Very disappointed.
this is a whiteflash GIA or AGS stone?

AGS. Has this happened to you before?

Was it appraised mounted? I really don't think an AGS stone would be off like that. Maybe it's a warmer I that somebody could call a J, but no way a K.

BTW, I had the same diamond appraised twice, both times mounted (once in plat and once in yg). First appraisal said it was J-K. Second appraisal said it was G-H. So all I know is that I have a diamond that is either G, H, I, J, or K color.

I'd go with the AGS cert and not the appraisal, or maybe next time ask the appraiser to verify the cert. I bet if you'd done that, you would have magically gotten an I grade.

Can you say more about the circumstances?

a) who the appraiser was
b) did the appraiser see the stone mounted or unmounted
c) were they told later it was an I, and if so, how did they respond?

It was this one, right?

It''s a big stone. Bigger ones carry their color, if that''s the way to say it, more than smaller stones.

Whether or not it may be the case your appraiser has less experience with larger stones, regardless, if one had to bet on which eval was more definitive...your appraiser or the cert...I''d probably go with the cert.

BTW, I realize you tag your disappointment to the appraiser...but how do you like it?

a) David Wolf (He's in the Diamond District and must see some big stones; he was looking at a 4 carat this morning too).
b) Unmounted.
c) Surprised that the discrepancy was so big.

I like the stone, but the lawyer in me expects a fair price.

Harriet, I''m sorry to hear...

Question, does it LOOK that tinged?? I''m just thinking, a K that large should show it..

I totally understand your disappointment and lawyerly instincts! We just bought what we were told was an I color stone, and now they''re telling me K or L, it didn''t look yellow until I saw it next to a D! I''m in my second year of law school and once that switch is turned on it''s hard just to be a happy bride to be :)

What was it supposed to be?? I knew you were looking for a large stone but am forgetting the details now.

figured thats who it was....

have one of the PS appraisers check it, wf will work with you on extended return period if needed.

ScubaStog, dust off the contracts hornbooks :)

I don't know. It's tinged in my mind now though.

The appraiser is a PS appraiser.

you could tell it was david wolff based on the 2 grade difference?!!

I have a J that I suspect is a very LOW J but the clarity is better than VS2 I think - I seriously think they went okay its borderline here AND there so we''ll give it lower clarity and higher color LOL

Katie at WF is being fair and helpful (though I will never deal with one of her colleagues again).

Who else stocks hearts and arrows?

yes it sounded familar.
not going to comment more incase he is lawyer happy.

Harriet,

That muffled sound you hear in the background is people breaking things in Houston as they read this thread. An opinion from an appraiser does not make your stone any better or worse than it was before they examined it.

Did you discuss the discrepancy with Mr. Wolff? What did he have to say?

what method was used to determine the color?

You're talking to a lawyer here.

I''d get a second opinion then....

He said he looked a it (spelling corrected) in all kinds of light, and just couldn't give it even a J.

The stone is going to David Atlas in Philly tomorrow.

yes, second opinion! that''s just plain odd.

Glad to hear it.

Richard and Marty have the spectral2000 system that will leave little question about the color.
Richard is my favorite and id use him even if he didnt have it.

Dave, Niel, Nancy, rockdoc and Dave Atlas would all do good by you as would a few others..
PS handle modified brilliant is another (Jeff i think).
excuse my typing bad arm day and ium struggling.

Does anyone know anything about David Atlas? WF picked him, so I''m not sure if there''s a confilict of interest.
