But, Deco, if this means what I think it does, you''d better be hiding under your bed! Millions of L.M. fans will be after you!

In jewelry...I know I don''t like ugly.
( I may not always be able to describe it, but I know it when I see it.)

* high (5+mm) settings
* dirty diamonds
* bad bezels
* any bright colored stone - emerald, ruby, royal blue sapphires, etc. I like paler or more earth-toned shades

What I disliked last year and suddenly love for absolutely no reason I can figure out?

*channel set eternity rings

I''ve been waiting for Kenny to come along and post a photo, but since that doesn''t seem to be happening...

black inclusions in diamonds (my first diamond had one and it annoyed me)

Other than that my list has gotten a lot shorter since joining PS, seeing all the different styles (done well) has really opened me up to things I would not normally like.

Marquise and heart shaped diamonds/stones
Heavy prongs (I think Kaleigh mentioned this too)
Rubies (which is weird since I love the color red. For some reason though, rubies don''t do much for me.)
Cab. and star sapphires
darker sapphires
Key pendants

oh my...
i forgot to mention

*belly chains
*bling on guys that borders ridiculous ( AKA Guy Fieri - YUK! )
*i don''t like the cornucopia type of chain pendant...
*charm bracelets - drives me nuts
*anklets
*multitudes of chains worn around ones neck - looks like a mess

1) Yellow gold
2) RB diamonds in Erings-while I think H&A diamonds are SO beautiful, they''re just not for me in erings. I LOVE fancy cuts!
3) Anything two tone white and yellow gold
4) Cabochon jewelry

Not sure if this counts, but I have a problem with the wearer of jewelry...or it is their choice to wear EVERYTHING THEY OWN all at once.

*A ring and/or several on each finger X 10. Usually little tiny pieces... they express stickiness to me. If they wash their hands, the soap remains all around the rings, the soap scum dulls the stones and metals and seeing it just doesn''t seem clean to me. You know they are never removed...and they look glued on and tight. OMgosh...I can''t deal with it!

*Layering of out date styled necklaces...that 80''s look...MODERATION PEOPLE, Moderation. ( I do like a chunky layering of pearls or chains in a modern version,...costume chunk is stylish to me) Rapper chunk, not so much a fan of either.

*And the old fashioned STUFFY anti piercing one in me can''t stand to see those medieval torture looking piercings things sticking out of every available appendage. I can not make eye contact with the wearer. I just can''t I am in too much pain. As with the ear lobe stretching gizmos...sorry...can''t deal with it. Jewelry shouldn''t convey torture or pain. Closed minded, CHECK!

Looks like my entry is pushing the PC envelope...as I didn''t leave it to just jewelry, but the wearer! HOW SHOCKING! FLOG ME!

Big no for me as well! Integrated head fan here.

ditto this!

(don''t like it on people, either...)

i also dislike (and i know i''m probably gonna be waaaaaay alone on this one) straight bands on engagement ring. i like either ''tapering towards the stone'', or ''widening towards the stone''. but straight around - nope.

*Disclaimer* yes, i''ve seen some nice straight bands on PS and yes, it can be done well or badly. but for ME - with large fingers- there''s has to be more shape to the shank, and it''s part of that ''fully integrated'' look.

{EDITED: INSERT Pink Asscher's lovely photo of the pierced (OMGosh) Blue Ruffled Tuxedo styled shirt wearing model. My quote technique failed to convey the photo over in my reply.}

PINK ASSCHER! OMGOSH! You have no idea how much therapy you have cost me! There is no telling how long I am going to need help! Years...

THANKS ALOT!

The guy gets an A for symmetry...and those blue stones are really pretty. I suppose it kinda grows on you...the more you stare into those dreamy eyes. Perhaps there is room for acceptance even for me?

Teehee. I had to! Couldn''t resist

I''d hang with that dude.

Deco, pray tell, what on earth is a velocoraptor ring?

I generall dislike
- bigger (larger than 1.4-1.4 carats) princess cuts. I''m not a fan in general but once they get too big they remind me of a skating rink with their huge tables.
- marquise and pear cuts (with some exceptions though- Amethyste''s included. Love that pear!). I do love pears as a side stone to a RB though.
- clunky looking pave or bead set stones.
- bar set eternity bands.
- rings that have super high profiles... looks unbalanced to me.
- engagement rings where the band is as big or bigger than the diamond.
- halo rings that end up looking like a cluster ring because the melee is not in proportion with the center stone.
- eternity rings that are so huge they take over the whole set. I know someone else already mentioned this one.
- huge prongs. I don''t even *love* the way mine are executed and I hope to get them fixed one day.

i don''t like the gold "italian bull horn" as a charm on a necklace.

or maybe it''s just the people who belong on Jersey Shore who wear them.

(yup. i''m not PC.)

I made the cut!!! ;)

More:

* Any jewelry that is an advertisement for the company that made it. Especially rings that have the names of the company engraved on them - on the outside for all to see! Why?! I don''t like any logo stuff, clothes, bags, etc. never understood why someone would want to wear/carry something plastered with a logo.

*also can''t stand the ''ring on every finger'' look. I wear rings on 1 finger on each hand.

Interesting thread. I see nothing negative (as some have said). I''ve learned a lot, though.

Dislikes:

marquise
windows
big tables
lots of small facets
anything Tiffany''s
ruby
most emeralds

white gold
prongs
Dark sapphires
Included rubies
Anything that sits higher then 4mm ish off the finger
Anything with hearts- heart shaped diamonds, gold heart rings, anything!
Pave and micropave - they're pretty, but I've owned them and I lost stones on a very regular basis (which is why I don't own them anymore
18.gif
)
Huge diamonds - I feel that anything under 2 carats is pretty and classy. Over that is just gaudy - this is also quite area specific as most people in my area have .5 carat or so diamonds (does not apply to emerald and asscher cuts
9.gif
)
It really gets to me when people don't take care of their jewelry. My cowoker has a 1.5 carat diamond, guessing it cost them AT LEAST 10k (maul store) and she never, ever, ever, cleans it
29.gif
Come on--it isn't that hard to state your opinion without calling names, is it?
I was worried this thread might take a nasty turn if posters didn't mind their manners.
Sparkly Blonde--I owe you an apology. I shouldn't have talked down to you about minding your manners. It wasn't my place, and I don't believe your comment was meant to be hurtful in the least, so my comment wasn't even close to being accurate, anyway.
I'm sorry.

They make me nervous.)

I like eternity bands, but that seriously cracked me up. I can just see a ring attacking the fingers next to it, "DON''T TOUCH ME, STOP TOUCHING ME!"

I think the only things I truly do not like - on myself, of course - is yellow gold and plain solitaires, both because on my own hands they look really bad. I have chubby little fingers so I need something with a little more presence or flair, and yellow gold makes me look jaundiced

I absolutely adore velociraptor prongs, but after this picture, every time I see an LM ring all I can see is a raptor clutching the stone saying, "My preciousssssssssss..." (Not sure why raptor = Gollum, but in my head they''re apparently the same thing. At the very least, it makes LOTR way more interesting.)

princesss--Is it bad that I thought you were quoting Buffalo Bill (from Silence of the Lambs) and not Gollum? I had this totally creepy vision in my head until I finished reading your post.
Now THAT is all I''m going to think of when I see velociraptor prongs!

My appreciation for variety has grown immensely in the short time I''ve been on PS. Here''s the list of things I don''t like for me:

- milgrain and overly ornate settings
- claw prongs (I know, that''s almost blasphemy
6.gif
)
- hoop earrings
- claddagh rings
- brown stones
- black diamonds

My mind works in weeeeeird ways.

Let''s see. Things I love on others but hate on me:

Square cut rings. They look gorgeous on others, and bizarre on my hand.

Bezel studs. I love and adore them. Until they get on my ears. Then... not so much.

Just in general...

I''m not a fan of orange stones, unless they''ve got quite a lot of red in them.

I don''t get the raw diamonds thing.

Bezeled halos. I prefer the pronged halos.

Is this what you mean by velociraptor prongs?
