I have received a few quotes for my project and thus far narrowed it down to 2 vendors... 1 of whom sells diamonds but I’m having a hard time finding something I love (even though I love that style). Is it considered rude or taboo to ask them to set a diamond from another vendor? I saw a few on JBG that I really like. This would be Jonathan at AV, who has been amazingly helpful and quick with renderings and such. I just don’t want to offend by asking

Some vendors do not set outside diamonds. Some do. We do, for example. BUT-- and this is standard across the industry-- most jewelers who set outside diamonds do not take liability for them while setting. Makes sense right? You have a 30k diamond and a 4k setting.... so you aren't going to take 50K liability on a 4k sale. That is easily overcome: go to Jewelers Mutual or another insurance carrier and have the diamond insured. Now, they will not insure loose stones--- UNLESS you show that you have a setting lined up. So you may have to upload the setting quote or receipt to get the diamond insured while setting. The posters here can help you with that. I haven't done it recently.

Wow...thank you for the info! I appreciate it =)2

I don't think it is either rude or taboo and all you need to do is ask to find out. No vendor should be offended at a polite respectful question from someone who is interested in doing business with them. Both Grace and Jonathan are lovely people by the way. And as @LaylaR wisely suggests make sure the diamond is insured no matter which path you take. Cannot wait to see what you decide.:appl:

Thank you!
