I''m having a 2.1 carat stone set in a pave/eternity setting of .05 carat/5 point stones. Curious how people feel about 5 pointers against this size RB. I don''t want it to look too blinged out and I don''t want it to overwhelm the center stone. At the same time I don''t want a ring that looks like it''s made of connected grains of sand.

So..Too big? Too small? Is there an ideal size? What''s your opinion?

have you discussed this with a designer?

5 pters are HUGE!

do you mean shared prong?

Are you sure you''re using the right terminology? 5 point diamonds are HUGE for pave work. Mine (in my avatar) are 1 pointers.

As Julie mentioned, 5 pointers would be perfect for a shared prong setting.

I think 5 pointers would be very nice if you''re doing a shared prong band. I think mara has 3 pointers with her 2+ carat ring so you could probably go a little smaller if you want the super thin band look. If you''re wanting a pave setting, then your stones should be much smaller, no more than 2 pointers, any larger and I don''t think it''s really pave..

I have a 2.36 RB in a fishtail pave setting with stones just a little under .02''s and I LOVE it. I have had 3 pointers and 5 pointers in other settings, and I do have to say that I noticed WAY more of a difference between the 3 pointers and the 2 pointers than I did the 5 pointers and the 3 pointers. (All of the sizes have been WF ACA melee, BTW.)

The .03s and .05s give a nice flashy sparkle. A surprising amount of bling for the size. The .02s give more of a beautiful, but less-blingy line of "shimmer" or "glimmer" (but certainly do not look like dead little grains of sand!

). It is definitely my favorite of all I have had so far... I think that size melee highlights and beautifies the ring without taking anything away from the center stone.

Hopefully this picture shows the pave a little better... it's really very beautiful.

Sometimes the pave we see in the jewelry stores (especially the mall stores) is nothing but dead little diamond chippies or glorified diamond dust

... but believe me, well cut melee will NOT look like that!

DUH, I didn''t realize the melee in that photo was so blurry. Sorry! I''ll try again.

Yeah, I must be confused with the terminology. It''s probably a shared prong setting with 5 pointers. What am I looking at above? Is that the pave setting or shared prong? And what size are the stones?

I think 5 pointers in a shared prong band would look very nice with a 2.1ct.

A shared prong setting with 5 pointers for your center stone size would look nice.

Lynn, your ring is gorgeous! Love that third pic you posted!

I think 5 points is pretty big for a pave look, but definitely not too big for small accent diamonds. You could do 5 points but I think a lot of it has to do with how they''re set. the tiny grains of sand thing would fall under micro pave. IMO 1-2 point stones are nice. 3 points if you like a blingy look. 5 points for super blingy!
