I’d love some feedback on these two diamonds - a preference or prefer neither?

I can see statistically they’re quite similar - a difference in clarity but both should be ok. Do you note any concerns from their visuals, or a colour that may be too far from ideal on a rose gold or gold band? I found in this carat size, to upgrade a single colour was met with a price jump and a significant clarity downgrade. Worth considering?

Option 1

Option 2

2 might be a touch deep - you'd need to run it through the HCA tool to check the score. If it is a decent score, though (<2.5ish) then it could be very fiery with that 36 degree angle crown.

1 - IF clarity is total overkill, anything VVS will be totally 'eye-clean' and VS1 should also be eye-clean (but would need checking for complete peace of mind). Angles look like they will give a good HCA score and therefore good light performance.

GIA diamonds DO NOT get a grade of Ideal. Their top grade is Excellent. The I-IF is a bit better cut with a less steep, more acceptable, crown angle. Truthfully, they are both very nice diamonds. The price differential seems reasonable making the IF stone better for the money possibly. I don't know the vendor "with clarity.com" so you need to assure yourself that everything you want with your purchase is clearly understood. Maybe someone with previous experience with this vendor would like to comment on how they were treated.

Thanks for the reply! I searched for a similar carat weight while upgrading colour and reducing clarity grade (because I figured money could be spent better elsewhere), but at an H colour and a much reduced clarity grade, options were coming in at about $600 more. Seemed like I’d take the extra clarity because it came with value. HCA are 0.7/1.7 respectively.

That very fact did cross my mind - I figured the small price upgrade seemed worth the value, but many databases didn’t even recognize With Clarity. I guess they used to be called For Mine if that helps?

Can you ask BN and With Clarity if you can get aset or idealscope images? Probably cant get them but worth a try. Post them if you can.

1.21 is gone already.

That stone doesn’t look like an upgrade to me. Clarity looks awful, and a major downgrade to pay more money only for 1 letter grade up. And it’s 0.2 ct smaller

Okay :roll2:

How does clarity look awful? I would want images ( of course), but don't get scared off by the VS2 clarity. I think she was trying to be helpful by showing you options that are a higher color than I in case that was desirable).

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound rude to someone being helpful. I looked at the GIA certificate and it looks as though a child ran wild with a marker. I’m not an expert, but an increase in price, for how much of a downgrade the clarity appears, definitely does not seem worth one colour grade when compared to others. And that’s along with downsizing 20% in ct size.

VS2 are almost always eye clean despite the fact that some of the clarity plots look intimidating. I would personally prefer a bigger I color vs a smaller H color, but not everyone agrees with that. Just worth considering options.

I’m a man lol, but thank you for coming to my defense @lovedogs.
OP, your response did feel rude considering I spent the first twenty minutes of my coffee time this morning trying to find you a better diamond ;)2.

I was actually focused on finding something that falls into the super ideal specs because good cut quality improves the color, appearance of size and light performance of any diamond. So in that regard finding the best proportioned diamond should be first on the list of priorities IMHO. Option 1 technically stays within the Pricescope recommended parameters but both crown and pavillion are on the shallow end. A 35 degree CA would pair better with that 40.6 PA. Option 2 looks better to me, but the crown angle exceeds the recommended 35 degrees so you would need to ask for advanced images to be sure that steeper crown angle does not cause any problems. Also, I think IF and VVS grades are unnecessary and I thought you could go up in color or size by relaxing that parameter. I was headed out to go on a fishing trip at 6 am this morning so the fact that the stone I found was smaller eluded me. However, I would still choose it over yours because of it’s sweeter proportions and the fact that it’s an H. I personally have just sold an I colored diamond at a significant loss because the tint bothered me.

You’re completely right - I’m grateful for the help. From a cut perspective, a few resources I used all rated this one very well. I am concerned the colour might not be white enough - I’m hoping selecting a high graded cut will help that, and ultimately I will return it if I find it’s not. I don’t know diamonds well - but every video I watched of a diamond in its setting I could hardly tell unless the I was compared to a D or E. To me (and I could be wrong) the G,H,I all looked very similar in settings. I’ve had a number of people think that it shouldn’t have any BGM, so I’m hopeful. Compared to others, even with the VVS2 which may be unnecessary, and given its good cut scores I thought it seemed to be good value.

It’s an expensive learning curve. That’s why a good upgrade policy gets talked about a lot here on P.S. What we think is important and/or tolerable can change pretty quickly. Seeing color will totally depend on the setting. It’s usually the wearer that sees it because they are viewing the diamond from the side almost all the time. A setting that exposes the pavillion will increase the chances of seeing it.
