oh, i kinda like this thread! here goes:

-yellow gold e-rings
-princess cuts bigger than 1.3-1.5ish carats (i''ve got a pc myself - when they get too big they get weird looking)
-marquise diamonds
-pear diamonds
-cluster rings
-halo''ed rings
-diamonds set really high
-inky dark sapphires
-rubies that are pink''ish-red (i like the deep red ones)
-newer cuts that are yellowy-tinted (i don''t mind the warmer old cuts)
-invisible-set princess cuts
-toe rings

and, yeah, add me to your crush-list, kenny! i love how you''re unapologetic about your opinions: you''re a straight-shooter, you simply call it as you see it, and i''ve seen no ill intentions involved. i need to feel less bad about worrying that i might offend someone. lately i find myself spending too much time second-guessing what i say and worrying about hurting someone''s feelings.

for the record, i couldn''t give a crap if someone hates white gold, princess cuts, and sapphire/diamond gypsy-set wedding bands (those''re my things... go on hate all you want!) i''m slowly developing thicker skin as i age (mentally & physically, too!).

I can't really say I 'dislike' anything. Over the years, i've developed an appreciation for pave, split shanks, various cuts and ornate. BUT, there's no way I can pull off wearing anything other than simple. Something that's too pretty/feminine looks weird on me.
elle, I'd give a kidney for your 2 1/2 plus carat G VS2. You gaudy chick you! And that platinum Sholdt mounting?
Hideous, ugly, just how can you wear it?

I'm just playing with you Sparkly Blonde.
Gemgirl - The irony is I haven't.. lol.. but not because I think it's gaudy

Sparkly- it's all good. when i first read the comment i went

but hey, to each their own. Like others have said, we all have different tastes.. but, speaking of gaudy, wait til my 5 stone is an eternity. now that will be over 7carats of pure gaudyness.. lol.

I dislike:

1. white gold
2. colored stones on me
3. princess, heart and marquise cuts
4. costume jewelry

I dislike:

channel set anything
marquise cuts
princess cuts
heart shaped anything
really large RB's (love smaller ones, prefer fancy cuts on the really big stones)
rhodium plated white gold (I like it natural)
most (but not all) halos
80's style yellow gold... but I love it in something more modern or more vintage looking
stacking (don't shoot!)
e-w settings
n-s-e-w prong orientation

* class rings
* claddagh rings
* tippy toppy sky high settings
* velociraptor prongs
* ballerina settings
* soap scum on the bottom of my own diamond
* eternity bands so chunky they look like they are bullying the neighboring fingers and swallowing the solitaire
* cameos
* matching sets (especially costume jewelry)
* necklaces that are too tight and flip when people talk or breathe
* thin watch bands on wide wrists

And, I could stay here all night ...

Wow. I guess I like pretty much everything... Okay, I don''t love high karat yellow gold. I like 14K yellow gold, but higher looks too yellow to me or something. It''s funny how a lot of people are saying they dislike marquise stones. I''m just learning to *like* them actually. They were popular in the early 70''s. My daughter has some marquise shaped rings and I love the way they look on her. I also love pears and would be happy to have a heart shaped diamond too. I''m sure very few appreciate my celtic knot wedding ring, but I''m part Irish and it was my husband''s choice so I don''t care. I like that I for once went with his choice. Really, it would be hard to offend me in a thread like this. I really don''t care whether anyone else loves my jewellery or not. My own daughters wouldn''t wear most of the stuff I love the most!

Alright... i learned many people don''t like pear shapes... i just adore them...

my turn, i dislike:

* ring guards

* butterfly earring backings

* plated jewelry

* bracelets

* thumb rings

* ear cuffs

* those huge ear hole that are filled with plastic or wood disks...

* skull jewelry

* most pave settings (like mine)

* ball prongs

* chunky settings

* those bracelets chained rings thingies - like nose rings to ear cuff thingies...

* emeralds, garnets, opals

* anything pink in jewelry - i am not a pink kinda gal

Shall I continue?

Oh yeah! Piercings below the neck, especially below the belt.

I like most jewelry when well made but I guess there is some jewelry I''m least attracted to:

channel set eternity bands
princess and marquise cuts
Lifeless gems and diamonds
Settings that can hold any head

believe me Kenny...you couldn''t give it away if your life depended on it. who would pay $60K for a microchip?
9.gif

class rings
ring guards
claddagh rings
skull or ghostly design jewelries
big and fake plastic "gem stones"
designer-name jewelry (looks like dog tag on)
"mood-ring" (changes color due to temperature change)
dramatically disproportionate jewelry (ie, a size 4 ringer wearing a 5-stone, 2ct each diamond ring).

Kenny, used Rolex's have good re-sale value. I could probably sell mine for $1,000 and it's just stainless steel and about 17 years old. As far as the quartz movement Rolex's, it's probably a collector's market niche. They're not very popular new, but that doesn't mean they don't have their fans.

Thanks for the link.

Bezel settings. I like to look into the stone from the side and watch the colors bouncing around.

After seeing so many beautiful pieces of jewelry here over the years, I''ve realized that things I never used to like at all really can be GORGEOUS on someone else. I used to think step cuts looked like pieces of glass, but after seeing some really stunning ones on PS (and one unbelievably sparkly one IRL) I''ve changed my mind - I wouldn''t want one for myself because it''s just not my taste, but they can be really pretty. So things I personally don''t like *for myself*...

- step cuts
- yellow gold
- anything dirty
- CZs
- channel set
- black diamonds

large hoop earrings
name necklaces, rings, etc - an initial necklace is fine but your whole name is unappealing to me
matching sets worn all at once

Things I think look funny on me/I wouldn't buy:

-princess cuts
-heart shapes
-costume jewelry
-matching sets
-super high settings

I HAVE to ask Sir Kenneth, WHERE do you find these pictures???

I pretty much love everything on other people but for me I don''t like:

- platinum
- white gold
- pave
- halos
- huge solitaires
- diamond with colored sidestones

I wear the dreaded yellow gold (and LOVE it) - so I have to have a thick skin!

I must say, I''m really surprised at the number of people who dislike white gold. Personally, I always hated yellow gold, but my tastes have broadended. I actually prefer yg in earrings.

Personally, my list of hubris is:

-White Gold/Plat (looks horrendous on me)
-So much pave/general profusion of bling that it looks like sneezing on it will damage it/pop out a stone
-Channel set diamonds (I''m a traumatized child of the 80''s)
-Princess cuts
-Heart-shaped stones
-Scattered-diamond bands (like Kenny, looks like blemishes to me)
-Baguettes
-Eternity bands (all I can think of is NOM NOM LEMME EAT THE BANDS OF YOUR OTHER RINGS AND CHIP LIKE CRAZY! OM NOM NOM YOUR FINGERS ARE SO TASTY
32.gif
They make me nervous.)
-Bezels
-Celtic/Claddagh rings
-Ditto on the class rings
-Ditto on gauged ears (what is that going to look like when you''re 80?!)
-Facial piercings other than discrete stud in the nose

I must say that I, too, have had to admit how gorgeous some things I throughly disliked can be. But a few things remain on my list:

- large round brilliants (diamond or coloured stone)
- rings that are too high or too ornate
- lotus rings (sorry, coloured stones, but I don''t)

Here is my list.

RBs as a center stone.- I like them in earrings and as pave or as halo and whatever else, but as a solitaire or main stone no thank you. *Am I going to be booted of PS now?*
light colored gemstones
heart shaped diamonds
yellow or rose gold
too tight rings or bracelets
square, too big prongs
anything initial or name
anything oversized, excluding diamonds of course

This thread was more fun when there was a *hint* of drama in the air...

But, Deco, if this means what I think it does, you'd better be hiding under your bed! Millions of L.M. fans will be after you!

Checkerboard cuts.

Peg heads
Claddagh rings
Class rings
Swirly 80s settings, namely those that often combine dozens of baguettes and round diamonds
Badly done bezels
Clunky prongs
