Hi Miranda! I missed that request. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera. LOL! In fact, I was commiserating with Harriet in the other thread about not being able to take pictures.Date: 4/14/2009 7:53:01 PM

I'm curious, too! This would be a perfect place for those cat pics I was asking for! What's the story!?

Of course not! I'm curious as to why you were surprised that I'm a lawyer by profession, though.Date: 4/21/2009 10:24:52 AM

Harriet, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness! Please see my comments in your spessarite thread. Please be assured that I couldn't find this thread. I'm delighted that you did this! Thank you so much!
It's Daniel, but you can call me Danny.
I won't hold your JD against you, if you won't hold my BA against me.![]()

Hey Indanny,
I'm glad you finally saw this thread!
Seriously, I look forward to your posts. I think you seem very informed about the subject at hand whenever you do post, and I like the fact that you are proud enough of your kitty-cat to have started a post about them![]()
Hawaii, huh...I live in the Midwest, and I have never been to Hawaii, but I sure would like to. I think I have seasonal affective disorder (rain and gray skies really bring me down), so Hawaii sounds pretty darn good to me!
Do tell more...after all, this is your life (I mean, thread!)...

Hi! Great getting to know you. Just wanted to tell you that my cat fetches too! It gets so annoying at times but it reminds me of the dogs I had growing up.
I'm so jealous of your location.

You had made a comment about ''arguments,'' about arguments being a form of debate for you. I had said that I followed your definition. The Socratic method is used in law schools, but it''s also used in undergraduate colleges (rigorous ones, anyway). I think that when we had that exchange, I kind of pictured you in my mind as an academic. Not as an academic per se, but as someone with a post-graduate degree in Humanities or Social Sciences. That was probably something of a projection, because that describes a lot of my friends.
I was pleasantly surprised when you said that you have a JD (something I consider equivalent to a PhD) because I wanted to go to law school. The BA would have been perfect for that, of course, but I didn''t have the discipline to pursue it, and frankly I don''t think I have the requisite social skills for practicing law.
I live on Hawaii Island. I''ve lived in Hawaii since 2001. I''ll be more than happy to answer any questions you or anyone else might have about it. It''s a beautiful place and I''m very lucky to be able to live here.
My interest in jewelry started when I was a child and my grandmother had a jewelry box full of jewels. She mainly liked diamonds and gold, but she liked everything, and she had collected jewelry for many years. My interests in jewelry are (this is a hard question) 1. precious metals, gold, its history and use by various cultures over millennia, platinum, its color and weight 2. diamonds, any color, reasonably high clarity, old cuts and modern (I am finding I like the cut and symmetry of modern RB''s the best) 3. colored gems like red spinel, tsavarite, aquamarine, spessarite, yellow sapphire, tourmalines, amethyst, etc.
I was not very good at science but the one science I excelled at and enjoyed was Earth Science. I''m very interested in the natural world and also in the artisan aspect of cutting stones and creating jewelry.

Kat,
Let me say that I think I suffered from seasonal affective disorder too when I lived in upstate New York. I lived in upstate New York for twelve years. The months after the leaves fell off the trees and before it started snowing when it was cold and raining were the worst. I sympathize with you. I know what that''s like!
I''m glad I finally found this thread too. I was looking for it! Who could refuse an invitation like this? Certainly not me.
Honestly, your comments about looking forward to my posts made my day. Thank you.
My cat''s great. I just wish I had a camera so I could take her picture! She is the first pet I have raised since I got a puppy as a small child, so it''s all kind of new to me. She''s very affectionate and I''m glad I decided to get her.
I really don''t claim to know much about any of this jewelry stuff, but I''m having a lot of fun learning!![]()
As far as Hawaii, I live on Hawaii Island, as I said, and I''ve lived on Maui. I lived here first, and then I moved to Maui, and then I moved back here. I''ve lived here a total of eight years and there''s good and bad things about it like everywhere else, but overall, there isn''t any other place that I''d like to be. I know that probably doesn''t come as a surprise but it''s the truth.![]()
Thanks for the questions! It''s a pleasure to meet you!![]()

You pegged me correctly. I do have a post-graduate degree in Philosophy. I was in a PhD programme before switching to law school. Law practice does not requires social skills, from what I've witnessed.![]()
Do you live anywhere near Hualalai? I've been there. The Big Island (that's Hawaii island, right?) is beautiful, lucky you. As for Maui, did you drive to Hana?
Do you have any pictures of your grandmother's collection? Do you have any plans to start cutting? Do you design? Yes, I'm a curious one.
Yes, that is the diamond my lovely fiance gave me for our engagement. LOL. Yup, my cat fetches...its really funny. I have a sphynx though. I am allergic to most animals but for some reason not allergic to hairless cats.Date: 4/22/2009 9:33:36 AM

Hi EM1!
Is that your diamond in your avatar? Maybe I can be jealous of that and we can be even.![]()
Seriously though, living somewhere like Maui really isn''t as glamorous as it sounds. As I said to Kat, everywhere has its good and bad. I kind of thought ''wow, here I am, I''m living on Maui.'' I got over myself real fast.
It''s interesting that your cat fetches too! One of my Siamese used to, but other than that I''d never heard of that before.
Thanks for saying hi! I look forward to getting to know you better!![]()
