How I lost and found my 3.19 OMC and its future CvB setting

Hi Everyone! I haven't posted much but decided to share the happy story of my 3.19, J-K, VS2 OMC. This was my cherished ring that my husband had given me 12 years ago for my birthday. I'll post a few pictures of it in its original platinum teacup style setting.
Earlier this summer while babysitting my three little granddaughters, I was shocked to discover that my OMC had fallen out of the setting! We looked and looked all through the house and out in the yard ( in the summer storms!) but no diamond. Sadly, I started considering my options as far as replacing it. I reached out to Erica at LAD and talked to our insurance company. Then, miraculously, two days later I got a cute text photo of our 7 year old granddaughter holding my diamond!! ( She collects rocks and had remembered exactly where and when she had last seen the diamond on my finger!) She had taken a flashlight and run around the house searching and found it in the laundry room! We were all just so amazed and thankful! Funny aside, when I went to their house to pick it up she was running around with the loose diamond and I was just so glad the 3 year old hadn't snatched it and thrown it in the yard!!
So since this is the second time one of the prongs on the original deco setting has broken, I decided to ask Caysie at CvB to design a new setting. I have so enjoyed working with her! Her 8 prong Abby was my original inspiration. I wanted it set low like a fat little crown similar to some Victorian era settings I've seen. We looked at lots of simple Victorian and Edwardian period settings and after much communication, settled on her modified Abby, with a larger donut and low, diamond pave shoulders, platinum head and yellow gold grooved shank. I really wanted Caysie to guide the process because I absolutely love her design sense and point of view. I'll try to post CAD phot F4BF3F6D-2881-4E31-A414-2B72211DA7FC.png.1E6CE594-F1A8-4D86-AF5F-A8FFB8D42E24.jpegD78FED10-7D99-4E33-B7A8-67F0027EA11D.jpeg

Blimey, the universe was looking out for you that day!

Glad you found it and can put it into a new, safer home :)

Amazing story! Your ring should be lovely!

Wow. I can see why you chose 8 prongs to secure that baby, haha. Can't wait to see the finished ring!

I love a happy ending!!! Looking forward to final pics!

@OoohShiny Thanks, yes we were really celebrating that day!! Unbelievable!
@AprilBaby Thank you, this process of having a ring designed has been fun and I believe I'm in good hands!
@HappyNewLife Yes really!! I almost went with 10 prongs! Just couldn't believe it fell out so easily but I do wear it in the garden, gym, everywhere!! Pretty hard on it so hopefully this new setting with be tough!

Woah, I'm so glad you were able to find it! I can't wait to see the new setting.

Thanks y’all. I realized that I didn’t actually ask advice here on RockyTalky and as a newbie it’s a tad confusing! I meant to but got caught up in the story!! Here are the CADS. The prongs will be thinner than shown here. I’m thinking of setting it E/W like it was originally. Also wanted to ask opinion on whether to do polished or brushed yellow gold on the shank. The shank will have a groove. Also the actual diamond will be puffy with a nice tall crown IRL. 0F9146E2-8599-415F-A3F6-6C18D7ADF944.jpegE4E56E6D-CB01-4EB3-9AAB-D5E411A6C287.jpeg

That is an amazing story and I am so glad that your diamond was found. I am not usually a fan of east-west settings but I have large puffy fingers and want to make them look longer. I think brushed yellow gold would be really pretty.

@kindred thanks for your thoughts! I have puffy fingers too sometimes...:(2

Wow!!! I am glad you found it! If I ever lost one of my bigger stones i would probably have a heart attack. Enjoy that beauty!

That little granddaughter of yours deserves a nice fat deposit into her 529 Plan. Well done little one!! :wavey:

Now you can focus on designing the long overdue Secure setting that should give you peace of mind. Can’t wait to see the end result.

@tkyasx78 Yes!!! I was heartsick that weekend and the little granddaughters kept telling me to think happy thoughts and they prayed it would be found! So sweet.
@LLJsmom yes she sure does! I want her to have it one day! We had just been looking for arrowheads and fossils in our driveway on the day she found it! Eagle eyes!
Yes very relieved to be getting a secure setting after all of this time.. Thanks everyone!

HI:

Holy story moly! :appl: Look forward to more happy endings.

cheers--Sharon

Wow that is quite a story but glad it had a happy ending! Looks like it's new home will be beautiful and I personally would have the shank polished!

Wow, what a great story! Your original teacup setting was very unusual but your new setting will be gorgeous! I like the easy west setting but would go for the polished shank! Can't wait to see your beauty in its new home!

Even though I knew you found your diamond again, my heart literally dropped when I read the first part of your post. I can imagine the horror and anxiety of searching for a diamond that could be anywhere - in the house, in the yard, etc..-- it's every Pricescoper's nightmare!!:errrr:It is such a beautiful OMC, so glad your granddaughter found it and that it's found its way to Caysie to set. (and yes, definitely EIGHT prongs for such a big beautiful rock!):wavey:

@mochiko42 Hey girl! :wavey:Thank you, you kinda read my mind! When I first looked down at that big empty setting my heart almost fell out of my chest. But it all turned out! I’ve been inspired by a few of your beautiful rings! :kiss2:

Great happy ending and even better ending when your new CVB ring is finished. Look forward to seeing your new beautiful ring.

@Queenie60 Thank you, I'm loving being in Caysie's beautiful design world.. a nice break from the stresses of daily life. I've really enjoying seeing your incredible CvB pieces here on PS! Wow!! I decided yesterday to send my original half carat ER to her along with some smaller diamonds to put them all together in a pretty Jessica style band to wear with my OMC. I can see how folks get a tad obsessed!

Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions you must have been through! So glad you have a happy ending and can’t wait to see your stunning new ring (s)!!

@yennyfire Thank you, yes it was a strange 48 hours trying to figure out how to even find another OMC and kicking myself for not realizing how fragile those prongs were! Amazed that little granddarling used her flashlight to find it between the washer and dryer! BTW, I was just now scrolling through another thread admiring your stunning Bertie in her new engraving!

Thanks @scoutfinch! Yeah, these unicorn old cuts are nearly impossible to duplicate once lost. Finding an OMC with faceting like yours would have been a huge challenge, so I’m glad it’s not one you have to endure and know that Caysie will create an heirloom for you!

Amazing story with happy ending:kiss2:
Can't wait to see it when is done ✔

I asked mine for high polish but she made it soft brush by accident. She suggested me to see it in person how the soft brush look like and if I still want the high polish she's fix it for me. But until now I can't even decide if keep it as is or do the high polish:mrgreen2:

Soft brush I think will look nicer for your ring and with soft brush the scratch will not so obvious.

Hi @-Asscher- ! Thank you for this information about finishes. I love your ring in the soft brushed finish! Somehow I thought Caysie had several levels of brushed finish and I wanted something between polished and brushed, if that makes sense. Getting excited!
