Seriously, I think there are ALOT of people around here who have thought about it! I would agree that it MIGHT be 4ct TOTAL, but unless her ring size is a 12, that''s NOT a 4 carat center stone!Date: 10/10/2009 3:43:57 PM

Ok, ok....It is a friend''s SIL''s E-ring. My friend does not know much about diamonds, carat weight, etc. She emailed me pictures from the wedding and said that her SIL''s ring was over 4 cts. And the PSer in me got to thinking..''Well, it doesn''t appear to me 4 cts''.
I know this isn''t the most tasteful thing to do, and I would never share my ''findings'' with her. Just wondering what others thought. Forgive me.
I would agree with the others, 4cts total weight for the ring possibly but not for the centre stone itself.Date: 10/10/2009 2:56:55 PM

Gleam, my friend does not get along with her SIL and was appalled when the SIL was '..bragging at her wedding that her fiance spent 40K on her e-ring'. She mentioned to me that it was 4 cts. My friend is a diamond virgin and didn't know any better.

Ditto to what everyone else is saying... Since her fingers look rather slender, I''d say the center stone is probably at most 2 cts.
Never really understood the whole bragging about money or carat weight thing...?! To me it seems like people who do that are trying to draw negative attention to themselves and their ring... My thought is let people think on their own that it''s a 4 carat $40k ring, but don''t tell them that! This forum is the only place where it feels OK to share that kind of information. A girl I ran into the other day exclaimed ''How many carats is your diamond?!?!?'' With tons of people around us too ... Ah! I just looked at her and said ''It''s plenty.''

Wonderful response..I hope I remember that the next time I am asked..For some reason I always feel obligated to provide the details, it is entirely unnecessary.
This made me chuckle - so classy in this "old world" way that only wonderful old ladies manage. I love that answer!Date: 10/11/2009 5:54:29 PM

I can''t really take credit for it... My darling grandma - who unfortunately is no longer with us - used to say ''pa-lenty'' with her sing-song voice about things like that all the time. I decided after feeling uncomfortably forced into divulging the unnecessary details that ''pa-lenty'' is going to be my cheeky response with a wink.![]()
