Just had a thought (and it’s been a long week so excuse my mush-brain if this is obvious) but would ASET and/or IS images be thrown off if assessing a fancy-colored diamond?

I believe I just read someone say that fancy colored stones are cut to bounce light around inside them in order to intensify the color (as opposed to being cut to bounce light back to our eyes). So an IS may be helpful to see symmetry, an ASET wouldn’t be helpful.

I could be wrong about the about the above... looking forward to seeing others responses.

I thonk wewechew is right, it's more the saturation and evenness of color and those tools can't help w/that. Ags was going to start doing a new report for colored stones, not sure if they started yet.

Gotcha @Wewechew @bludiva that would make sense I suppose about the cut being more about ‘promoting’ the color. I was eyeing one particular FCD, and I was wondering about it, thus the question.

Thanks so much! :wavey:

Fancy colored diamonds are cut for color not high light performance so ASET is not that helpful but yes the colors interact.

virtual but it happens for real also.gasdg.jpg hfhfdhf.jpg

@Karl_K As always, you don’t just answer, you ‘show’ ... which for ‘dummies’ like me is beyond priceless! Thanks so very much!
