would you pay a big ransom for their safe return?

Yes! Definitely! Without a doubt!

Definitely!

DK :))

A long time ago someone stole our dog! We had recently moved to a state far away, and we had the backyard completely fenced in before we actually moved in. Somehow my little dog got out, and I later found out that a neighbor saw a car stop, call the dog and the dog jumped into the car. Her name was Missy! :cry2: Still brings tears to my eyes and it was 40 years ago.

We put up signs including a reward, but we only got one phone call. The person said their brother had the dog, and we said to please get them to bring the dog back and we'd pay them the reward. It was probably a scam call because they never came and we never heard another word. I was heartbroken because it was my baby at the time, and we had moved so far away outside of the North Pole...otherwise called outside of Chicago. We eventually got two other little dogs.

The dogs wear tags that say "Cash Reward, No Questions Asked." So yes. The reason for the tags is because a nefarious person is not going to take my dog to the vet to get them scanned for a chip. They will find a dog and try to turn that into money. So I want to make it easy for them to do just that.

I’m sorry @diamondseeker2006 :cry2:

@Lisa Loves Shiny , Thank you for posting. I will be ordering a tag stating this.

Yes, I would definitely reward the person returning my furbaby.

There was a story on the local news about a woman who car was stolen with her dog inside. Her dog was returned to her a few days later. She was on TV saying she could careless about the car. She just wanted her dog back. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t feel this way.

:( How heartbreaking @diamondseeker2006, I’m so sorry.

Can I also recommend putting spayed or neutered on the dog tag? Sometimes people will steal a lovely dog with the intention of breeding from them, so if they know they’re not able to, the dog becomes less desirable.

I would’ve paid to get my dogs back, thankfully, it was never an issue.

This is why im greatful our cats are very weary and won't go within 2km of anyone that isn't me or Gary
Tinky was the same
If he passed someone innocently walking on the footpath outside our house he would hiss and then run into the bushes

You can usually get them at your local pet supply store for about $8. I recommend one side states cash reward and the other size lists your contact info. Also- use permanent marker on their collars to reflect the same information. :)

Can I also share a couple heartwarming stories with all of you? One day when going home from work I saw a dog in the pre-lobby area of the hospital I worked in. The dog must have gone to the automatic doors and they opened for him. That area closed at 5 pm so I knew he would not be taken care of until the next day.

I picked him up and left a VM on the number listed on his collar. He played with my dogs and then got tired and took a nap next to my head. So cute.

What I didn't know is that the dog was 14 years old. The owner was frantic. I returned the dog to her and would not accept any money for it. Days later I was sent a gorgeous gift bag with flowers, candies and candles from her. She was so grateful.

Another time my daughter had a car accident. I rushed to the scene and the dogs were gone. She told me a bystander took them for her. That very nice man returned the dogs to us a few hours later. My schnauzer nipped his little girl but he took it all in stride. I was so grateful and the best I could do (because he did not want anything for his good deeds) was to send gift cards to his house. What an Angel he was. I will never forget him and his kind deed.

Luckily, my dog is a neutered multi-mutt, and would probably be useless for anyone trying to steal him for breeding. What people can't see is that he is a talking dog, I have taught him to "speak" with human inflections in full sentences. I wish we could upload videos without putting it on youtube (so I can share his talking videos with you). He is priceless to me and the family, and a definite YES on paying a reward if he ever got lost or got stolen!

I'd definitely pay the ransom. But the ransom would be hard for the kidnappers to spend with no fingers. Hurt me or my loved ones, I hurt you back.

The worst thing here is when little fluffy toy type dogs and also staffy types get stolen for dog fighting
Its disgusting

Exactly! Here dogs are stolen train other dogs to kill. It is a disgusting underworld of psycho people who enjoy death and make money off of it. I hope they all burn in hell.

Yes.

Those cash reward collar tags are a fantastic idea. Will use with the next puppy.

We like to train our babies to live inside for long periods for exactly this reason. I'm very uncomfortable with gorgeous doggos in the yard, especially puppies. I'm always worried someone will swipe them.

On several occasions on back roads out in the country was have come across cute dogs out walking
Once we stopped for a staffie who hoped right in the car for a pat then when on his marry way
Its a worry

I feared this when my puppy was little. I never let her out of my sight and she was never allowed in the yard by herself. I heard stories about people throwing bait over the fence to drug your dog and take them. Fast forward now, my puppy is reaching near 60kg and would definitely put up a fight if taken. So I feel a little bit more at ease.

But to answer the question - yes I would pay the ransom. But I would definitely shoot the culprits if I could too.

Ha, they could try. They'd be likely to lose a couple of fingers.

That is a heartbreaking story! I can't imagine the anguish!

For sure!!!

If someone took The Demon they'd be paying ME to give him back within 24 hours!

Oh that's awful :(2

I always stop and take in dogs who have gotten loose or out of their yards. Then I spend the day trying to find their owners. It can be really difficult because I'm usually on my way somewhere, but I can't NOT stop and help anymore than I could pass by a toddler lost and on its own.

One time my husband and I were driving on a fairly busy country highway and we spotted a small, shaggy terrier standing in the middle of the road. He was eating road kill! We stopped, which was a bit dangerous because people drive fast in Texas. We opened our door and the little guy jumped in and hopped into my lap. He looked up into my face, smiled and belched!

A carrian burp!

Man that smelled bad, but was so hilarious! My husband and I still laugh about it to this day.

We brought him home and tracked down his owners who were happy to see him.
