Does this drive anyone bonkers?! It''s I couldn''t care less. By saying you could care less, you''re conveying the exact opposite of what you want to convey.
Do you personally have any grammar errors that drive you nuts? I also cringe at ''your'' when someone means you''re.

Yeah, it is amazing how often people say this.

I think some people who know it is wrong still say it this way because it rolls off the tongue more easily than the correct way.

Glad someone finally pointed that out.

Heh. Yes it bugs me. But to point it out *during* the context of another thread would be unkind. And considered low on the arguing tactics playlist. Darn it.

I understand that it rolls off the tongue, but does not make any sense. Is that it that much harder to add "dnt"? 1 syllable!

There have been many threads on this.

I hope that my occasional lack of good grammer doesn''t offend anyone. Mind you, I think my sentence structure is the most annoying thing about my posts

I don''t sweat the small stuff

HA! You beat me to it, Tacori!

The use of "your" instead of "you''re" bothers me more. However, I once read somewhere that if you know what someone is TRYING to say, you don''t correct them. I totally agree! I always just let it go when I know what someone is trying to say.

THANK YOU.

Yes, this particular one bothers me, try as I might to not let it.

''off of''

''i got off of the sofa.''

''i got off of the highway.''

''he took 20% off of the final price.''

sends me absolutely nuts. off. just off. not off of. not ever.

"Finest quality", s/b highest quality.

Irregardless.

Anyways.

When "Definitely" is misspelled. De-FINITE-ly.

When people say "Congrads!" Really? Congrads? As in, congradulations? *facepalm*

My boyfriend always uses this in a joking manner because he knows I hate it. It only bothers me because he does it so often that I''m afraid he''ll start to use it in a not joking way and then I''d have to kill him.

I am completely guilty of this... and now I am left wondering - what does "of" mean? Belonging to?

I hate 'I could care less.' Ugh!

Also, something like 'I use to smoke.' It's usED to.

For all intensive purposes.

This one also bugs me - people always say "Oh it was over $20" but really it''s "it was more than". If you have an indicative amount, then it''s more than or less than. If it''s generalized, you can use over/under. But over/under is more appropriate for space relationships - "I went over the hill".

This kind of stuff INFURIATES ME!

So yes, in fact I could care less.

YES!!!

YES YES YES YES YES YES...... YES. It drives me nuts.

"Lay" in place of "lie"

I have FI and his family spontaneously correcting themselves around me on this one!

"your" instead of "you're".
"it's" rather than "its".

The thing about all of these things is that they are used more and more in everyday language and then they become more and more linguistically acceptable- I mean our speech now has changed since the 1920''s and I''m sure people in the 1930''s were grumbling about something in the language that people were misusing. I just learned this in my sociolinguistic class.

That being said- I can''t stand when people use "abbrevs" such as "probs" instead of probably and "tots" instead of totally. Apparently in MI, it''s common to use anymore in a positive sentence now which sounds totally wrong to me. For example- I work out on Fridays anymore. grrrrr

I also wish people knew how to spell separate

my husband has one he does that drives me nuts and I really hate when I am standing next to him and watching it like a train wreck. I''ll post an imaginary example:

We were walking to the train station and he says, "blah blah blah". (It should be SAID blah blah blah - at least to MY ear. But that''s not the worst of it.
While walking back from the train I says, "yadda yadda yadda". (I says? good lord!)

lol @ "I says."

Is he Italian?
2.gif

My uncle says "Dem guys" instead of those guys.

It bothers me when people say irrevelant instead of IRRELEVANT. You wouldn''t believe how many people I hear mispronounce that word.

Big ditto from me - I hear it all the time too!

That doesn''t "jive" for jibe.

Due to the prevailing functional illiteracy of more recent generations, I''ve been forced to lower my expectations - substantially. At this point I''m content that they are at least attempting to communicate in English.

No, he''s not italian - and he denies he does it when I''ve talked to him about it lol

My mom would get on my case as a kid - said her mom got on her case - now I get on the case of my children - over the use of the words "those ones" or "these ones". She would say, "unless you''re counting dollar bills it''s THIS ONE or THOSE."

Eh, i dunno.
I could really care less if people speak rightly.
It don't really matter if your talking correct, as long as people get you.
Irregardless, it ain't none of my bidness how people talk, that's a personnel choice.
Accept, if I would of known people were so prim, I'da left this site a long time ago.
Anyway, this website is the best sight of all times.
Its getting late, so Ima go too sleep now.
Its all good, people. Chillax.
