All,

I have posted a couple of similar threads, but this one is going to very specific.

I am looking to set a POH in rose gold halo.

But here's the catch: it can't look round OR square, as GF does not like rounds or princesses.

Second question: here's the diamond - any opinions on it based on the images and aset etc?
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9388/

I know bezel is an option to outline the shape. What other options do I have? Any ideas?

Kite-set it. IOW, orient it like the photo shows it.

The stone is excellent. As I told you yesterday, the only downside is that these stones face up smaller for their weight that some other shapes. I would recommend a Beverley K halo because they will make a ring in rose gold and GOG carries BK. I thinkGabriel and Co. may do rose gold, but you'd have to ask to be sure. Has your gf indicated that she wants rose gold for a wedding set? (Sorry but I would not like it kite set at all!)

Just to clarify...BK makes octagonal halos. If you don't think she would like that, I'd advise you to go with an August Vintage cushion since she doesn't like round or square stones.

Thank you. Yes she specifically wants rose gold- that much I do know. I'll look into the octogonal halos.

AVC is still in the running but I want to see what me options are with a POH

Interesting. I didn't know that was a thing. Yesterday I was googling stuff like "Diamond Set Sideways" and "Diamond Set Tilted". I didn't know the term kite set.

If she doesn't like rounds or squares, why are you getting her what will essentially look like a square when set? Does she like octagonal stones (POH, square radiant, emerald, asscher)? Or is she trying to hint that she wants an oval, pear, heart...?

Two shapes she has specifically stated she likes are cushions and asschers. So she is not against octagonal. She's anti round and princess because of how common they are - that's all. She wants something nobody else (that she knows) has.

How does BK stack up for price vs Gabriel? I'm not looking to drop more than $1500 on a setting.

BK is going to be more expensive than Gabriel and Co I'm fairly certain. And yes Gabriel and Co comes in rose gold-but I'm not sure how good they are at customizing. BK is very good at accommodating changes made to their setting (for example-bezel setting it vs prong setting it/etc) but GOG has both-so you can't go wrong.

I worry about this stone looking exactly like a princess once it's set.

I would do a cushion or an asscher just to be safe.

I keep telling him that.

THIS is what you should do: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-here-art-deco-bev-k-ring-princess-of-hearts-from-gog.175328/ But in Rose Gold. It should run you about 1500-1700. It's the ONLY way it won't look square or round.

The problem is - somebody snagged the only AVC that fit my criteria within hours of me posting it on here. I would rather an AVC than a regular Cushion. I do have an R I am going to look at, but I'm not 100% sold on it - the J would have been perfect, but now it's not an option.

You need to listen to her then and go to the August Vintage Cushions. She is not going to like a PoH very much since it is a rb and princess combined with cut corners!!! Few people in the world have AVC's or even other cushions that well cut. I think you are making a mistake to even consider anything other than cushions or asschers. I love asschers but they also face up really small.

Why don't you wait for an AVC? I know that you are already talking with Jonathan at GOG, so just let him know all your specs, including price, and he will make one for you. It will take longer, but you will be happy forever

THIS. You waited a lifetime for the right lady. Wait a few months for the right diamond.

The L and M cushions I looked at this weekend are back at Good Old Gold now. Either of them would be better than the R stone, in my opinion, and they would also be perfect for a rose gold halo.

I entertained that idea. Per discussion w/ GOG, they get AVC shipments every so often, and they're not sure exactly what's going to come in. I don't think I can have one custom made for me. I'm just extremely frustrated that somebody swooped in and grabbed the diamond right before I did.

So it would literally be a waiting game at this point. Just sitting around waiting to see if something came in that meets my budget / specs (i.e - the exact one I was going to buy last week)

Thank you. I will definitely be looking at them.

Like other posters have mentioned, I think you should wait. You don't want to get her something that she may not like. Yes, the POH is unique but it's a combination of the shapes that she doesn't want. What I've learned from this forum is to not compromise. Get her the best you can afford base on her preferences. I'm sorry that one was sniped but lesson learned.

I ADORE the rectangular cushion Diamond Seeker had (don't know which color that was).

If you don't want to wait, do for that one. If you think you can wait a little while call GOG again and speak to Jonathan himself (much better than speaking to his staff) and see what he says.

The L was the 1.79 squarish cushion and the more elongated one is the 1.91 M. You can't go wrong with either because they are both an excellent example of their particular shape. I sort of favor the L for a halo e-ring, but I personally would get the more rectangular oval as a second diamond ring for myself. The very slight champagne appearance of either of these would be enhanced with a rose gold halo. Beautiful combination!

Honestly, I'd have GOG looking for an oval for me, on the side.

I agree with this also. Unless someone is right on top of it to look at it, she will keep hearing princess.

I think here's where I went wrong: I reserved the POH because I saw the video and photos... From those, anybody can tell it's not a princess, but shrink the size down 10x to real life and look at it from a couple feet away, nobody would know. In retrospect I should have reserved the AVC I wanted but I made a choice based on blown up photos.

But an asscher can look like a princess too from far away... Let's just add to the drama :cheeky:

For what it's worth, I had the chance to order the 1.46 J AVC but I chose the other two because I thought they were better shaped and larger. So I don't think you missed out on the best stone.

Thank you. I need some reassurance now lol! I'm not happy about the 1.46 as you can tell.

Could Jon at GOG find you an actual antique cushion that met your requirements, if an AVC is out of the question? There are antiques out there that perform well, and Jon could be your eyes for something that would be truly unique.
