What about your budget for the setting?Date: 6/7/2009 11:02:28 AM

I love the orangy shades. I definitely would have a red coloured stone too. I want to keep the asscher type shape and my budget for the stone would be no more than $400
Its a very pretty stone but I prefer more orangy shades. Thank you for helping thoughDate: 6/7/2009 11:06:04 AM

Garnets? Spessarites run the spectrum of orangey-red. I think the orangy-red (i.e. non-fanta orange) ones are in budget. And there are a lot of pretty red garnets of various subtypes, like this malaya from gemrite seems pretty (might be darker than you want though).

Actually, I just looked at that stone again and I wonder if it might be a good colour. I would need to see it on skin though.. is that something that the vendor would do?Date: 6/7/2009 11:19:03 AM

I asked Dan Stair if he would send me a photo of the stone I like on a hand but he said no. He said that he doesn''t do that as it takes his time away from cutting stones. My problem is that I live in the UK and its hard for me to return stones if I don''t like them.
I do like that one you posted D&T. Its very pretty.

I am still waiting to hear back from John. I was surprised to hear from Dan Stair seeing as its Sunday
Thank you for your opinion. I have had a discussion with Leon about this and he said if I put a gemstone in the setting for now, he would be happy to replace it with a diamond if I want to.Date: 6/7/2009 1:56:40 PM

In my opinion (although no one asked), if I am going to invest in a Leon RHR .. I would pay the bucks for a stone that is worth while. That is .. I wouldn''t spend a couple hundred dollar stone in a 3 to 4 thousand dollar setting.
You edited your post after I responded. I understand that most people won''t understand me buying an expensive setting for a less expensive stone.Date: 6/7/2009 1:56:40 PM

There are stones that are not diamonds but are high quality or rare that will be worth the money in these settings. My thoughts are Harriet is a prime example of doing this right.

Well, I don''t have too many suggestions for stones. I think you are doing a lot of good options.
I also don''t think that the stone and setting budget have to match. I have an expensive sapphire set in a cheep setting (because I could not afford the setting I wanted at the time), and it works great. I see no issue with going the other way, especially if you want to swap the stone later.
I don''t want to go into this with the intention of changing the stone, although its nice to know that Leon will change it if I ask him to. I just want a Leon ring, but I don''t want to wait years until I can afford a 2 ct diamond!Date: 6/7/2009 2:42:46 PM

Charmy,
Thanks for your kind words.
Maisie,
I understand your reasoning. Charmy and Ltl have raised a good point about how the setting might accomodate a future diamond. If you have a diamond size in mind, do have a chat with Leon about how big the gem stone should be (e.g. how much wiggle room the setting will have, etc.). Also, if you have a diamond colour in mind, tell Leon about it so that he can pick the sidestones accordingly. Have fun picking your gem!
