While browsing the net I have come across this little lady and I cannot stop looking at it. Every single day I go back to this website and I put my finger up to the screen and imagine it. I must find a way to have her or someone similar to her in my life. Somehow, someway, it must happen. I don't know anything about fancy colored diamonds, so is this even a good cut?

Lets play a game... lets say that I do find a way to get this lil lady in my life, and lets say I decide to set in a ring... what kind of setting would you put her in? I am thinking some kind of rose or yellow gold, two trillion white diamonds on the site or display as a solitaire? what say you PS?

Also do any of you (CALLING KENNY!) have suggestions on which other sites sell fancy colored diamonds like this one? preferably at a better price ;-)

OMG. I have no advice, as I'm sure I know much less than anyone here about diamonds, and colored diamonds in particular. But, I have to tell you that as I scrolled down to see what your excitement was about, I literally gasped! She's gorgeous, and I can certainly understand having an obsession with such a beauty!

oooh

I'd put it in 14k rose gold (pinker metal to highlight the pink in the stone) - maybe a rg bezel solitaire w/ pale pink melee down the shank...

LOVELY specimen.
You have marvelous taste.

But if you are going to look at 1.4 ct VVS1 natural pink diamonds, don't complain about the price.
Actually 38K seems very very inexpensive to me for that honker.
Thank God for that brownish modifier - which my eyes do not detect.
It would be much more expensive if GIA called it pure pink.

To judge the cut I think you'd really have to see it next to other similar diamonds that were well cut.

Do what I do.
Learn to love FCDs near the quarter carat mark and get some nice macro gear. :wink2:

That, or . . . set it in one of these.

This is all your fault btw! you had to post your green diamond here in that thread a long time ago... you know that thread about 'if we could have any stone at any price' or something like that. you have ruined my engagement buying experience. Now I feel like white diamonds are just eh so so. Instead I ohhh and ahhh over really purty blue sapphires & colored diamonds. I.hate.this.

What would something like similar to the stone above with some compromises be at right around 1ct? why is it difficult to find reputable colored diamond sites? bleh.

The precious shall be mine

BTW, what is that ring thingie? is it one of those adjustable rings that some jewelers have?

yes, it should be a solitaire so it stands out on its own. Although something similar to your ring would be fun...

I love rose gold, but my mom keeps telling me it looks like copper

Sorry I ruined you for white diamonds.
Blame Nikon.
Macrophotography really really is seductive and powerful.
But I love to turn people on to FCDS.
IMHO they are sooooooo worth the $$$.

Seriously, why don't you go smaller and add a halo, or not?
People who understand FCDs do not expect to see them in white-diamond sizes, unless your boyfriend is Brad Pitt.

This one is less than half the price of the one you posted.
I personally prefer the cooler pinks to the warmer ones.

I actually don't mind going smaller or even a different shape (as long it's not a pear, princess, or marquise) Honestly I would be happy with an FCD right around 1ct. That one you posted is gorgeous but nowhere near the same color :( I love that tagerine almost glowing honey pink color. It reminds me of a watermelon jolly rancher

Yes. I wouldn't spend much if it was just an average sapphire... I would even stay under $4-9K for that because I wouldn't want a large sapphire, so our budget would be low for that. But for a quality FCD we're totally fine going higher (but still about 25-35% cheaper than the asking price of this specific FCD) so yeah anything is possible. For some reason I would be okay with spending a lot more on a colored diamond, but not so much w/ a white diamond. I don't know why, but mentally that seems logical to me.

Have you used their feature called ADVANCED SEARCH?

It lets you enter your price range, color and shape and is located on the right side near the top.

I'd also look at their champagne and orange colors.
There are some beautiful hues in there, often much less costly than anything that has the word pink.

Sorry, I guess I'm not "making it stop", am I? ;(

Yeah i've been all over that site. I actually found this lil lady when I was browsing the champagne diamonds. I really like that feature because it allows you to consider things that you would have missed because it crosses over the various colors. I love it. Do you know any other reputable sites that sell GIA certified FCDs? or should I just stick w/ this? any good vendors that would source something that I am interested in ?

I have only bought from Leibish and know little about these other sites except the second one, Ishay Ben-David which is in NY and is run by relatives of the family that runs Leibish.
I have dealt with them and they have been very helpful.

http://www.fancydiamonds.net This is Leibish & Co.

http://www.fancycolordiamond.net/ This is Ishay Ben-David.

http://www.serendiamonds.com/

http://www.icestore.com/

http://www.amgad.com/

http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds/fancy-color-diamonds

http://www.langerman-diamonds.com/

http://www.aliyadiamonds.com

Some of these sites require you to register to see prices.
You just have to give them an email address and some will immediately let you in, others require an approval and may take a day or two.

Some will not reveal prices to you unless you contact them - which is why I'd never give them my business.
I like published prices because I feel they are set based on competitive forces.
It also lets me quickly learn what I can or cannot afford so I can leverage my time better.

Oh man...both of those pink diamonds are to die for! If I could have any e-ring in the world, it would come down to a cushion cut pink/brown or purple/brown diamond in a halo! I think Kenny's posts are what made me first look at FCDs too!! I know they are not realistic for me though! :(sad Maybe some day in my lifetime!

CherryBlossom...if you purchase that diamond, I hope you will share pics asap! ;-)

yeah I totally agree with everything you wrote, especially the last paragraph. So basically I have not left the house all day... I'm still in my PJs browsing, pricing, browsing. You better stick around here for a few days/weeks because I need your help if/when I decide to pull the trigger.

What do you think of these 3

BTW, I just came across this post that you linked to in another thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-pink-champagne-e-ring.78974/

I'm so glad you posted to that. I keep telling people that I like the browinsh/orangey/pinkish/champagne diamonds but everyone keeps talking me out of it saying they are cheapy stones. I know some end up obviously being way more (like the ones in this thread) but I've even found myself drawn to some of the inexpensive champagne diamonds. I don't know why, but I love them & cornflower blue ceylon sapphire's. The other object of my affection is this sapphire ring that I tried on the very first day that we began to look for my e-ring. I cannot get it out of my mind, although everyone is telling me not to do it and just get a white diamond and call it a day. I figure if I go the colored diamond route I get a diamond and the contrast that I am drawn to when it comes to my e-ring.

The pix are bad because I took it on my phone, and do this ring any justice... but honestly it's one of the most beautiful rings that I have ever seen. The setting is handmade by an amazing designer, double halo, I really like the basket, center stone is 4.8 ct natural/untreated sapphire.

If I was not a Lookie Loo and was seriously considering buying one of these 3 I'd ask the vendor for side pics and request new FULL GIA reports with clarity grading.
I'd tell them if I buy nothing I volunteer to pay for the three reports but if I buy one I pay nothing for the reports.
See what they say.

Maybe you can narrow it down to one to be sent for a new report instead of 3.
Keep in mind reports lacking clarity grading can be because they fear a dreaded I1 or I2 grade.
Personally, when clarity, and price, is in this region I want GIA's grade not the seller's.
It's not that I don't trust my vendor; it is future salability of the stone and there's nothing like a full GIA report when it's time to sell.

Leibish has been very accommodating of many of my nit picky annoying requests, which is one reason I keep going back to them.
I don't know how IBD will be.

Unfortunately GIA's full colored diamond reports do not give crown and pavilion angles but side view pics may help a couple cut experts here predict the light performance because it tells them where the girdle was placed, high or low.
Personally, I have to see the diamonds in person to judge light performance.
If you live anywhere near NYC I'd make a trip in to see these babies live.

Maybe ask them to take some pics of all 3 side by side at various angles and it wouldn't hurt to even ask for ASET pics.
Let's get these FCD vendors know that light performance is on our radar map too. :appl:

#1. This may be suprisingly expensive since it is pure pink.
It has a girdle that goes down to very thin so that would limit setting options to something protective like halo or full bezel IMHO.
Depth is 70.4%, which is deep but I've been told may look good with a higher crown.

#2. My least favorite of the 3.
In their pic it has dark areas that concern me but it may just be how that pic was taken.
I'd ask them about that and get more pics.
Depth is 73.3%, which is deep but I've been told may look good with a higher crown.

#3 I love the color, and it's darker tone makes it look more like a Fancy Intense until you recognize the way tone and color saturation interact.
David Kodner explained it here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/will-gia-grade-a-diamond-fancy-intense-brown.156442/#post-2850361#p2850361
It is shallow with 53.1% depth so I'd worry that it may have windowing, an undesirable feature that lets you look right through the stone.
Get a pic with the stone resting on closed fingers and look for flesh color showing through.
What are those speckles? Inclusions or a dirty diamond? Is it eye clean to your standards?

Get what you love, plain and simple. Since it's unusual , the color etc. I would go with a Rose gold filigree-ish setting, set the center stone higher off the finger and a nice gallery. I think that would be so pretty....

CherryBlossom, you might consider just a plain ol' top brown too. I got a GOG AVC that's graded S/T light brown, and in many lights it has a pinky-peachy aspect to it. Yes, it's primarily brown- but I definitely see some pink in it in most lighting too.

I set it in a RG bezel bracelet with a RG chain- and oddly, it actually washed the color out a bit. It really needs some white side stones, or at very least some white metal to contrast with. I've got a few pics I took, though, so I'll post a few. Anyway- it was a great way to spend very little for a really neat colored diamond, and it's definitely a color most would describe as champagne.

I've definitely seen some top browns that are just brown, no pink... but a number of them either have a bit of pink to them, or have the illusion of it, especially when set right IMO.

(In the pics, it's show with my M colored e-ring.)

Re: I have fallen in love w/ a pink/brown diamond. make it s

I admit I haven't looked at all the links yet here so I am not commenting on one stone. I will go back.

I did read LGK's post and I think you should check out that range of color too ("top browns") I believe it was David from Diamonds by Lauren who had an "L" light brown that looked pink. They can have lovely peachy pinky tones too. That is if you are looking for a pinkish diamond for less money like I thought you might. I would also add Diamonds by Lauren to the list Kenny had. I know he doesn't like them, but many people here do and they are a sponsor.

One thing I suggest for colored diamonds is to ask vendors for many photos in *all* lighting. Colored diamonds more than anything can look totally different depending on the lighting. While color boxes are okay, they aren't accurate of what a color will look like IRL IMO. At least not most of the time from what I can say. Vidoes are better too if you can get them.

You Hoo! Knock Knock! Cherryblossom? Are you there?
Every morning I check new listings (for myself) but when i saw this one I thought of you since it seems to fit the description of what you like.

On the left is the Fancy Brownish Orangy Pink 1.43 ct., VVS1, for $38,275 that you loved and started this thread with.
On the right is a brand new listing, 1.52 ct., VS2 for $21,280.
GIA graded it Fancy Pink Brown.

Believe it or not GIA sees brown as the dominant hue here.
IMHO, this new listing is a quintessential example of using GIA's brown hues to score a HUGE value.
It's larger and almost half the price of the one on the left.

I would have posted this example even if you were not looking for such a stone.
It is very illustrative of how brown gets a bad rap, but apparently it takes only a tiny hint of brown (on the border of undetectable, to me in these pics) to bring the price of pinks down from the stratosphere.

I don't know about you but to my eyes I see way more pink than brown in the right stone.
I actually like the color and the shape better than the Fancy Brownish Orangy Pink to the left.
Cut-wise, I prefer to not have such a noticeable X under the table, as in the diamond on the left.
My new radiator-fluid-Green Yellow has that X, and I wish it didn't. Just personal preference.

Wow, kenny - they look *exactly* the same colour on my monitor. Not a whit of difference between the two!

How - utterly bizarre!

Exactly!
Gotta love what brown does to pink prices.
And often I do not mind, can't detect, or even prefer what it does to the color.

We often hear people complain that the color differences between the grades of white diamonds is so tiny for the huge price difference.
Well . . . Brown in Pinks is an example of using GIA's hyper color sensitivity to your wallet's benefit.

Of course no FCD pics are as valuable as seeing them in person.
I will say this, after buying a dozen FCDs from this vendor, I'm satisfied they strive for honest pics and don't try any funny business with their photography.

I like the color of the radiant better actually. I see a difference and I would be drawn to that one....

except the cut looks pretty bad. I looked at the symmetry and sure enough "Fair"

I wouldn't be shocked if that has something to do with the price too. But obviously not all of it as brown is among the cheapest colors out there. It should help bring the price down. My thoughts on colors is that you need to look at every single one out there. No two are the same even if graded the same. I know that sounds obvious to me, but I just mean that you should check out all kinds of brownish diamonds as well. Quite a few have great pinkish hues especially in the lighter shades.

I agree.
Look at the stones and ignore what the color is called.
Buy what you like, not what GIA and the market tells you is more valuable.
There are many top-price colors that do not appeal to me and some low-priced colors I want to acquire.

That is so true!!! I find in yellows I like the strong W-X through Fancy Light Yellow Ranges. They are dirt cheap compared to Fancy Intense. Now I appreciate the color, but I don't want it myself.

I am looking to maybe buy a coppery brown/auburn color. I started looking at the Brown-Orange, but found I actually like some Yellow-Brown (and near) colors better. Just happen to be cheaper too. Quite a lot of these colors (or near) have a lot of orange undertones as well which I love.

So get what you love, now what someone rates as "better" because of the price.

Not as pink as what you are looking at but this thread is the one I was thinking of when I said that light browns can look pink (scroll down)

I looked at a bunch of sites and only found one like I was thinking of for the next step up.

I didn't see any other pinkish browns listed (but I skimmed a bunch of sites) just to show that if you want a pinkish color you might put brown into your search. I would also talk to vendors to see what they can find. I always suggest that because you never know what they can find :)

2 more cents: Perry at Leon Mege can also source FCD's. And you don't have to get a setting from them to use him. Just for the hell of it, you could email him the Leibish link for the color, and ideas about different shapes and sizes and price range, and see if he can come up with any possibilities. And he's super nice.
