What an interesting (and dangerous) thread!

Since joining PS I have come to love *so many* gorgeous exemplars of shapes and styles that I wouldn''t have appreciated before. I can honestly no longer say that I dislike anything, because as soon as I do, somebody will show up with a ring of exactly that style that takes my breath away.

There are a couple of things that I struggle with a little bit, however:

First, I struggle with halos. I have one, and I usually love mine and many, many others here on PS, but sometimes I definitely prefer a simpler and less adorned look.

Second, I struggle with the maltese cross effect in very chunky cushions. I loooove the chunky facets of 8-mains and AVCs (and I find those stones just amazing), but in still photos, the windmill effect gives me pause. I would love to see one IRL and observe whether that pattern becomes less prominent with movement and light changes. I think that''s why I am one of the few people who love 4-main cushions ~ the facets are admittedly not as amazing, but on the other hand, I am not distracted by any particular shape that appears secondary to the facets. This is something I want to learn more about. Maybe I need to do some ''research'' IRL, lol.

Mostly, this thread has made me realize how much my tastes have ''expanded'' since joining PS!

Not trying to come to the defense of anything - just wanted to say that it took me like 10 minutes to get this shot of the maltese cross in my stone - I don''t see it all the time and when I do it''s usually not dark in person but a variety of colors like in the avc stones - the dark is harder to get but I love the look.

Thanks for the feedback, Sara! I like learning more about the various cuts from their owners, especially since I have no personal experience.

Your stone is gorgeous, and I love that photo.
