How would you know if your diamond was a special "cut"?

Does a diamond certificate show that the diamond is a proprietary cut diamonds such as ACA, Hearts and Arrows, etc. How would you know if the cut is a "branded" one?

I''m not really sure, but I think sometimes a cert will say that the diamond has a brand name inscribed on the girdle of the stone, but I don''t know if that is really trustworthy (as someone could just inscribe that on the diamond?)?
