Eek! I'm one of the guilty parties... I'm actually need to have my ring sized down to a 4.25.
It's not all rainbows, though! My fingers are man-sized when it comes to length. They're just REALLY skinny. I have creepy, alien-like fingers!

Go to the South Pacific, particularly Rarotonga! I am a size 5.75, my friend is a size 8 - none of the rings there fit me, but they all fit her perfectly or with a little room to spare. We call it "Island Size".

I am "only" a 5.75 as well, which is up from the last time I was engaged (12 years ago). I was 5 1/3 then, I believe.

Google tells me I am pretty average - still! - I cannot believe all the tiny little baby hands around here.

Add me to the big hands club. Depending on the day, I can wear anything from a 7.75 to an 8.5. The reason why I love colored stones so much is because you can get some massive finger coverage without going broke! (it also depends on what stone you're talking about to! )

Well let me tell you it's not all roses having small hands! I come in at 3.75 and honestly everything looks oversized and ridiculous on my fingers!! I love the look of stacking but pretty much can't cause my fingers are also really short so just wearing 3 rings looks crowded (I do it anyway!). Also having detailed galleries etc is kind of a waste of time because they're so miniature you can't really make out the detail. I'd love to have size 5/6 hands, I'd be in stacking heaven *sigh*

Maybe not, I'm a 5.5 and I can't stack much, just not a lot of room between palm and knuckle. Can have wide, short fingers just as easily as tiny, short fingers

Agree. I don't have wide fingers so much as I just don't have a lot of real estate in this area. Stacking makes for a not so great look on me.

I share your pain. I once had a slim size 5 finger, now, due to age and medical conditions, I'm a puffy size 8. One benefit though was I got my engagement ring restyled (and extra blinged) because the original setting couldn't be up sized enough.

Keep in mind that we have posters from all over the world. I, too, was initially surprised by ring sizes even smaller than mine (5.25) when I joined back in 2007, because I literally have the smallest ring size of anyone I know in real life (literally nobody I knew could try on my engagement ring when I got it). But then I realized that some of the posters are Asian. In jewelry stories, I believe most sample rings are a 6 or 7 so more people can try them on.

That's what I would think, too. My original e-ring is a hair over a carat, and I rarely see any larger when I'm out-and-about everyday. For the record, I live in a large metropolitan area. When I go home to my small, Southern town, a half carat seems to be the norm among the upper middle class ladies. I remember having a family friend who had a 1.5ct diamond that she had received for a big anniversary, and everyone ooh-ed and aah-ed over it because a ring like that was so rare! PS has definitely changed my perception of what is "big" and well-executed.

No way! Those are not "middle America" and "average person" numbers. According to James Allen's website, the average diamond engagement ring center stone in the U.S. comes in at less than half a carat, and the average carat weight that James Allen has sold over the past year is 0.9. Ritani says the average ring they sold in 2015 is 1.18 TOTAL carat weight.

Interesting but DF's average for US closely corresponds with James Allen's .90 average! I tend to think, though, that a lot of smaller diamonds are sold at mall stores and other local jewelers.
