gorgeous stone! I eyed that one too!

Thank you, MC, jet2ks, jstarfireb, joelly, Tuckins1, & zavy! I hope I didn''t break anyone''s heart when I bought this.

I kept my .71 J I1. It was a great deal, and I couldn''t bear to part with it. Someday I might trade it up for an H or higher I1 of the same size with very very VERY strong blue fluorescence, if one ever comes along. I would love a diamond that lights up lavender blue in the sun.

The S has strong blue fluorescence too--stronger than the J, which looks more like medium to me, although it''s supposed to be strong--but I don''t really see any effect from the fluorescence in the S in daylight. I guess the yellow overpowers it.

Upgradeable, I''ve been looking at some of Sally''s settings. That one isn''t quite to my taste, but I do like her work. But at the moment I''m leaning toward something more bold, less delicate. I might change my mind about that, of course.

Joelly, the James Meyer bezel setting is so gorgeous! I was seriously thinking of resetting my OEC in it, partly to protect the girdle & partly just because I love it. If I did that, I could use the setting my OEC is in currently for the S. But I need to let my bank account refill for a long, long tiime before I spend that much on a setting. This diamond depleted my jewelry fund for the foreseeable future.

I''m really attracted to the idea of setting a diamond in sterling. Part of the appeal is that I don''t want anyone to think I''m trying to pass this diamond off as more valuable than it is. I would rather people looked at my hand and thought "what a strange, attractive, casual silver ring, I wonder what that sparkly yellow stone is?" than "wow, that woman settled for a horribly yellow diamond just so she could get a bigger size." Not that it matters THAT much to me what people think, but still.

Here''s another etsy find. I''m just cruising through looking at beauties, and thought I''d just share.

Interesting! One of my goals is to own a "blue-white" as well (I know jewelers aren''t allowed to use that term, but I''m a layperson, and it fits so well). The one I had my eye on at GOG just sold, unfortunately!

Beautiful diamond, glitterata! Finally you got an I1 where you can see the inclusions.

Love the color of that S.

Thank you, Flygirl! Yes, I know I''m strange, but I really wanted to see my inclusions without a loupe & now I can (sometimes).

Keep ''em coming, Upgr!

I wonder whether I can find a simpler version of that wonderful James Meyer bezel in silver? Of course, what really makes his is the craftsmanship. But maybe someone could do something for me with some of the basic elements: the split shanks holding a bezel above a band.

Someone posted this in the Etsy thread, looks a lot like JM and it''s sterling!

Not that it matters THAT much to me what people think, but still.

I love this idea -- just like the lower colors of many OEC''s are enhanced by the romantic/nostalgic styling of vintage settings, these lower color RBs may find great homes in more artsy, off-beat settings. I think you''re on to something here, Glitterata!

Aha! Clearly I have to go read that Etsy thread more thoroughly! Someone else has had the same idea I had, of getting a silversmith to make a JM -like bezel setting. I think I would probably simplify it even more so I don''t feel like I''m stealing someone''s design. Maybe eliminate the wraps on the side and make the split shank less curly where it meets the bezel. But I would keep the general outline. At the moment, this is my top choice for a mounting.

Here''s what Paul had to say about my diamond:

"On the history of your stone, here it goes:

"The rough stone was part of a parcel of 19 stones, with a total weight of 61.43Cts. The origin of the rough was a mixture of Angolan and South-African.

"Weight of the rough stone was 3.67 Ct.

"When we bought it, we foresaw the stone to finish 1.42Ct with a clarity of SI1. Colour was very hard to assess, and we just noted that it would be below M.

"While in process, we thought for some time, that we might get to the 1.50-mark, but eventually had to settle for 1.45Ct.

"On a side-note, this stone had a somewhat irregular shape, which could not be sawn efficiently. So, the rough stone yielded only one polished stone, in this case.

"We could not avoid the main inclusion to be located in the pavilion near the culet, which results in it being reflected multiple times.

"Still, we expected AGS to grade the stone SI2. Colour-wise, we graded it Q before sending it to AGS, but with little experience in this colour-range, this was more guesswork than anything else.

"Finally, AGS graded the colour S, and the clarity rather harshly as I1.

"It is a memorable stone, since it is the lowest colour-grade that Infinity has cut to date, and we think that the result is spectacular. This combined with a harsh I1-grade and a very rare weight of 1.45, it is a rather safe bet that it will take years before we produce a stone close to these specs again.

"Also funny was when I asked Wink whether he wanted to receive our new S I1, that just came back from AGS. He reacted, fine, an SI1, but what colour is it? It took him about three minutes to realize that S was the colour and I1 the clarity. But he did not hesitate for a second to have it sent over.

"I guess this is all that I can say. I trust that you will enjoy your diamond. It has a truly exceptional combination of the 4 CÕs.

"Let me give you one final remark. While wearing it, this diamond will from time to time surprise you. This will be due to you entering into a new lighting-environment, in which the stone can show you another undiscovered facet of its cut-quality. At that point in time, you will love the diamond even more, and it will also serve as a reminder of the reason why you got the stone. Do remember us also at that point in time, because it is our hard work that you are wearing on your finger. And enjoy."

Glitterata, I know your love for pieces with a story, AND WHAT A STORY!!!

How incredibly cool to have the history of the stone from rough to cut and through the eyes of the artist and craftsman who brought it to life! What a magnificent backstory to a beautiful stone!! You are a lucky gal!!!

I know, it''s so NOT anonymous, right?

I wish I knew about the miner who found the stone. I hope he''s working in decent conditions. I hope enough of my money went to him and his family.

This last comment to you from Paul is why I bought an Infinity -- the craftsmanship and the pride that Crafted by Infinity put into every stone. Love it. Can I just say again, Glitterata, you are a lucky lady, and that stone will look incredible in the Etsy setting. And I can''t wait for your reports (and photos) about how the stone surprises you!!!

Excellent! I can''t wait to see your little bit of sunshine on your hand! It''s a fabulous stone!

How very cool & fun. A golden straw color. Lovely. I too, don't mind/like an inclusion or two that you can see.

Wonderful that you know a bit about its history. Neat.

"S" stands for spectacular.

The stone in my avitar is a "P".

Thank you. The more I look at this little bit of sunshine, the more I love its bright, fiery, golden face.

It''s funny--I very much prefer the color of my F to that of my L. But I don''t prefer the color of the F to that of this S. I like the F and S colors both equally.

If someone offered to give me either this S or a D IF with the same cut (assuming I weren''t allowed to sell the D IF and spend the money on this stone AND an E SI2 and a lot of books), I would turn down the D IF and take this S instead.

kewl congrates!!!!

Glitterata,

Congrats on your new S, I1 1.45 STUNNER! I love the straw color, and it sure does sparkle like crazy! The story about your stone is even more impressive. Can''t wait to see how you have it set, please please post lots of pics when you do!

Thank you, Storm & Beechezz!

I''ve contacted Julia Taylor, the Etsy seller whose sketch Upgradable posted above, about making me a sterling bezel setting inspired by James Meyer''s, but simpler. She says she''s a little backed up with other projects, so it might be a while, though.

What a beautiful diamond... i looooooooooove warmer stones, they catch different lights and are cameleons!!! Just gorgeous!

I have my W to X colored pear set into a yellow gold shield, it really enhance the color, perhaps a setting like that?
or maybe into a tension setting, in which the light can hit in in every angle... Especially when the stone is seen from the side, you could see it's pretty color :)

I think its a great example of a lower color/warmer stone that is beautiful in its own right!!!

Cut, indeed, is king.

Congratulations on a beautiful addition to your collection!

Gorgeous, gorgeous diamond!! Congratulations. I love warm stones.

I think setting it in YG will really bring out the yellow. When my J/K pear was set in WG, it was neither yellow or white. But when it was set in a YG yellow diamond bezel, the yellow really popped.

I love that story from Paul. Thanks for sharing glitterata.

What an amazing diamond. I just love that Crafted by Infinity cuts those lower colors. Wonderful!!!

I wish there were more lower colored princess cuts. One of those is on my wish list.

Looking forward to seeing how you set it. You can always put it into a Stuller pendant setting so you can wear it while your jewelry fund replenishes.

omg I love it!! I want one! ahhh!! gorgeous... I am so jealous :)

Glitterata I just had a ring done by Julia and found her great to work with. I can''t wait to see what she comes up with for you.

BTW, ou didn''t break my heart, you made ME happy. Because I know it''s loved, and I''ve been clicking on it for at least once a week hoping that it will go to someone who will give it a great home. What a great story your diamond has, too. I can''t wait to see it set, whenever that is. Because I am sure it is going to look amazing.

I''m completely envious! I only have a P or Q, and much smaller. Your''s is GORGEOUS!!!

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Gypsy, have you posted pictures of your Julia ring?

Wowsers! I will be watching how you set this Glitterata! It''s lovely!
