Harriet, the chainsaw isn''t about Surfgirl individually; I''d feel this way if you plugged any other name into the equation, and that does speak to the macro issue being discussed of imitiation.

I know. I''m just terrified of chainsaws.

OK...if the truth must be told, the picture I posted of coati's ring did not really look all that daring to me. It was truly beautiful, but I secretly thought that it looked classic and like something I would wear. I did not want to be rude when others said that coati had the most original, new ring on Pricescope, however. I thought that perhaps I was just engaging in thoughts that were less than charitable. Now that someone has posted a picture of coati's new ring, however, I can see why people thought that coati's design was new and different .

Why am I always out of it? I was also the one who didn't know that the forum on which problems had started was Rocky Talky. Am I ditzy?

SG has always been able to speak for herself. I don''t understand why Pandora found it necessary to post on PT''s thread. I do not think it was either appropriate or helpful to do so. I hope that PT returns to PS and that SG makes her own feelings known without using an intermediary. The comments were, evidently, hurtful to PT and that isn''t--or shouldn''t--be the way we treat each other.

AGBF~ Thanks for checking out my thread. Scarlet''s ring is beathtaking in pics. I only wish I would have been able to see it and meet her, but my FI was the lucky one! Her pics were great. I should post a few close ups of my own...
N.E.L~ Funny you thought about me when you read this. I''ll admit it hit a spot with me. I''ve really changed how I view things now. Unfortunately, I (as many of us have) got caught up in making the ring so unique, that I did forget what it truly was about. Then when my bubble was popped when I shared it here on PS, as angry as I was then, it gave me an opportunity to step back and reevaluate. I love my ring, believe me I do, but I love my FI and the life we have together far more.
Oh and yes... the project is a WB. Some sort of unique eternity with cushions... (Open to ideas!) Actually working with Mark Morell too on FI''s band, and he has been great!

I'm disheartened, dismayed, outraged and ashamed at the disservice that was done to the poor poster today who came here to share her excitement over her ring.

add me to the list, those were my sentiments exactly.

i came to PS in search of the 'perfect setting' (for me, of course) as have countless others. if my ring turned out to also be someone else's 'perfect ring' and they found it by way of my ring/posts, i would not only be flattered but undeniably excited for them. how wonderful to have the joy that comes from finding and wearing your perfect ring - but add to that the joy that comes from knowing you helped someone along in their quest for that same joy .... well, what a package!

if i designed the ring myself i think i would feel all the more flattered. my only regret might be that i am not in the jewelry-making business so that i could reap some of the benefits of designing something that others want!

one more thought i have had reading through this post - i understand it might feel awkward to have a friend wear the same ring as you, but if i could be thrilled for a stranger who loved my ring and wanted one for herself, i would hope i could feel the same for a good friend as well (whose intentions were pure, of course).

That sounds beautiful CR. I do hope you haven''t been too discouraged to post it when it''s made, but I can certainly understand why you would be. There really was no need for all the nonsense that happened to you, but it seems you have a wonderful outlook about it. You were definitely the bigger person.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I just so happened upon a singlestone ring (vintage, not a repro) in my photo archive (one which we were thinking of having singlestone reproduce for us) because it struck me as being similar to SG''s ring. I just thought I''d post it to illustrate my point that, while the OP''s intention was to repro SG''s specific setting, it''s not an uncommon vintage style and it''s very likely that others even more similar to her setting exist in antique shops around the world.

How would you feel if someone copied your ring?
If it were my engagement ring, nothing. The setting is out of a catalogue. If it were a unique ring, I would be sick (for how long, I have no idea). Then, I would attempt to be a rational creature: Why did I post images in the public domain?; is my ring even sui generis?; would I even encounter the wearer on a regular basis?

How should you feel if someone copied your ring?
Like the rational creature I just described. However, I cannot always control my initial reaction, try as I may.
