Hmm. To my untrained eye it does not look like VVS2 clarity, or am I just making stuff up on the entire bottom L side of the diamond from 6-8 o clock and in the middle upper right about 1 o clock? I think I am also seeing just random scattered ''dizzles'' around it - just doesn''t look right to me. Again, I am a total novice, so hopefully one of the experts can give you a better feel for clarity. The color would have to be assessed by your appraiser in person.

clarity grading is done face up. I can see specks from the side view, which I wouldn't expect in a VVS2. The picture in the appraisal, it looks very sad. Lifeless in the video. HCA=6.3 (while angles would be more accurate, you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.)

Okay, Thank you! - I thought what I was seeing was on the face up view on the photos that you roll over half way down the ebay page? The lower left side? White area/lines? Am I just seeing a bad light reflection? Thanks - I am trying to learn how to eyeball these better.

Sorry Iregret, looking at the video, it looks like the symmetry is off for one thing, and the diamond isn't very lively to me. I would pass on this one. Also in a properly graded VVS2 you shouldn't see any inclusions from any view. It also has a dark area in the middle of the diamond which doesn't look good.

Well I guess that I am stuck with it. The ad says that I can return it within 15 days, so I will make sure that is clear when I pay for it! Thanks for the insite guys! Oh, should I take some pic for you guys to see when it gets here? Maybe its just bad photos on their part.. I mean the cerificiate states that it is a vvs2. Are they ever wrong? I thought that was the point of the certificate!

Thanks again!

Really the only cert I would trust to be dead on would be an AGS cert or GIA cert. I don''t even like trusting the IGI. It seems like all these new "grading labs" are popping up everywhere and a lot of them have been found to be lenient on their gradding. As in your cert by them may say VVS2 and may in actuality be a SI1 by GIA or AGS grading standards.

I checked out your link and yeah I see the return policy. When you get it if you love it keep it! However my PERSONAL opinion is you could of done better. If your whole point of getting this stone was because you were on a tight budget you can still get something good in your range. My hubby and I got a .83ct, SI2 (eyeclean),G round brilliant diamond from James Allen. The cut was ideal and the cert GIA. I think we only paid a little over 2k for it.

Some grading labs are known to be more lenient that others, so yes they can be inaccurate. AGS and GIA are the industry standards for diamond grading.

Iregret, you have to remember that we are seeing here arguably some of the best cut diamonds available. When you are seeing the best day after day, anything less isn't going to look so hot. Yes, you could do better than the diamond you chose, but if it arrives and it 'speaks' to you and you love it, regardless of what we might think, then it is the right diamond for you. However there is no way in an accurately graded VVS2 that you should see any inclusions, so bear in mind you might not be getting a VVS clarity.

Please make sure you have a firewall return policy, but I wish you luck with this diamond and hope it is what you are looking for!

I am curiosu though, what made you pick this diamond compared to some of the other choices offered you?

I emailed the guy asking about the return policy and he wrote back:

The return policy is 15 day money back, because your auction still says 100% we will honor it, although it will be changing in the near future. I can ensure you that this diamond will appraise well above what you paid for it but if you aren''t happy then you can return it or exchange it, although I am not sure we will be able to find anything better for this money, this really is a smoking deal, if I wanted to buy this diamond on the wholesale market right now it would cost me as a retailer $1800. So I think you will be very surprised with the appraisal value.

The reason that I chose this diamond is because, I had submited the offer before I got all of the feedback. Based on what I read, it seemed that 1500.00 was a fair deal! I understand that you guys see great diamonds day in and day out. My only concern is it being to shallow. I didnt know at the time that there were labs that were better than others. I do now! And, I will take pictures for you to see after it gets here. I will trust your guys judgement as much as the appraiser''s! Like you said, you see great diamonds all the time!

Thanks for the help!

Oh yeah, the setting is probably going to be platnium, and my ladyfriend has pale skin! This worries me as well!

I''m pale. Usually. This year has been a slight change..BUT when I was at my palest of pale the plat still looked great :) BTW I think what they ebay guy wrote you is kind of well...not true. I think you could do A LOT better for your money!

Well, I pricescoped that diamond to those specs, and got diamonds in the 2000.00 range, so if hes basing it off of that, then hes right... At this point, we will have to wait and see. I am going to have to resist the temptation of keeping it. Just the fact that I have a diamond to give to my girlfriend is so exciting! Unfortunately, I havent heard back from the japanese company. Its been 4 days! Does anyone know who I can get ahold of for a setting like this one?

Yea but the issue may be that the diamond ISN''T what the cert says because the grading was too lenient. But it may turn out to be! Do you like the diamond? You don''t need to send it back if you really like it, just cause a lot of us have the opinion that you could get better.

Here is a setting I got. I know it is nothing like the one that I mentioned aboave, but I think that she may like it better. I still may change my mind. She is really into vintage things, and this ring is approx. 60 years old! I cant wait to get the diamond here and have it checked out. If it lives up to par, and looks okay in this setting, this is what I will probably go with! I will post pics of the diamond when I get it. I am expecting it tomarrow.

If she is into antique designs, this setting will probably be much better for her than a tension ring. Tension rings are amazing, but they aren''t for everyone.

Gorgeous setting you picked out. It''s classic and unique at the same time.

By the way, are you keeping the diamond? You might want to try purchasing an ideal cut with a good return policy from a pricescope vendor just to see it with your own eyes and compare. Then you can return the one you don''t like.

I would love to be able to purchase two diamonds and pick between the two, but unfortionately, I dont have the money for that...

I dont know if I am keeping the diamond or not. I havent recieved it yet. I will decide after I have it apraised, and see what you guys think of it, after I post some of my own photos! Thanks

ooo, If she does really like antique settings she will love the one you choose

I''m not all that great at this but i''ll bump the thread in case any of those that are missed it.

It doesn''t look bad. I have seen livel-ier stones though.

What is your impression? You like it?

I guess considerations should be done at this point. Can you get something better/bigger/nicer in your pricerange?
Let me also say that it is very, very unlikely that what you saw in the video was an inclusion. A VVS2 containts minuscule specs, and I really have a hard time believing the stone was misgraded to that extent.

I showed it to my girlfriend. Shes in love with it! I think it looks great, but what do I know about diamonds? I dont know how it could look that much better. I suppose that it could have more fire, meaning that the angle is alittle off, but it looks really good to me. I cant seem to be able to capture any great pics with my camara... We will see what happens after it its officially appraised, and if I decide to mount it. I think that it will look great in that setting!

Heres a not so good shot of the bottom.

It looks good, but I would still be weary. On ebay, I have discovered some sellers will sell CE diamonds without disclosing it, even moissanite and CZ and pass them off as diamonds. Sad thing is, Ebay doesn''t even seem to care- they have to get somewhere around 10+ complaints before they even launch an investigation. So, take it to a jeweler and get it appraised ASAP, within the sellers return policy time. Sorry to sound so gloomy but I almost made the mistake of a buying a CE diamond on ebay before discovering Pricescope and I don''t want anyone else to do the same. If everything goes fine with the appraisal- enjoy your diamond, designing the setting and congratulations on your engagement!

The seller you bought it from has many high end items for sale and I suppose they don''t mess around with CE stones or so. Plus the EGL cert doesn''t state any treatment. I''d just have it appraised to make sure it matches the report.
