time setting it, since there's zero chance you're going to fall out of love with that baby!

I’m definitely a bit worried about the weight. Im going to see if I can find some ideas to trim it down. I’m not sure I can compromise on platinum. I just love the way platinum wears.

Not weird at all! I do the same thing. I lay in bed and set all of the gem boxes out and rotate plating with them. I have 6 other loose gems right now to keep me company. What’s driving my rush is I have major anxiety shipping my stones. I think I will have it shipped back to me though because I like the feeling of opening them when they come back from GIA. I can play for a week or two and evaluate with the wax model.

I received the molds today! DK is a rockstar! This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to request a mold. It’s really making me excited for the project. I have a dumb question. Do I send these back to him? I feel ridiculous asking you guys that but I’d feel even more ridiculous asking him. I genuinely have no idea. Anyways, this is a tough decision. I wasn’t sure I was going to post because I know everyone’s probably thinking this ring is out of control ridiculously large on my finger. I’m totally in agreement that it is but I cannot be swayed! I absolutely love it! Anyways, the larger halo is exactly what I was hoping for; large and in charge. I feel like a princess when I’m wearing it. It feels so special. The second is a bit more toned down and streamlined. I do think it’s a little more aesthetically pleasing due to the overall positioning of the stones on the side of the halo. Most likely I’m gonna give my husband the final say when he gets back from his business trip tomorrow. So basically sharing for fun!

you don’t need to send it back. No silly question.

I am glad you got the wax I think both have their positives - like you outlined in your post- so I don’t think you’ll go wrong either way.

I personally like the look of the slightly smaller ones? But I can appreciate the desire to have larger ones too. The larger is more of a cocktail the smaller more of a engagement. The smaller I think more proportionate and more to your inspiration pic but like I said- no wrong answer. Excited for you! I am glad you got wax so can be filled with only excitement!

Ha ha thank you for clarifying. I genuinely wasn’t sure. You totally hit the nail on the head- more cocktail vs more engagement. I actually keep going back and forth. I’m currently just wearing the molds around the house like a weirdo.

I too love a big fat halo but I do think the smaller one looks perfectly sized for your finger.

That’s what I’m leaning towards right now! It’s more aesthetically pleasing to my eye. I’m curious to see what my husband thinks when he gets home.

I personally think the bigger halo looks slightly better on its own, but smaller halo looks better on your finger. Both are awesome and I'm excited for you!=)2

So I am in complete agreement with @CBianco. For me, the bigger the diamonds, the better. That being said, the smaller halo does indeed look better on your finger. And it's still quite impressive!! I think you could go either way, but since you're just a tad uneasy about the larger halo, it seems like your ultimate decision may be an easy one. I'm excited for you!!

I actually really want to go with the larger halo but I’m in agreement that the smaller looks better on my finger. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do. I’m hoping to make a decision by Monday.

Just to add, I actually think a bigger halo suits the stone better. Based on what I have seen of big stones with halos as well, it’s sort of a proportion thing. You want the diamonds to be big enough to enhance the look vs as a thin rim around (I’ve seen too many thin halos that looks a bit insipid). Admittedly my tolerance for big rings is quite high.

Maybe split the difference by angling the bigger halo stones down a bit more?
What’s the side view look like now? If you’ll share?

Edited to add:
Plus that plastic model/cad isn’t representative of the actual shape of your oval. I find (once we start really nitpicking a design to see if it’s really what we want) that makes it harder to visualize.
You’ll also want to really go through his IG feed on the heights of the girdles of where they are set at on the cluster/halos he’s done.
There’s a whole range high/med/low represented there - if you have a preference on it, that is.

I don’t know if this will help you or if it’s overkill analysis
I pared down the outside prongs to what they’ll might appear after set/worked.

Hard call imo, with what info you’ve stated.

You are amazing! I was just thinking about this. I was attempting to picture how they might look set because I figure that will tame down how the larger halo looks on my finger. This is so so helpful.

I think this stone calls for 'go big or go home.' The bigger halo suits the scale of the center stone and looks centered and stable on your hand. It may sound silly, but when the scale is off between center and halo, I think the ring can look like it will tip or slide.

Whatever you chose, it's stunning!

Wondering if you considered a halo with marquise stones like you posted earlier? I love this look!

This ring is gorgeous but just not what I’m looking to achieve with this particular stone

At first I liked the smaller one better but changed my mind after @Rfisher ‘s handiwork! Bigger halo gets my vote now!

I know this is blasphemy but the other option is to cut the center stone slightly to be able to go with larger melee and have a smaller ring.

I’ve been meaning to update but life has been so busy. I have decided to go with the larger halo! Just as @Mrsz1ppy stated, “Go big or go home!” I was pretty sure that was the direction I was going to go in the first place, but after seeing the smaller halo; I felt torn since it was a more tasteful size on my finger. When @Rfisher posted the visual of the prongs refined it solidified my want for the larger halo. I prefer the proportions on the larger halo. I’m confident in my decision. I do need help with a few nitpicky details though.

1- I always seem to have shank width issues. The shank is currently 2.5mm wide at the bottom and increases. 2mm thick. It still doesn’t feel substantial enough. I’m wondering if it’s just because I’m handling a wax model or if I should bump it up a bit? I want it to be substantial but still well proportioned.

2- spinning. My ring size is technically a 5 but I get all my rings in 5.25 because I have large knuckles and my fingers fluctuate a lot with the weather. We have had an abnormal winter here and almost all of my rings are spinning like crazy. This wax model feels very loose right now and is spinning. I’m nervous to size down. I’m wondering if I should add sizing beads? Anyone have thoughts or experiences with that? Or perhaps bulking up the shank would help? Maybe the open basket is contributing to why it’s fitting loosely?

3- the overall design is exactly what I asked for and I LOVE the look but I feel like the ring is kind of teeter tottering on my finger. I’m trying to figure out what is causing it. Is it cut to high where I circled in black or is it because the ring is to loose.
