How do the Canera and GOG precision cut OECs compare?

A recent thread brought up the issue of buying diamonds at GOG and not being able to send them to Victor Canera for setting, but there was no consensus on whether this applied to more than just AVCs.

I notice that Victor is bringing out his own ideal cut OECs. Does anyone have any thoughts on how they will compare to the beautiful AVRs?

It must be hard for people that want the best in diamonds and the best in setting, if they can't get both from the same vendor and the vendors will not cooperate...

Thoughts??

In terms of light performance both AVCs and Victor's cushions are very similar. They are both graded according the Cut, Symmetry, Light performance and Polish. I think visually Victor's are a whisker chunkier and have slightly bigger tables, but there are AVCs that are stunning that are both more chunky and less chunky as well.

I did notice the first OEC cut by Victor has a bigger table than a lot of the AVRs and is not as deep as some of them, but it is a stunning stone. AGS grades these on Symmetry and polish only for both GOG and for Victor.

I think Victor is going for stones that look like genuine Old Cuts. I know he is cheaper than GOG so far, so it depends which stones you prefer the look and price of. I know I would be happy with either cut from either vendor!!!! Both Jon and Victor are up there with top service if you ask anyone that has dealt with them. Victor has always given me 5+ star service when I have dealt with him.

Victor is also now cutting his own line of Hearts and Arrows Round brilliants as well, in terms of straight out performance these are up there with the Brian Gavin Signature lines and the best of the Crafted by Infinities!!!!

So far the AVC is the only stone Victor does not accept. The main problem right now is supply. You have to buy from whomever has the stone closest to the specs you want. And if you want a larger culet, GOG will have that done for you. I considered it but just didn't want to go to the time and trouble. Stones in real life don't show it as much as the magnified pictures do anyway, unless it is really large!

I don't really think you can compare overall cut right now because Victor only has one stone, the last I saw. GOG has two different styles of newly cut OEC's, so every stone must be individually compared. There is a wide variation in the GOG stones such as tables from the low 40's to the low 50's. I actually like both cuts, but again, it is not like there are several stones in every style, color, size, etc.
