so I just purchased a gorgeous old mine cut. The girdle was recently repolished. I asked the seller if there were any issues ie chips in the girdle before I purchased and she said it was immaculate. Anyways just took a look under loupe and spotted something. I’m definitely not an expert. Is this a chip? Can it pose a problem in the future. It’s really not a big deal either way. I’m just trying to decide if I should prong set it or bezel. This is the best I can to with Loupe and iPhone. Tia
I should add that I’m thinking it may be an indented natural but I’m definitely not an expert. The diamond was recently graded VS2. I have a German report but no specific of the type of inclusions.
Surface reaching feather? Could cause a chip down the line if bashed at the right angle. Might be better in a bezel unless the setter is VERY skillful & can put a claw over it without cracking it.
Thank you for all of the info. I do agree it is most likely a feather. I will run my finger over the area and take another look and hopefully some more photos today. These photos were under 60x loupe. I was leaning towards doing a 6 or 8 prong setting but this may sway me bezel. I’m in love with this stone and definitely want to play it safe.
