Certainly sorry to hear about the familial tragedies and challenges of our forum colleagues. Prayers for your families. On the other topic, my take is that the U.S. is taking steps to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon because that would seriously shake up the Middle East, trigger other countries to build nukes, and make things more dangerous and unstable for the region. Right now, the U.S. isn’t rushing into war—it’s backing Israel’s targeted actions and using diplomatic pressure to keep Iran in check. This approach shows strength without going all-in on conflict, and it helps keep things stable while discouraging Iran from crossing the line. It’s not perfect, but given the alternatives, it’s the smartest move available. If Iran were to get a nuclear weapon, there is little doubt they would use it, which is unconscionable, as would be the responses.

I read an two opinion pieces stating the opposite. That the Iranian people are enraged by the attack because foreign interference including Netanyahu's attack set back the slow progress the Iranian president and the people of the country were making toward changing the influence of their repressive religious leaders.

This isn't one of the pieces I referred to earlier but it touches on some of the fears Iranians have about what comes next. What worries me is that regime toppling in the ME doesn't have a good track record.

I do not follow news or watch any tv. I don't really know what's going on. I know months ago that my country was a target. Maybe still is idk. I mostly feel like Kenny. I wish there was some way to have a person declared unfit, but I guess there isn't. I just can't even imagine any of this stuff happening in the past. Where is the simple dignity and decorum? Is this the way the world is now? My kids are grown and one cannot have children and the other at 35 does not want any. So it's all just day to day for us. But I'll be very honest, regardless of ? how you feel about what's going on, Canada has judged you all in a bad way. It's not fair, but we've never been treated or scared this badly. It does not reflect my personal feelings at all.

Iran has been under close watch this whole time by the IAEA and the JCPOA. Even the current DNI, Tulsi Gabbard, recently has testified what our own Intelligence Community under the annual threat assessment has found:
“The IC continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003,” she told the committee bluntly. Gabbard was echoing an assessment that U.S. intelligence agencies have been making since 2007.
An Israeli general just rage quit an interview with Sky News because he was proven to be lying about Israel's actions and the civilian deaths in Gaza and now, Iran by a journalist who was on the ground as it happened.
They are using the same tactics Hamas/Hezbollah is using targeting civilians and claiming to be different. Tens of thousands are dead in consequence.
It has nothing to do with whether Israel should exist. They should, there is no question. That doesn't mean that their government are to be absolved of all wrongdoing.
These continued actions do make it very hard for the world to continue to defend their government's position and current course.

Lyra, Please know many of us feel exactly like you do. We are disgusted and embarrassed by what has become acceptable. It hurts to know this is what our country chose and make no mistake we all had a choice. Most of us know what respect, character, integrity, decency and decorum mean.
Many of us would not blame you if you did feel the way many Canadians feel. A great deal of us have great respect and care about your country and Canadians. I’m sorry Lyra, for the things the country I live in has done and how they have treated Canada.

Because people like my brother and all those from where I came (rural America aka “flyover country”) are ALWAYS rounded up and shown some “patriotic” figures and told that their ancestors fought for their women’s and children’s and their own freedoms!
And by “people” I mean those who are the actual dregs of society. If that’s an insult to my brother, so be it. He was forced to enlist a long time ago, right before Desert Storm. That’s what they do to these guys—they threaten them with either prison or learning how to kill.
This entire comment of mine will be banned soon, I’m sure. I have never felt safe as an American on this site.

‘Pentagon officials confirmed that these sites sustained "severe damage". While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, some reports suggest the facilities have been "obliterated," while others indicate significant, but not total, destruction“

I believe the objective at hand referred to in the quote isn't the physical damage caused to the facilities but rather the desired result when it comes to Iran's future decisions and actions.
Or, to quote a source everyone is familiar with but apparently naming it is blasphemous as per the current rules of the forum...
"NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!"
Now will not be any time for any peace. Anyone who believed the actions undertaken by the US in the bombing of Iran would lead to peace has been misguided at best, or is utterly stupid, at worst.

Look what they've done to the women in their country.
Remember how it was in the 50s, 60s and most of the 70s?
Women there were free. Not anymore.
Van Jones said "Iran is not a normal country. Normal countries don't empower proxies to surround a country, fire rockets and rape people."

Well to be fair no one exactly likes them either.
It's just that this whole idea of achieving peace through bombing someone doesn't have a good track record of working.
The developments we see today are the natural result of decisions made and executed years prior. Who knows what would've happened if the 2015 deal had been upheld and was still valid and being adhered to by all sides.
